Consider putting tracking device sa luggage n planning to put one sa boxes din. Wrap them with plastic before putting a tie in your boxes, your luggage can be wrapped also then we have luggage sleeves with strap around. Bad part they can prevent opening it or they'll be curious n get your luggages. 😡

To informed you, airport here in USA if they ever open your luggage they always place a letter inside informing you, they had search your luggage. It happens to me, but they didn’t get anything. It is highly likely the airport in the Philippines are responsible in lost items inside your luggages. Maybe when we travel in the Philippines, we can put a trap on our luggage’s like dye pack, once the thief tries to steal items, it activates the dye pack. The dye color eventually will marred in to their hand skin. 😅😅😊

That is a great idea like those marked money we have in banks here in US that also contains dyes that explodes in the robbers bags soon as they leave the bank. Seriously though, those garbages running the shows in the government and airports really needs to be fired and put behind bars. US opens luggage to check on something if need be but yes they leave a note in there to let the owner know. In pinas they don’t open luggage to check due to security purposes but due to STEALING PURPOSES 😏

I work for the airlines in the USA and I know by experience when I suitcase gets damaged, it’s because it’s much too heavy for us to handle and the gate agent who checks in these “heavy” bags do not put a “heavy” tag and when we grab them they fall and get damaged. Here in the USA if we get caught stealing from luggage, we get in very big trouble from the government and we lose our jobs and get fined or put in jail or both.

I understand that you are just trying to convince everyone how it works. But we all know that the maximum per luggage is 50 lbs. I want to understand what you are referring to as "heavy." Is it more than 50 lbs? Or those luggage that are of irregular shapes AND more than 50 lbs? Your information has me thinking to consider buying a sticker that says "heavy" even though I know for myself that I would not put more than 50 lbs in one luggage. I definitely do not intend for any employees to get hurt because of my luggage, so I really think that sticking "HEAVY" stickers (one each side) will protect my luggage and the employees who will handle my luggage.

I had an experience in 2015. I arrived very early in terminal 2 and checked in my baggages. When I arrived in Japan, one of my luggage’s padlock was cut, it was a clean cut and noticed it only when I arrived home. But, I was prepared. I only packed in that luggage dirty clothes that I wasn’t able to wash in Manila so nothing went missing. Also one of my batchmates from the US lost one of his baggages (I think) and never recovered it. Both of these times, we rode PAL. I’m not discriminating against PAL, but it seems that most of these thefts happened with passengers who rode PAL.

True I agree with you just only flying with PAL because obviously thieves are all Filipinos working for PAL . The best things to do just pack your luggage with nothing pricey but your old clothes because if you put leather items, branded items then expect the nightmares to happen when you arrived at your destination. Instead ship your pasalubong items in Balikbayan boxes and worry free but if you have small items for pasalubong not liquid then just take them with you in your hand carry bag for 15 lbs allowance to avoid from losing them.

Never check valuables. Always carry them yourself onto the plane. Additionally, make sure you have them and know exactly where they are before u put them through the security conveyor belt and can verify immediately afterwards that NOTHING is missing. If something is missing, immediately speak up and make a report and get a copy of it. My biggest concern for myself would be my cash and passport, followed by my credit cards and debit cards. If U R carry jewelry or a watch, that should never be put into checked baggage. (This kind of stuff gets stolen in American airports too.)

Now having said that my luggage has zippers so I put on quick clips so that the zippers are going to be harder to open. I have never had a problem until lately travelling around the Philippines. Two times now the clips have not been on the zippers when I get my luggage. I did a quick check but nothing was missing but I am sure someone had tried to look inside. I always carry my valuables in my carry on and I have never had it weighed. I think I have just been lucky. Now that I am living here if I travel anywhere I will be just taking a small duffel bag that I can carry on.

Among my pasalubongs are books from my personal library collection (still with price tags), chocolates, toys, etc. for my siblings, their children, and my grand nieces and nephews. Feel a knot in my stomach thinking my belongings could get pilfered. I’ve been away from the Philippines many years. Coming home for a short visit in April. I pray it won’t happen to me.

As much as you want to put your valuables in your carry-on bags, the very minimal weight limitations are not enough that's why you have no option but to put them in your check-in baggage. As you pointed out, unlike other airlines, United Airlines doesn't have weight limits for carry-on bags but that is just flights coming from the US. Although the fares are more expensive in PAL than other airlines, you have the option of connecting flights to other places in the Philippines once you arrived in Manila. The baggage handlers do the major robberies since they're the last people who load your bags for departure and the first to unload them upon arrival at your destination. There should be stricter hiring and monitoring procedures for this personnel. A couple of pointers to secure your luggage are to buy cross-luggage straps AND luggage locks with 3-4 combination locks that have TSA-approved key entry. This way, only authorized TSA personnel with keys can inspect and open your luggage. I got my straps and locks from Amazon. The above-mentioned only serves as a deterrent since if people want to steal anything, they will do so anyway. I'm not excluding the TSA personnel from this crime either since they do have the access to open your luggage so with that said, who do you then trust? However, these are still not enough to deter the thieves from opening your baggage as they can still simply use a simple pen to poke and open the baggage zippers as shown on social media. This is done randomly and you just hope you don't get victimized.

