Where do you aim the club face with the closed setup, at the target or in line with your stance
@golpher12 Жыл бұрын
Finally someone who swings like me. Other golfers cannot believe how far I aim to the right but I very consistently hit my target. I don't play a big hook either. Alot of my shots are dead straight or a slight draw. I am a 1 handicap. I hardly ever miss a fairway and usually hit between 15 and 18 greens yet other golfers keep trying to correct my alignment. Lol. I cannot swing with an open stance or even a square stance. I also think alignment sticks are a complete waste of time. All I have to do is look over my left shoulder to see and align to my target. I use the same phrase as you. You can't aim your gun if your gun isn't firing. Great video!

I have been experimenting with Jim's method for the past 4 months and it has improved my golf game greatly. It has improved my ball striking and consistency. As a result, my handicap has dropped 3 points to date. Even though I am a C-grader, I am getting closer to becoming a B-grader - that would be my target for the next few months. As I am 70 years old and my driver distance is only around 200 meters (total carry + run), it would be quite difficult to become any better than a 18-handicapper. One very important thing that I have done also is to re-watch Jim's videos to re-learn and reduce the possibility of picking up bad habits. Thank you Jim

I guess my biggest question is, where is the club face pointing? Would it be closed to my shoulder line or square to my shoulder line, (pointing right of my actual target line in anticipation of a draw)?
@gensyed2 жыл бұрын
Right and in line with the shoulder in anticipaton of a draw. II have tried this, and it is like a miracle I suddenly can hit consistent draws like the pros. I don't have to worry about my tendency to do ' outside in'. The setup corrects my outside in by shifting the arc towards the ball away from me and closes the club in the process while still coming from inside out. The ball will shoot off slightly left of your shoiulder line, right of target slightly and draw to your intended landing zone. Amazing.! If your ball goes straight right , it means your grip is a weaker grip. Optimal grip position that suits you has to be comsidered. The only thing that I did not do like Jim is having different alignment between shoulders and feet. I just aim right of target about 30 to 40 degrees from target and swing away. No thinking, or manipulating the club. It really worked! Thank you Mr Venetos.

So I play it pitching wedge pitching wedge all the time. Tee shot perfect middle left fairway leaving me about 100 yards in. I hit a 3/4 shot which wasn’t topped but was a lower ball flight than my tee shot; no problem because it had spin on it, one bounce and stops quick on the green about 15 feet from the pin. I was taking divots in front of the ball, getting back spin out of sand, and really striking the ball better than I ever have before. I've been playing 22 years. I had 205 in on #18. I hit a 6-iron pin high. That club usually goes 180.

A draw ball flight has the most efficient ball spin which equates to great distance with the least shot dispersion which is why it’s desirable as your stock shot. Then once you can consistently hit a draw, it’s easy to hit other shot shapes.

I do 160 yards average with 7 iron on a standard swing. When I use Jim's technique I initially lost 20 yards but the accuracy improved dramatically. Every time I try to add more power, I would end up opening my shoulders at the critical moment thus losing lots of accuracy and doing big hooks. Attempting to hit faster is very difficult with Jim's swing and he doesn't recommend it. Eventually I did manage to bring up the yardage to 160, it requires a lot of muscle pressure on the shoulders and neck to keep it still. As long as you can muscle the stillness in that area as you age, you shouldn't lose power. After a few years I still have not perfected Jim's swing, but it does work and I'm constantly finding myself back to Jim's method .

Something I’ve been working on… It’s very hard to break that habit. That causes me to spin out. This is a problem that’s came on in my later years… When I don’t spin out, I hit the ball better.

I watched this video last night and then hit 175 balls at the range this morning. I would estimate 90% went straight, regardless of what club I was using. Once I was able to feel comfortable setting up with the initial pivot he describes, I didn’t have to worry about the swing. I just kept thinking the ball was going to go straight, which I never think. Then, I could start swinging harder with confidence and was carrying my pitching wedge around 130-140 yards. I never hit the ball this straight or far.

So that if I am hitting an approach shot, and the green is dead in front of me, my feet are actually going to be shuffled around behind the ball? Like regular stance, green is at 12 o clock, feet are at 9, but in your swing, the green is at 12, and feet or closer to 7 or 8?

I like the way you explain how each (dominant and non-dominant) side works. It's absolutely, true. The fact that we have two sides essentially working against each other is what makes the golf swing so individual and unique to each person, not to mention when in life (early or late) we start building a swing, and the individual athletic ability each person brings to the fore. Here's another thought; we often swing against our dominant hand because it's usually on the non-dominant side of the swing. I played tennis as a kid. I'm a natural lefty. I think I would have been better off playing golf right handed to match up my dominant hand and dominant side. It's too late now, but it's interesting because most people would play left-handed if people did that. What a crazy game.
