This stud wall required fiberglass mesh added to help it hang between the studs; it’s two inches or more as there is no backing. To see it applied in one coat of stucco, click here. • Stucco second or brown...
Can this excess stucco texture be hidden? Yes.
The new finish has to be taken into account.
Thus one coat of even heavier sand must be applied to blend or feather in-depth.
We applied what is known as a 16/20, heavy finish sand to fill in all the low spots,
This can also flood the existing and new differences without spider cracking or checking.
A heavy finish must be sponge floated to open the stucco surface, allowing the new finish to breathe and dry faster to prevent the old spider from checking or cracking.

Hi KIRK. I get great satisfaction watching you guys do do the job I love. I am a texcote applicator in southern California and I'd like to add to a comment you made about that type of material. So the material its self is bad ass. What goes wrong with is its applicators poor workmanship. When the material is applied correctly it will last 10 to 15 years until the color fades. With occasional touch ups. You are right though if it's done incorrectly and poorly, it's better to start from scratch. That sucks that client of yours had to go through that. Thanks for all the vids. I look up to guys. Shout to the MIXER LEU. live long and blaster baby.

Good Evening Cesar dude, I actually do tell folks that tex-coats appropriately done can last well over 50 years and maintained much longer than that. I also say if not appropriately prepped or shot on in intense heat in weather that stays hot year round, when the wood expands, this is trouble. I realize there are more good guys in this field than bad guys, but folks call me when it fails not when it's holding up correctly. Peace, love, and happiness to all. I have a stucco wall that had deck bolts above it and a gutter above that, so guess what, water got into cracks at the deck joist board and the stucco wall ( which had no flashing ) and some how got inside the paper and mold/rot death for the whole wall. I live in South Florida and see houses prepped for stucco by chipping the walls. Is that needed if we use a bonding agent like in this video?
@StuccoPlastering
@StuccoPlastering 3 жыл бұрын
Howdy Jerry Dude, chipping or sandblasting is dangerous for you and the environment. It releases toxins in the air such as silica dust, maybe as bad as asbestos, as once inhaled it stays in the lungs blocking the lung's job to get oxygen. Stick with pressure washing and applications of a bonding agent. You and your neighbors and pets will be happier. It has been illegal to sandblast here in California for about 30 years, chipping and or grinding is almost as bad, be like Clinton, don't inhale. We still have a leak in our bedroom ceiling after having a new metal roof installed with flashing around the base of the chimney and wall flashing. Our chimney has 3 horizontal ledges. In 2016 we had our stucco chimney patched with elastomeric patching compound, then applied a coat of SW Loxon XP masonry/conditioner sealer and then 2 coats of SW exterior latex paint. Don't know how long that lasts our if it was done correctly. What are your steps if waterproofing a painted stucco chimney that has 3 horizontal ledges? I was hoping to have it our entire chimney re-stuccoed, but I don't think you can stucco over stucco.

Howdy Kari, if your current stucco finish is too thick, after pressure washing, apply a bonding agent to the home, then apply one coat just thick enough to cover the highest point. Kirk, I pressure washed with 3500 PSI and I removed one coat of elastomeric coating and two coats of paint, I am down to the smooth sand texture stucco that appears to be white over a base coat or brown Cote. I've power washed and rinsed this white coat quite well, and when it dries I wipe my hand over and I still get a white film on my hand. Is it okay to use the bonding agent with this happening? Would this white film be considered dust? Kirk, thank you for your reply and thank you for doing such detailed videos.. Kevin

Evening KS Dude, Often the paint often cant be removed, however, That means pressure wash well with about 3,500 PSI pressure, then allow a day to dry. Now scape any loose peeling paint that, "Clings on like a sock in a dryer," with a putty knife. Lastly, apply stucco or if you’re going to paint. Start with the primer then paint. Nothing adheres to a dusty surface and your stucco or paint is only as good as what it's applied over. Sooooo if you still have dust remove it with a broom or your garden water hose with a nozzle. Cheers, kirk Giordano plastering

Hi Kirk. I built. a CMU wall to blend into my existing stucco house wall. Do I need an expansion joint between two? CMU is an inch away from the house. Also the CMU I built I set it back from flush with house stucco so I could blend it up to the house stucco and make it look like one continuous wall. A utility closet door is just one foot from where the two meet if that is important for expansion joint requirement between the house and the CMU. I do not want to go over the house stucco unless you think it would last longer and be a better job? Does the expansion joint get nailed to CMU? Or do I bust out house stucco and nail to wood stud? This area is not seen much as it goes to a utility area of the side yard. Thanks for any help or from your viewers.

