Hi deborah-are you using chalk pastel or oil pastel mainly? Can we use either for a similar effect? I only have oil pastel watercolour and some acrylic

soft pastels are very different from oil pastels. I really don't like oil pastels very much. Its a personal preference though.

I have had a box of pastel for years and have never managed to find out how to use them. Who knew that I would pick up so many tips in under 15 minutes. Off to order the spray and the fan brush. Thank you

What paper did you use? When you cleaned your brush what did you use to clean it? I will try this, thank you.

The paper is Uart sanded paper and I used rubbing alcohol on my brush.

Do you only apply pastels to sanded paper or would other papers be acceptable? I am learning so much and had no idea that pastels could create such gorgeous abstract pieces - which is my passion!

I also use pastel ground on paper. Liquitex clear gesso is what I use.

I don't use oil pastels at all. I do occassionally use oil sticks.

This is lovely Debora. Do you ever use watercolor paper with clear gesso as your base?

You can use different types of paper. I suggest trying different papers to see what works best for you.

Is that paper a big factor in the blurring/melting colour effect? Thanks
