Great video! This got me where I needed to be. I took my snow blower apart earlier in the year to free up a pinched gas line hose. I must have hit the lever parts for the governor adjustment. I messed with these & the spring popped back into position. These parts needed to be straightened in order to do the proper RPMs. Thanks for your help. John :)

I know this is old and this is a small matter. But I have one of those tachs and have shied away from using it much because wrapping & unwrapping the cord around the spark plug wire is so tedious. Thus, you approach with the spring was a great idea. Tried it today on a lawn mower & it worked great. Thanks for that!

Thanks for a great video. I work onlots of Snow King engines. They seem to last forever. My aunt has a 38 yr old Toro that I just changed the carb on. Replaced with correct OEM carb but I think I messed up on the linkage. It's a H50-65440M Ser 01790. Revs high but dies under load. Where can I get linkage configuration on such an old machine? Throttle control lever goes directly to carb on this one.

TOM D if older than 1980, could be bad points or ignition timing. Both have big impact on small engines.

most tecumseh big block engines(8-10hp) i have seen are set at 3600rpm's and also notes when the rpm's are not set high enough the unit will not blow the snow as good. husky snowblower

For what it's worth, This is what I read. The RPM on any small engine with a non-adjustable/fixed high speed main jet carburetor (EPA regulations) should be set at 3,200 & not at 3,600. At 3,600, the carburetor will lean out too much & this could cause the engine run too hot, resulting in excessive piston ring wear & eventually it will start smoking out the exhaust, burning oil. Wintertime when the cold air is denser is even worse for a leaned-out engine. I know this for a fact. The older small engines with a fully adjustable high speed main jet can be safely set at 3,600 RPM. And the horsepower rating for all small engines is figured at 3,600, and not at 3,200. (8hp @ 3,600 RPM = 7.1hp @ 3,200 RPM)

Can you tell me the setting you used on the tach. Just got one trying to set my 7 HP The only setting that was close was setting 1 (spark fire twice per rev) does that sound right to you. Also 3000RPM sounded way too fast but the unit is not blowing far. Appreciate the HELP! Mike

Mike Shelly My tach. does not have any adjustments. The top end rpm for this engine is 3400. If it is sounding fast it probably is.
