I can shift into fort and second but it won't go into 3rd. I'm not sure if i need to tighten my clutch or what? Informative video.

Would need a little bit more info to try and tell you where to look. Need the year and model of the bike type of trans. Thanks for watching

Great video can you adjust the pawl shifter while the trans is in the bike? Love your videos.
@tinkeringwithharleys Жыл бұрын
Yes you can make the adjustment while it's in the bike. You have to remove the inner primary to get to it. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching.

yes, if you have a real skinny 11/16 wrench and a good Allen key it’s very tight but doable

Does the transmission usually have difficulty shifting when putting in a new pawl? I looked like it gave you some work. I ask because I replaced mine and went to test prior to torquing and buttoning up. Mine 95 Evo tranny seems to have difficulty floating through the gears. Any suggestions? FYI the eccentric screw that is on this bike isn't the right one looking at it from the inner prime. Instead of an Allen it's a 1/4" drive head. The screw goes in fine and has the offset machined point. Any advice greatly appreciated

@@ericgutierrez8028 usually when you change anything in the trans and you test it by spinning it by hand it's a little stiff. But as long as it goes through all the gears up and down it's usually fine. Remember that when the bike is running the trans spins much faster than it does by hand. The eccentric screw you have as long as it's off set at the same as the original you shouldn't have a problem as long as it's adjusted properly. Thanks for watching and ride safe

@@tinkeringwithharleys next question for you. Does the cam flower have a good amount of tension on it? I noticed on videos that the cam flower when engaged on the drum seems to be locked in pretty decently in the grove. My flower comes out of the gear grove very easily, which is leading me to believe that the spring needs to be replaced. Your thoughts?
@tinkeringwithharleysАй бұрын
@@ericgutierrez8028 I'm assuming your referring to the shift detent. The spring can weaken over time and use. They usually lock in pretty tight as you up and down shift. If you have any doubts about the tension or roller replace them while you have everything accessible. It's a pain to put everything back together than find out you have to take it apart again for a spring.

It looked like it only shifted up 3 times shouldn’t it have shifted 4 up? I’m having issues with my 5 speed not shifting into 5th
@tinkeringwithharleys3 ай бұрын
Don't remember how many times the video showed since that was made 2 years ago. Sometimes when the trans is on the bench or in the frame 5th gear is little hard to catch while your spinning the main shaft

Thank you for the video. I recently acquired a 99 Heritage and it shifts very hard. My question is, can this procedure be done while the transmission is still in the bike? Thanks again.

Glad you liked the video and thanks for the question. Yes you can do the adjustment while the trans is in the bike. It's a little tight but it can be done. Thanks for watching and ride safe.

Hello I’m having a problem with shifting I’m having to feather my shifter up or down depending on me downshifting or up shifting I switch gears and it’s not locking back in place until I feather it and catches then allows me to shift your advice would go a long ways
@tinkeringwithharleys6 ай бұрын
It could be any number of things. Start with the simple things first. Check the shifter and linage, make sure it's not binding or loose and it's adjusted correctly. This is applicable for 5 spd and 6 spd, since I don't know which you have. If everything is good with the linkage than you need to look into the trans. It could be a bad pawl shifter, bend fork or worn forks, bad pawl spring etc. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and ride safe.

@@tinkeringwithharleys I have a 5 speed 2000 touring thanks for the content i watched them about 5 times each very informative thank you Sir . Going to replace the spring and pawl both have seen there days then adjust the eccentric screw button it up adjust the clutch then go from there 👍🏼

Sounds good, if it's a 2000 5 spd there is no adjustment on the eccentric screw unless it's been upgraded. Glad you find the videos helpful. Thanks again for watching

I was replacing my pawl shifter, and when replacing the barrel roller and pillow blocks, I find that two of the 4 pillow block threads were stripped out of the case. My question is, can I tap those out to 5/16 and still have the bosses work?
@tinkeringwithharleys Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. I've never tried to re tap to a 5/16 so I can't tell you. What I've done when I've run into this is use heli coils. They work very well and never had any problem with them. Since only 2 of the 4 are stripped this work fine. If all 4 were stripped than I would re tap. This is a common problem. Since the bolts only torque to 80 inch pounds, people have tendency to over torque them and step the threads. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching

I been doing this over 20 years and love a refresher cores ,Back in the day we had books and most of the time it did not fully explain detail . Trans bearings the Counter shaft bearing is a press fit blind hole bearing . nothing in the book on how to install it . Freeze the bearing and use a Race driver and tap it home .nothing in the book about it .

Yep I agree the service manual doesn't always tell you what you need to know. So you find out from other people or by trial and error. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching.
