Help Tyler Brown- I put 2 coats and let it cure 24 hours. I had a slightly damp kitchen towel on the butcher block for about 10 minutes and it minimally damaged the finish. Did I miss something? Your how to videos are very helpful!!

Hi, does this product darken the color of the wood ? I want to apply this to birch without making it dark. Also, does this need to be reapplied in the future? Thanks good video

You’re probably best off using Osmo poly x RAW buddy… it doesn’t give the ‘wet’ look

It may need another coat after a few years of use buddy. Depends where you’re using it as to how heavily it wears

I’ve got the Osmo UV exterior oil. Can I use the 3m pads with that? The directions say use a brush.

Does this product cover little scratches and marks on wood? also it fills some cracks? , adn did you sand it as finish step or only use the 3M finishing pad , Cool Work!

Unfortunately, Osmo polyx won't fill in cracks or scratches. It's not a film finish like polyurethane or lacquer, so it's important to sand the surface as best you can.

In case of repair due to a stain. Do you need to sand down the entire table tap or can I just sand down that area? Then reapply the osmo?
@jonhall1049

I think you can sand the affected area and reapply. I know it’s one of their main USPs

Is this product safe to use over stain. My intent is to sand it down, water pop (to allow stain to evenly penetrate), stain, then wait about 48 hrs before applying finish
@TylerBrownWoodworking
@TylerBrownWoodworking Жыл бұрын
I don't believe you can use it over stain due to the way the finish is designed to work. However, they do have another product, OSMO Wood Wax Finish that is available in a lot of different colors. I have used it on other pieces of furniture and it applies and performs the exact same way.

If you encountered a bad job, what type of sander would you use to remove the hard wax oil and start over? I used Osmo 3041 (the one with the white pigment) on my oak floor and it left a horrible white cloudy sheen because I put too much on.

I’m building a custom pc desk using rubber wood. Do I have to sand it or can I just apply the Osmo? My local wood supplier said sanding is not necessary. Thoughts?
@1987n5
@1987n5 10 ай бұрын
If you are happy with the roughness and feel of the surface, then sanding is not necessary. But Osmo will not magically turn your surface into a flat mirror finish. I won't fill cracks or smooth out rough patches. On a PC-Desk I do enjoy the feel of wood that is not sanded to death, but a finish is definitely necessary for protection against blood sweat and tears while working/gaming and the occasional spill of drinks. I would use a matt finish next time. Glossy was a mistake as it highlights rougher patches from some angles and lighting conditions.

Can you apply over epoxy resin? Not sure if you applied over the names on the step stools.

Yes, I did use it on the kids step stools with the epoxy resin and it worked great. They look the same as when I finished them.

Does it work ok on oak or mahogany veneered MDF. Or would have issues soaking in beyond the veneer.
@TylerBrownWoodworking
@TylerBrownWoodworking 5 ай бұрын
I used it on veneered plywood with no issues, and it holds up great. I doubt it would cause the MDF to swell but I would test it out first.

From my understanding this is close but not quite the method to use osmo oil. 1st-use a brush or small microfiber roller to apply the 1st and 2nd coats, do not wipe off access oil on the 1st two coats 8-10 hours after 1st coat you sand and reapply and wait again and then sand again then do something similar to what he does for the last 2 light coats. Doing it the way he does it will not get you full penetration of the oil for maximum protection. Cheers, George

George, I appreciate the feedback and you are correct there are multiple ways to apply the finish according to OSMO. One way does use a brush or roller but that is generally used for applying the finish to flooring. For woodworking and furniture this is by far the easiest and will give you the best results. However you should NOT sand between coats, you may be thinking of a different product. As for the protection, its been about 3 months of heavy use with kids and I have yet to see any discoloration or stains. Here are the instructions directly from the Osmo website for the method I used. osmocolorusa.com/product/polyx-oil-high-solid/ Apply two thin coats with non-abrasive white scotchbrite pads 1. Stir the Polyx®-Oil well and pour into tray 2. Work the product into the wood thinly and evenly in figure 8 or circular motions using a white pad 3. Be sure to thinly and evenly coat the surface and leave on the surface for approx. 5 minutes 4. With a clean white pad, polish the surface ensuring no swirl marks, rings, or wipe marks 5. Ensure all excess product is removed from surface 6. Allow approx. 8-10 hours drying time. Allow for good ventilation whilst drying 7. Apply second coat following previous steps.

from osmos application instructions: NOTE: For high quality finishes on items like tabletops, a smoother result can be achieved by lightly sanding the surface after the second coat has fully dried with P320 or P400 grit sandpaper, and then buffing in 1-2 coats with a cloth or white pad. Sanding between coats definitely provides a nicer finish! @@TylerBrownWoodworking

That's the whole point. It dries extremely hard, almost like a polyurethane, but it's all natural. Super easy to apply. I use it all the time on guitars I build.