Love your videos. I just purchased a house in far northern California. It has hideous vinyl siding on it installed over stucco. I'd like to refinish the stucco but am afraid of what I'll find under the vinyl siding - besides a million nail holes. Strangely, I cannot find a video of anyone who has attempted the removal of vinyl and refinishing of covered stucco. The house was built in 1950. I'm just concerned about water/frost damage before I open a can of worms. Any thoughts?

Howdy Robert Dude, easy peasy lemon squeezy, pull off siding caulk all the holes, then apply an acrylic stucco finish, I do show exactly how this in done in a video, but can't find it myself. oppps. Hey Kirk; a few years ago, I was working on the shrine of the immaculate conception in Washington DC under the blue dome for a company. It was a union job. The main man comes in, looking at the job. He spots me with the foreman; he asks me about my choice of trowel. He asks if I had a square edge. I said yes. He then asks, why am I the only person using a pool trowel! I answered as I looked around, I hadn’t noticed. And didn’t know! He then said that I should be in uniformed in terms of my tools, clothing, etc. with the crew. I did ask him. did he have a problem with my performance? He said that mainly with my choice of tool/trowel. He strongly, suggested using my square edge. Well I didn’t finish with that job. After a few weeks, I was cut. But I have been using a pool trowel about 25+ years, it worked well for me. So when I first started seeing your posts and using your pool trowels, I was very excited/excited. This is for anyone that may come tooled to a job differently. As long as you are doing your job correctly/properly! No one should have an issue with you! Much appreciation to you for you Standards!

Good evening Whistler dude. The real world of plastering? You come to the right place.😉 After your cementitious brown coat or second coat, "the same thing" wait at least two weeks before you apply a cementitious finish, you wet the brown or second coat. A bonding agent is not necessary unless your going over a painted surface.🤷 Wet the wall with your garden hose until it's saturated, then stops dripping. If you intend to apply an acrylic finish, prime it first with the acrylic finish primer that comes with all acrylics. By the way, you can tint the acrylic, so painting is not necessary. In fact, if you paint, you will have to paint every ten years as daily maintenance. The acrylic stucco colors last for 50 to more years. Sooo, don't waste time with painting ideas.🍻 Kirk and Jason Giordano plastering, sharing well over 850 free Stucco/Plastering videos for your education. Good Evening Kevin, the only reason a fella would pressure wash a scratch coat would be that it set over a year and too much dust was on it before it could accept a brown coat, "second coat" thus all you would have needed to do would have been to hose off with full pressure from a water hose, no bonding agents are required for a scratch coat to accept a second coat. Howdy Donald, sorry to hear this health issue brother. Stucco finish coat will harden unless it is mostly Lime, sort or rare. If it is mostly lime it will adhere to the block wall, tip, mist the wall first with a garden hose then apply the excess color while damp this will give a good mechanical bond. I have not heard the terminology "stucco cure," so not certain what you have. When stucco has cured this means it has set and is hard. I would advise regular primer designed for aluminun sideing, and not what you have leftover. Live long and plaster Sharing plastering information, as the world can use more teachers.

Kirk, I would clean that with diluted muriatic acid, then power wash. However we have to build a secure basin to trap the water. When were done scrubbing it down and rinsing, we need to neutralize it with sodium carbonate, then test it with pool strips. The water needs to be 7.4 ph before releasing in to the drain. Then we can add the Steel crete over the old substrate without worry....It works on pools that are being redone with Marbelite...

Evening Rodrigo Cubedo, thank you brother, first thing rent a good pressure washer that can provide at least 3,000 psi and clean all the walls well, next apply a bonding agent on the walls you wish to skim coat with a smooth finish., finally buy BMI 690 cement plaster and apply a very thin coat, and you're done. BMI is only sold at professional yards so it may be easier and more convenient to buy at the local hardware chain stores. I recommend the 690 as it has very fine sand and is real sticky, plus you would have to rent a D 20 to mix or mix in buckets, this material can not be mixed more than 3 to 5 minutes if you decide to mix in buckets. If you buy your cement plaster from Lowe's or home depot the sand is heavier so naturally you will have to apply a bit heavier. Take much practice, but I think you can do it. Howdy Barry, you can still mist the wall with water after you have applied a bonding agent, but the bonding agent has to be dry, or it may just wash off. A bonding agent makes certain the color finish will adhere to a painted surface. sometimes with a really hot day, I too have to spray the wall with water or it will draw the moister right out of a new color finish, thus making the color have a loose bond and the color weak. What bonding agent did you use here? Can that bonding agent be applied with a Hudson sprayer instead of rolling?