Too many are always in a rush after flying for so many hours, yes, tired and cranky, but if you take a picture of the contents before checking it, you should check your luggage against that picture before you leave the airport upon arrival. If you wait to get to your hotel/home, it's less believable when making a claim. Do it at the airport because now your claim is more believable as you can show security the picture and your luggage. It's also easier/faster to collect on insurance when you have a claim at the airport security.

That's nothing new though at NAIA. Whenever i check-in in Europe the check-in agent will remind me to remove all valuables from my luggage since NAIA has a reputation. Sucks for the Philippines since that's not what you want to get to be known for amongst tourists and even airline employees abroad. But unless the administration does something about it, you kinda deserve the reputation. Let's hope it will improve. Edit: And how am i supposed to claim my luggage immediately when i spend hours in those few foreign immigration lines at T3 haha

In 2019, just before the pandemic, I was traveling from Manila to Davao with Philippine Airlines. Upon arriving to Davao, the balibayan box that I checked in was damaged (it had one of those nice zippered canvas covering with the built-in handles that I bought for P2,000 at the mall). The zipper of the cover was so severely damaged, it couldn't be zipped closed any longer. And the cover itself had a huge hole on one corner of the box. I told the people in the office in charge of the luggages that my balibayan box was damaged and the cover that I had bought cost me P2,000. They offered me P500 in compensation. After some intense negotiating, the luggage office in Davao finally agreed to pay me P1,000 in cash. I didn't notice anything of value missing from the balikbayan box since I do keep all my valuables in my hand carry (cabin luggage and backpack), but I did notice that alot of the chocolates were missing!

You should not liquidate your assets, especially during a recession, this is a time for great wealth to be created, if you know what to look for. There are actually a lot of ways to make high yields in a crisis, but such trades are best done under the supervision of Financial advisor.

Outside zips on luggage are risky, if possible take a drum suitcase. In 2015 I became very paranoid at NAIA with the security at the airport. I arrived well after midnight at NAIA and I had to wait around the airport for a few hours. The security became very interested in my luggage and kept insisting on looking after it for me as I was in and out of the terminal building having a smoke. In hindsight sight I think they were just being friendly to me as they were getting me coffee most of the night from the staff canteen and they did give me advice on looking out for my personal security around Manila. It was during the height of the bullet in the suitcase scam which is the reason paranoia took over. I still think about their kindness to a stranger on his first trip to the Philippines. It's very overwhelming when I think about it. Acts of kindness such as that stay with you forever.

Well done here again. I did comment previously about buying luggage with no zips as zips can be opened up even if there is a padlock, and not only things can be taken out but contraband can be put into it as well. Zipped luggage should be avoided at all cost. Stay safe all :)

@JohnSmith-bz9be
@JohnSmith-bz9be Жыл бұрын
@@venusglendale1710 As I mentioned I commented on this before and answered this exact question but I will say this quickly... it is best for you to pay that little bit extra and get robust "aluminum suitcases" with "clam-shaped locks" that secure the suitcase. It means that if the thieves or drug criminals want access to the suitcase then they will have to destroy the locks which will be visible when you see it and then you can alert the airport authorities straight away so they can track down the luggage handlers immediately as they will still be in the airport OR alert the authorities at the airport that your suitcase has clearly been broken into and then not be liable for any contraband found inside. That could literarily save your life as some countries still have the death penalty for 'perceived' drug smuggling. If the suitcase has integrated TSA locks and somebody shady has obtained a copy of a TSA key, then put on 4-way non-TSA combination luggage straps around it. That means you will know straight away if somebody has attempted to get into your suitcase as they will have to cut away the straps first. And always take a photo of your luggage before you check it in, so you can show the authorities if the luggage has been interfered with and then get THEM and not YOU to open up the case. And these precautions and the type of suitcase that you use will hopefully deter these thieves or criminals and make them go after an "easier" target. For them, time is of the essence, AND also for their criminal actions not to be detected straight away. I also use a tracker just in case my entire suitcase is lost or stolen. If it has been stolen, my phone will show me it moving around the airprt and so it can be intercepted, along with the thievves. I hope this helps. Kind regards :)

@@JohnSmith-bz9be I agree with no zip suitcases. I was gifted with a couple old Delsey tough plastic suitcases and they both have three clips that are locked by key. They've been heavily used and heavily scratched so they're not that attractive looking, too. Thieves got to either steal the whole thing or open them with a chainsaw, but they won't get anything of value inside it.

