Very helpful tips! Im a school psych intern, and I made the mistake of stumbling on administering the Wisc.I. I gave it before in practicum, and I thought I could give it confidently again, but yeah, lol 😅. These tips are super helpful.

I definitely agree with your recommendations! I've enjoyed watching your videos the last couple years. We're actually on the same grad school timeline. I start internship in Houston, TX on August 10th and I am super excited. Wishing you nothing but the best for your internship year!

Hi Sarah! Thanks so much for tuning in. Good luck in internship! Will it be in person? My training will begin at the end of July and I'm nervous but super excited.

Tiffany Lee That is exciting! You’ll do great! My internship should be in person and virtual. They’re still trying to figure things out but I think that’s everywhere rn lol.

Great tips. I would advise differentiating between an "assessment" and a "test"...meaning that assessment is the entire data collection process and test is just the quantitative data. A comprehensive assessment requires both quantitative AND qualitative data; just like research, using both types of data is best!
@TiffanyLee3 жыл бұрын
Hey Brian! In my district, we use the term "evaluation" for the entire data collection process and use assessment and test interchangeably. I wholeheartedly agree that we need to use both qualitative and quantitative data for the evaluation process. Thanks for watching!!

I am currently a second year doctoral student in my 5 year clinical psychology program! I just started my diagnostic/assessment practicum today and I am at a therapeutic day school! I am sooo excited but so freaking nervous. Thank you for your tips! Do you have any suggestions for how to get the students to be more engaged when they don't want to participate? (:
@TiffanyLee4 жыл бұрын
I would love to hear about your clinical program!! for younger students, i offer them frequent brain breaks so they can focus better or motivate them with stickers. I have huge packs of cool stickers from the dollar store and offer them a piece of paper to collect them. older students usually enjoy the tests or just want to get it over with (they're self motivated) so i don't really offer anything other than breaks. hope this helps and GOOD LUCK! :D

Hi! I am an undergraduate psych student who is really interested in becoming a school psychologist. I really appreciate your videos and channel! I was wondering if you could make a video about characteristics and traits needed to be a successful school psychologist. I know you touched on this in your reasons to be a school psych video, but any insight into whether my personality is a good fit is appreciated. Thank you! :)

is there a lot of statistics involved to interpret the data? How was work while being under quarantine?
@TiffanyLee4 жыл бұрын
Hi Naomi! I wouldn't say A LOT but you definitely need to know the basics to understand and report scores. I took one stats class and one research methods class in my grad program. With distance learning, there's been a lot of virtual meetings and social/emotional learning. It's been difficult to test but I think some districts are reopening and testing with safety precautions. It's a crazy time

Great video, Which assessment would you say are best administered on the computer?
@TiffanyLee4 жыл бұрын
That's a tough one!! I don't think any of the cognitive assessments are really normed for the virtual setting but I think Q Interactive gives you an option to use electronics. You'll have to be somewhat close to the child since it uses bluetooth to link the two devices but at least you won't have to sit right next to them. QI has a lot of assessments like the WISC, KTEA, CVLT, etc. There are also a few computerized attention tests like the CPT and TOVA but they will have to take it on your device. Other than that, you'll probably have to do rating scales and interviews. If you come across any, please let me know!

@TiffanyLee2 жыл бұрын
are you asking about the KTEA? I use the scoring manual specifically for WE to help guide me. I don't have a video but I can consider making one in the future!

i'm so sorry this has been your experience. i think the education system and even our grad training is very ableist, probably due to the lack of representation of and consideration for the disabled community. i believe there is a slow shift in our training, though, so i am hopeful for change in the future. i would love to discuss further if you want to reach out on instagram!

A question I have that I forgot to ask yesterday is with statistics do you have to do it all from scratch or is there a computer program that can help? My adolescent psychology prof was a retired school psychologist and she said it depends where you work?
@TiffanyLee4 жыл бұрын
for research stats, many people use a program called SPSS. when you're practicing in schools, I've seen psychs score everything by hand and input raw scores into a program and also seen them use something called the xbass which is a computer program that helps you compute patterns of strengths and weaknesses. it really does depend on where you work!

How do you manage to keep young children focused for several hours during the test? Are there breaks?
@TiffanyLee4 жыл бұрын
That's a great question!! With really young children, I start by building rapport and offering little reinforcers to motivate them. I usually have a huge book of stickers with me (dollar store FTW) and tell them that they can earn one sticker for each task that they complete. They love collecting them throughout the test! I find that children over 4th grade are typically self motivated. I also offer 1-2 breaks to draw/hangout or visit their parent (if i'm in the clinic).

Do you have any recommendations for scoring assessments?
@TiffanyLee3 жыл бұрын
Double check all your numbers and have a friend or supervisor check periodically to make sure everything adds up! I rely on my manual heavily when I learn new assessments because each one has different rules and quirks when it comes to scoring. I've been loving iPad assessments because there's way less room for scoring error
