Thank you for your video. I'm deciding between oil based poly and polycrylic for my lacquered dining table which has a few heat spots. How's the heat resistance of polycrylic holding up?
@Tonyswoodshop2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure if I have put any hot pots or pans directly on the polycrylic. I will say it has lost a little shine on the edges as it is being used every day. I have not tried to buff it back up. I am pleased with it overall.

Hi there. Everytime I sand my table(painted black) It gets all these weird grey washed out splotches. I’ve already repainted it 2x and i don’t want to have to again!

That's strange! I would have to see it to understand what's happening.

The soapy water used for wet sanding. Is that jus dish washing liquid. Rookie inquiry, my first paint job on a dresser, night stand and mirror.
@Tonyswoodshop5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I just used regular dish soap. That's great! I am sure it will turn out good!

@@Tonyswoodshop One more question sir. The pumice stone you used is out of stock on amazon. Can you recommend another or can I use any 4f pumice stone and did you use it dry or wet.
@Tonyswoodshop5 жыл бұрын
@@davidsearles7089 I have not used any other pumice stone. I am sure 2f will work just fine if there is no 4f. When I used the 4f, I tried both wet and dry and for me I liked using it dry better. Certainly try both to see what you like better. Here is a link to the 2f . amzn.to/2NAtQLB

i have a question. why sand it after it has been painted? doesnt it take the paint off?
@Tonyswoodshop Жыл бұрын
If there is no clear coat, Yes it would take some paint off. I put a few coats of polyacrylic clear on it and sanded that to make it shine. If its sanded to much, yes it could start sanding the paint.

I sanded the clear goat to make a glossy shine.

That was very interesting!! Love your finished table. I have a question, is there a reason you used soapy water while wet sanding? I've wet sanded before, but just plain water. But it's been some time and am working on some projects, so just curious 😊
@Tonyswoodshop4 жыл бұрын
Just to make sure it stays clean! No, You can do either and it will turn out great. Adding a little soap keeps it lubricated and can help keep the sandpaper from clogging up. Thanks for watching!

Where did you purchase the sanding products?
@Tonyswoodshop5 жыл бұрын
The sand paper is automotive sand paper I just got from Walmart. It was a pack of 3 with 1000 2000 and 2500 grit. I'm just using a soapy water when wet sanding. The pumice powder is what I used last to get the nice shine. I could not find it anywhere except Amazon. I have the exact on I used linked in the description. It may be at a local store near you though.

@@Tonyswoodshop ok gotcha. I was looking for videos on how to apply Poly, hence me finding your title. Thx
@Tonyswoodshop5 жыл бұрын
@@AGMoneys I will tell you my experience and hopefully it will help. First I cleaned off the surface with dust and I poured some of the poly into a disposable plastic cup (So I wouldn't contaminate whole jar if I got something on the brush) then I started to apply the polly going in the same direction. I did long straight strokes. If there is a spot that was missed or messed up, sand it lightly if needed or leave it for the next coat. Once the polly starts to settle, it can gum up and just make a problem spot worse. I tried a foam brush and a bristle brush and found the foam brush to be a little easier to work with. I covered the surface and let it dry I believe it was 4 hours and then very lightly sanded it just to get out some air bubbles. Then I cleaned off the dust with some degreaser before the next coat. I did this process 3 times. After the last coat is when I started recording the shinning up part It was actually the first time I tried it and I am happy with the results. I believe is an easy process and you will do great!

@@zloungeact That alright. Its not very typical on wood projects. Its mostly used with automotive sanding. It helps the paper to not get "clogged" up. Either one will work just fine.