Hi Kirk, I will be adding color to a wall. I was planning to paint it but you convinced me to color-coat. Just want to be sure I do it correctly. 3500psi pressure wash followed by bonding agent skim coat (painted wall), allow to dry, then I can color-coat. Did I get this right?Thanks for sharing your knowledge! As a new avid fan and diy'er I find myself looking for faults in my stucco just to fix it!

I need to re-skim over a big 2 story wall that is EIFS synthetic stucco. Is this the same process?
@StuccoPlastering
@StuccoPlastering 3 жыл бұрын
Good evening Jason, yes, however, make certain the existing wall is clean if you're going to apply another coat of synthetic or acrylic stucco finish coat, "the same thing" apply another primer after you clean the existing wall as your new finish is only as good as what it's applied over.🤔 Kirk and Jason Giordano plastering, sharing well over 850 free Stucco/Plastering videos for your education. @@StuccoPlastering ty!!!! Ok i am going to attempt it. Few questions. 1. Can I buy the stucco premixed 2. How do I color the stucco, I've heard it goes on the wall the color you want it.... 3. Will you share the best video you have on this to re skim a EIFS wall. I have to "re fasten" my wall due to it coming loose from the substrate. SIR that inspected the house said it needs mechanical fasteners to reattach the all. Any ideas on that? I would like to send you a picture of the wall. Ty in advance.

Kurk, what is the best way to remove small areas of stucco but on a lot of units? My brother and I are doing some restoration work where we are having to replace the decking on 70 balcony units. This requires removing a horizontal strip 12" bu the width of the deck (approx 16-18 feet). We are having to save 4" of the mesh and felt paper that was used behind the stucco so it can be tied back into. The problem that we are running into is just the sheer amount of manual labor that is required to safely remove that stucco without damaging the mesh or felt paper behind. Any input from a professional like yourself would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, from Canada.

Greetings Sam, I'd recommend buying a bosch bulldog and a 12 dollar half-inch tip, there is a picture of one in our Amazon description. Be careful cutting large pieces will cut your hands to shreds if you're not careful. My brother, Luuu, and I cut a piece about 5 feet by 6 feet, it was too heavy, the weight when the last wire holding it was cut drropped it like the rock it was, cutting our hands to shreds through our gloves badly, it then dropped on the scaffold bar below bent tit to high heaven then went bounded through their living room window, no one was home at the time, so, dont do that. Another way is to get a saw with a diamond blade and equipped with a suction airbag to suck up the dust, cut sections that can be manhandled safely. Or do what I recommend these days, Sam, call guys like Thor demolition, they have all the tools to safely cut and vacuum the dust at the same time, this allows you guys the freedom to become the plasters once more, leave the demo to the young bucks who have the proper equipment. Let's all get plastered like stucco Kirk Giordano sound plastering advice

Hi Kirk Over here in the uk there is a product called SBR add mix and they say you should add it to the mix I.E render / screed would you still just use it as a bonding coat ? Hope you can help.

MrDjpete1 , Houdy MrDjpete, I would still use a bonding agent, as if it fails to adhere I would have to go back and redo. All bonding agent poured into the product render themselves useless as they mix, I don't take these chances, ever! Kirk and Jason DIY plastering channel

Good evening Buildflow, what arm pain, LOL. There's an Indian guru on youtube I sometimes listen to. He says take Neem with Termurick with each meal, and indeed this works wonders. Hell, my 28 years old son Dan has been adding both to his smoothies for over a year. Dan's a kickboxer. Among other things, he says it helps him too. Kirk - you are a gifted teacher and thank you for all your videos. I can see ghosting through the stucco over the cinder block on my Mom’s house. It is 45 years old. Could I power wash the walls and just put on a new color coat (white) to hide the ghosting? I was also considering painting as an alternative. Thanks again for sharing your experience and knowledge with all of us in DIY land!
