Tried to polish it with a rupes compound and rupes polisher with a rupes pads, didn't remove the swirl marks. Is there a way to remove the swirl marks from the ppf?Thank you for your reply in advance.

Im about to apply my first ever coating today, and I too have watched this video multiple times, finally giving me the courage to apply DIY's 3 year graphene coating. I chose it because I'm a beginner and it was inexpensive. Also, it has graphene in it and the car is not garage kept, so I hope it helps with water spotting. Coating no longer scares me, and I have to give you Pan the credit and the pat on the back to move forward with this final step. If you can make it through all of the prep work, this should be the easiest!! Whew!! Here I go.........

You’re awesome Pan! You should’ve been a college professor. I’m serious you’re the best teacher, compared to anyone else I’ve ever tried to learn from. I’m 63 yrs old so that says a lot. What makes you so good is that you carefully break down each and every step, clearly and concisely. You further give relevant examples and offer other alternatives methods. You not only explain the processes but explain why they are so, and the potential benefits, options or consequences of cutting corners. You explain the science behind your teaching. Your classes will benefit the novice as well as seasoned professionals. You anticipate and preemptively answer potential questions. At the end of each section you quickly review so that its super clear. As if all that is not enough you perform the task yourself so that we can visually experience the lesson along with the products used. You offer your students a complete list of products used in all video descriptions. Everything you do, you do exceedingly well. You’ll be way over a million students in no time. You’re friendliness and wonderful personality also makes the lessons very engaging and enjoyable. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ♥️ for all your hard work and dedication! Good tutorial Pan on ceramic/graphene coatings. In regards to stripping washes, one of the best stripping/paint prep/decontamination washes I have ever used is Griot's Foaming Surface Prep. That stuff works absolutely amazing and if you mix it at a higher dilution or use it full strength it works incredibly well at stripping off waxes and sealants to get the surface squeaky clean! Compared to Purple Power Vehicle and Boat Wash and Adams Strip Wash (which I also have) it is on another level. In fact, probably 2 to 3 levels above. You just have to wear nitrile gloves when working with it because it can chemically burn your hands at higher dilution ratios or full strength (I know, I did it to myself. Not crazy burns, but it did strip a surface level of skin off my palms so I am guessing it has a very high PH level). But gosh does that stuff work good as a stripping type of wash. Highly recommend that stuff for any stripping or decontamination wash.

For reader information, i have used Cquarts UK, Gyeon Syncro, and 22ple HPC over many cars for many years. I would recommend 22ple HPC for the EASIEST to apply especially for beginners. The flash time for this one is very generous. UK one flashes very fast and a bit sticky. Gyeon one is the most finicky which requires many layers as well as extra buffing and exact timing.

I recently purchased a new vehicle. Looking to do my own ceramic treatment. I would not think that I would need to do the polishing stage. Love your videos. So much knowledge.
@PanTheOrganizer5 ай бұрын
A light polish might still be needed if the vehicle you took delivery of has a wax or sealant, and 99.9999% of times, dealerships apply some cheap wax prior to delivery to make the car look good and justify the crazy "dealer prep" price they have on your sticker. And as it's crucial to make sure you remove ALL previous protections before applying a coating, machine polishing is the only way to ensure 100% removal of that dealership crap. That's why you see detailers polish a car before applying a coating. It's not just to remove scratches and swirl marks. Also, it's rare in my 27 years of experience, that I see a flawless paintwork when a new vehicle is delivered to a customer. I have a bunch of new car prep videos, where you can see there is always swirls and scratches in the paint. See a few examples below: Audi RS6 Avant Performance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gma2gmOQfq92oJIsi=mcQiMs9HBLlaqjGK Mercedes S 580: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKLCpZmZrNesjKssi=whord2_UEFSg28UW Tesla Model Y: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4eagoqtrtqDgpY Aston Martin Vantage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXzKkmavj7uHp9E Volvo XC60: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqenc3Wbo82MfKM Porsche 911 Carrera: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJTOmpysl6ukqZY Audi Q7: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmirdHWJi9OcsK8

Pan I get this question a lot. Can you still coat cars that have paint damage, deep scratches, rock chips, things of that nature? A lot of people think they need a new car or new paint job to do so.
@Daviddear303 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. Some people aren't going to get the damage fixed. Some don't even do paint correction 1st.
@PanTheOrganizer3 жыл бұрын
You still can, as long as you prep the surface correctly. The reason why we polish cars before applying a ceramic coating is because you want the paint to look as good as it can before "sealing" it for many years. But you could still apply a coating on top of scratched paint, as long as there is clear coat there to bond to, it will bond.