When collecting my shoes, passport, rucksack,laptop,from three different trays that don't always get scanned at the same times and it's so difficult to keep my eye on everything while other passengers and staff are crammed together. Agree, in the case of panlasang pinoy, Possibly happened in LA already, The very long layover, and the TSA is authorised to open any baggage for security check even without the passenger, adds to the risk assessment, But yes, manila airport can always be a paradise place for baggage thieves, We yearly travel to the Philippines, and fortunately till now nothing happened to our lauagages, thanks God, ( knock on woods) But, I never put any expensive things in our check-in baggage, only the things that we need, I stoped bringing expensive gifts, I am rather organising a shopping day with them, give them the budget amount, and they are free to choose what they want, It is a fun shopping adventure for all of us,

Just this January 2023 my luggage was forced open and the lock was damaged. Can still be closed but can’t be locked. It’s a little pricey luggage so I would say expensive looking luggages can probably be prime targets. Even if u report it, nothing comes out of it except the fact that sharing your story serves as a warning and a reminder to fellow travelers to be more careful where they put their belongings. Best solution probably would be to change all the personnel handling the movement of luggages or better yet for the airport management to find a new contractor. Or DO NOT bother traveling to the Philippines at all if we think our luggages are not safe upon landing. 😞😞😞 But the question is, do we have any conclusive evidence that such incident(s) actually happened in the Philippines? Hopefully perpetrators will be held accountable whoever they might be. 🙏🏻

That’s why it’s also partly our fault if we tolerate this shameful act if we give them money or as they say “under the table” Let’s all stop these once and for all! Years ago when I went home, the airport personnel tried to signal to me when I was going thru customs that she wanted some “bigay” (as I was already warned by a friend). Instead of catering to her “exploitation” on me, I did not comply to her wants. It is wrong for her to be asking or coercing balikbayans and it is wrong for us to give her, cause that’s rewarding/promoting more of the same dishonest behavior, that’s why it does not stop!

It is more likely been done in the Philippines because no CCTV around or no body cam for the handler.I’ve tried myself how to open a luggage without touching the padlock and it’s so easy peasy, simple instruction… get a pen , any pen as long as it is pointed and insert it between the zipper of your luggage voila!! Oh well, I had the same experience in 2007. From Qatar, my luggage was torn, opened and some of my important things were missing. Thieves in the airport had been doing that for a decade. If there is a complaint ,they just ignored it.

Definitely not a good way to showcase the Philippines. Hopefully the Marcos government can do something about these culprits and syndicates inside this airport. You should have all valuables inside your personal bags/carry on. Here in America, all airlines are responsible for all damaged, delayed and lost luggage. When it come down to it all, your best bet is to get the travel insurance every time you fly overseas.

Airport of countries serves as face of the country and its people. Whatever first impressions people generate when they enter an airport, it becomes a stigma when they exit the airport.

I just flew into Manila on Friday. With the long lines for immigration, that gives baggage thieves plenty of time to get what they want. I didn't have any theft, but by the time I got to the baggage claim, it was several hours after I arrived, (and I didn't stop to go to the bathroom either).

I placed an AirTag on my baggage when I went home in the Philippines, it worked so that I know were my luggage is when it is in the vicinity within the airport. Also next time I travel, I will put a Travel TSA approved luggage strap or luggage travel cover or Saran Wrap the luggage with AirTag or some monitoring device that way you can monitor the movement of your luggage.

😎👍🇺🇲 I'm leaving next month for Manila. I shipped the bigger bulk items over earlier. I'll only have two carry-ons. If I end up being back a bunch of extra crap. I'll buy a piece of luggage and put my lease valuables in it. Lock and tape it up. If it gets lost, no big deal. My last trip was the same way. 2 backpacks. No checked bags and no waiting around for them to show up. Just run out into the heat as soon as possible. If you're the type that will burst into flames with the heat? You'll want to get that over with quickly. I had no issues whatsoever on my last trip. Fingers crossed, this trip goes as well.😁 Cheers from the PNW Seattle WA area USA. ✌️

WHAT COMPANY DID YOU SHIP WITH, ANY ISSUES?

@@cjmrcjmr I can't remember the company. I'm trying to find a recipe or pic of the box. I've also asked the recipient if she remembers. As far as issues. I had none. It showed up on time or at least the tracking was accurate. Apx 3 months. My box was shipped to the East coast of Manila. 12 hours due east of metro Manila. It was intact and unmolested. Arrived at her door. Amazing considering the tiny town she lives in. Right around $100 for their largest box. I'll get back to you with the company as so as we figure it out. 👍