I’ve owned it for 6-years and have done an interior cleaning each spring and try to do weekly maintenance washes, which are difficult in the winter here in Syracuse, NY. I want to do a ceramic coating on it so this video was perfect to outline my plan of attack on the proper steps to follow. No garage so I’m going to get a Harbor Freight 10 x 20 canopy to work under in the driveway and will perhaps be ready to attach some separate tarps for side walls in case of rain. Thanks for the video! Just a couple of questions: 1) Are you using all 8 sides of each leveling and buffing towel? New side per every section you do? 2) Is there any concern with the product drying on the towels and then marring the next section? 3) Can you use the same applicator for the entire car? Same question about it drying and marring...
@PanTheOrganizer18 күн бұрын
1) Yes all 8 sides, flip towel when needed. 2) Not while you're applying the coating. But once you're done with all the vehicle, throw the towel away. 3) Usually yes, but you can do half the car with one side, and the other half with the other side of the applicator. That's if you're using a microfiber applicator. If you're using the microsuedes, change them once or twice during the application.

This is simple once you understand the basics: 1) wash the car 2) use an iron remover to remove brake dust and fallout 3) use a clay bar to remove any other embedded contaminants in the paint 4) if needed, machine polish the surface to remove defects like swirls, scratches, oxidation 5) use a paint prep spray (or isopropyl alcohol mix) to remove polishing oils and residue 6) apply the ceramic coating To help you put those steps into perspective, watch one of the videos below where I fully detail a car from A to Z: Mercedes S 580: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKLCpZmZrNesjKssi=whord2_UEFSg28UW Aston Martin Vantage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXzKkmavj7uHp9E Volvo XC60: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqenc3Wbo82MfKM Tesla Model Y: kzbin.info/www/bejne/naDLnKZurbVohLs Porsche 911 Carrera: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJTOmpysl6ukqZY Audi Q7: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmirdHWJi9OcsK8

Hi Pan, given that graphene cant bond to the paint surface, most graphene coatings apparently have a very small amount of actual graphene in them and are predominantly ceramic based. How does this small amount of graphene make the vehicle less susceptible to water spots? I can't seem to wrap my head around it. Water spotting should occur to all coatings, and as you've mentioned will vary based on a bunch of factors. So I'm keen to hear your explanation about how the graphene limits water spotting and now that they've been out a few years, what your real world experience is with that particular aspect of the graphene coating. Many thanks, Pete :)

Correct. You don't apply quick waxes on ceramic coatings. You use proper SiO2 spray sealants like CarPro Reload, Gyeon Cure, Kamikaze Over Coat, Gtechniq C2V3, The Last Coat 2.0, Lithium Ceramic Slam, etc.

@@PanTheOrganizer Do you have any tips or products intended for ceramic coated quick cleanings? For ex.. I have a little dust on the vehicle in between washes I would usually do a quick wax for for a quick clean/shine. My current understanding of SiO2 sprays is I probably shouldn’t use them on a weekly basis and could get a bit $$$.

Great video again, could you please do a video showing us a vehicle/ bodywork that you feel needs a fresh coat of ceramic coating and why you think it needs doing along with the prep required to get it back at its best. This video has given me the confidence to apply my first ceramic coating to my car but i now struggling to work out which is the right time to redo it again and not still keep putting on replenishment treatments. Hope this makes sense. Keep up the great content 👍
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
It's quite simple. When a ceramic coating reaches the end of its lifespan, or you simply want to remove the coating and apply a new one, you have to go through all these steps again, from A to Z, including machine polishing. Polishing is the only way to ensure 100% removal of any coating, as mechanical abrasion is needed.

You have been the only video I found that explained it completely about flashing/buffing process. I think that is the step I missed in all other videos. All other videos talk about it flashing but then talks about how long it probably will take to "sweat" but never really said ok once you see the rainbow effect, start "buffing". So I think after playing around a while, leaving graphene for 1 to 2 minutes versus waiting for it to flash and buffing then made a difference. Obviously this is after all said and I have done the car already. If you have made a huge mistake with pretty much the entire car, what now? Do I just wait till it wears down and reapply in the future or should I ??

Once I can actually get the compounding and polishing of the vehicle where I want it, I'm going with a graphene. All that said, I appreciate the video. It's never recommended to reuse the towels and applicators used to apply ceramic coatings. Certainly not on delicate surfaces like paint, as you'd run the risk of scratching and marring the paint. You could wash the towels and reuse them for less important work like engine bay detailing, or shop cleaning for example. I just don't take any chances and throw everything away.

Thanks for the positive feedback. Yes you can polish the same day as you apply the coating. But always do a paint prep spray step after polishing (to remove polishing oils) before applying the coating. Don’t worry about graphene vs ceramic. What we learned is that graphene coatings are built on a ceramic base with a bit of reduced graphene oxide in them. What is more important is buying a coating from a reputable brand. You use a ceramic topper during those maintenance washes. Here’s my tutorial on a maintenance wash for a ceramic coated car: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6KsiGpue9KFj7csi=S8hZdR4UAi7BAmV2 Other than that, you can simply wash your car as often as you wish with a wax-free pH neutral car shampoo.

Hi Pan! Thanks for taking the time to craft such detailed and great videos. Love your work. I have a well maintained 2 year old Jeep Compass with minimal swirl marks and scratches and I want to go for a Graphene Ceramic Coating for my car. My local car detailer confirmed that the whole process can be completed in a single day. Is this a red flag that they’re cutting corners to save time?
@PanTheOrganizer2 жыл бұрын
If the paintwork is in good condition, with only light marring or swirls/scratches, it can absolutely be done in one day. On new cars, it usually takes me 10 to 12 hours on average for the total interior/exterior new car prep, including washing, decontamination, light polish, paint prep and ceramic coating application. It's only on super neglected paint, or paint that has tons of swirls and scratches, that it make take a few days for the entire process, as polishing steps alone could take a day or two if you're doing a 2-stage or 3-stage polish, or perhaps water sanding in there too. The length of time it takes to detail a car depends on many factors, including the state of the vehicle, the extent of the work needed, the complexity of the products used (for example some coatings only require 1 layer, others 3+ layers) and of course the experience and efficiency of the detailer himself.

On durability and longevity, how do you identify when a ceramic or graphene coating is wearing out and needs to be reapplied? Are there any prep differences between an initial coat like this video and preparing for a fresh coat over a worn out coating? Are there issues switching and trying a different product? Thanks, Pan!
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
When you're getting close to 80% of a coating's expected durability and if you see the hydrophobic properties starting to diminish, that's a good visual indicator the coating has weakened to a point where it's a good thing to start thinking of restarting the steps, including machine polishing, and reapply a fresh one. So when you see water beads that aren't as round and tight, or when the water starts to slow its sheeting rate, you know the coating is on its last leg.

Both perform near the same in the grand scope of things. It's to be noted that most graphene coatings are a ceramic coating with reduced graphene oxide (RGO) infused in them. Just pick a brand you like, and if they make a coating, it shouldn't matter if it's graphene or ceramic.

The only permanent solution to water spots is to get a simple water deionizer to have ZERO water spots. See my video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3yxfWSZnaaEjrs If you don't have that, always make sure you work in the shade, never in direct sunlight. Frequent washing also helps prevent water spots from etching the paint and leaving permanent damage. When drying, use a drying aid with a quality microfiber towel. Also, you can use a spray topper for your coating, that will reduce water spots, by evacuating the water quicker through water sheeting. This product is great: bit.ly/3KdJ4Ty If you see water spots after washing and drying your car, you can use a water spot remover spray like CarPro Spotless 2.0 or Gtechniq Water Spot remover. Always do this first, as it's the less aggressive. You can also use CarPro Descale shampoo to wash your car, it helps remove the minerals from the water spots. Link: bit.ly/3OKqO4u If you have tried all these methods and still see water spots, you'll have to machine polish the surface, at which point you'll also remove the ceramic coating unfortunately.

Adam's for example has a new more advanced coating that just came out this week. Any thoughts on that product? A new car is never new until it's properly detailed. - at the factory, the paint defects are often corrected quickly by rotary polishing which can leave marks and holograms, so polishing corrects those, before you lock that in long term with a ceramic coating for example. - vehicles are then transported by truck, train and boat so they are exposed to the elements, industrial fallout, brake dust, rail dust, etc - vehicles are often left at boat docks (when transported by boat) or in exterior parking lots for weeks or months, again being exposed to the elements - at the dealership, the vehicles are almost always poorly prepped using the same dirty water that was used for all the cars on a given day, and poor washing and drying methods leading to swirls and scratches - at the dealership, a layer of cheap wax or paint sealant is usually applied to attempt to make the paint glossy prior to delivery. It's crucial to remove any previous protection before you apply a ceramic coating, as coatings need to bond directly to a virgin clear coat. If you only plan on applying a regular carnauba wax or paint sealant though, you could decide to skip machine polishing, as those protectants can be applied over existing protection and it's not as crucial to prep the paint as well. I explain all of this in this popular video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5jSqqV5Ypp2g8U So you can better visualize the new car prep process, here are the steps I perform on a brand new car for my customers: Audi RS6 Avant Performance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gma2gmOQfq92oJIsi=mcQiMs9HBLlaqjGK Mercedes S 580: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKLCpZmZrNesjKssi=whord2_UEFSg28UW Tesla Model Y: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4eagoqtrtqDgpY Aston Martin Vantage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXzKkmavj7uHp9E Volvo XC60: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqenc3Wbo82MfKM Porsche 911 Carrera: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJTOmpysl6ukqZY Audi Q7: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmirdHWJi9OcsK8
