The longest Intermittent Fasting I did was twice for 44 hours and my BS levels were surprisingly stable over that time. All I had was black coffee and water during the fasting. I did feel hungry toward the end of it and needed to eat something. I typically try to eat a Low Carb diet, and was doing good for 6 months, then cravings come into the picture, so now have to reset and get back into it again. So you're correct in saying that Low Carb isn't a long term solution, but can do it over certain periods. I did lose 40 lbs which was a great benefit and felt so much better. Enjoy your Channel Tom, keep it up mate

I love your videos they help me feel calm living with a condition so troublesome! I’m glad I’m a type 2 diabetic who isn’t on insulin but I still find it hard to manage my blood sugars sometimes and it can be very scary when they’re higher than I’d like them to be.

When I got my first finger-prick meter in 2019, I discovered "on my own" that if I wanted to see a reasonable level in the morning, I had to stop putting things in my mouth by 6 PM. Instructions for planned blood draws at a lab always say "Nothing after midnight", which really is not at all challenging and misleads people. 6PM is the new Midnight!!!

Excellent topic! The biggest thing that spikes my blood sugars at breakfast are high carb/sugar breakfast cereals or pastries. Problem is that I love them! I am on shots and my work arounds are to take my Lymajev insulin earlier than normal and/or splitting up the meal into two portion and eating a portion a hour later. I also typically save those higher carbs breakfasts on the days I do my regular gym work-out in the morning 3 days a week and need those carbs for energy and when my blood sugar is 130 to 180 before a workout it is ideal as it always drops fast. I also have very consistent in range blood sugars in the morning taking a shot of Tresiba in the morning (amount rarely changes at 18 to 20 units) and making sure my blood sugars are good before I go to bed, which also assures me of a good night sleep as I don't have to wake up to fix highs and lows. I also eat dinner around 5 PM and avoid high protein/fat meals as the almost always require an extra shot or two of Lymajev to compensate for the slow digestion up to 5 to 8 hours later!

I hate doctors and other "experts" who blame the diabetes sufferer for high blood sugar. I've been told over and over that I eat "too many carbs" when I DON'T EAT CARBS! "You eat too much and don't exercise". I intermittent fast and swim daily. I'm keto, high vegetables, moderate protein. According to current medical wisdom--PERFECT! Why is my blood sugar high? I was shocked. I live a healthy life and thats what i got? So i did my own research and found out if actually raise my cortisol level, which ended up messed up my insulin sensitivity. So i am trying to fix things now by limiting my carbs intake, adding acv in my salad, im still doing if but only for once or twice a week, walk for at least 5k steps everyday and my ac level down to 4.7 in just 2 months. My fasting blood glucose already in normal range, but i notice if i eat carbs in the evening (even if i exercise after that), it spike around 120 in the morning.

Ciao. I have been doing intermitent fasting 18h and my body reacted very well. No cravings, no headaches, no anything. I pump up the keto use instead of glucose, by having a morning cup of coffee with cinnamon, safran powder, and MCT coconut oil. The question is: better skip breakfast and just lunch & dinner, or skip dinner and just brakfast and lunch? I'm type 2 diabetic.

Great tips! I've been type 1 for over 30 years. I have pronounced dawn phenomenon. I do omad plus very low carb. It's just a fact the eating raises blood glucose so eating once a day means that I have one peak in glucose that is not complicated by adding meal on meal without ever bringing my glucose back into range. I don't suffer with hypos even though I fast 23hrs., I need to avoid lows as I have no awareness and suffer seizures with hypos so it's really important for me to get my basal spot on! I exercise for an hour in the morning to help my am insulin resistance too!

My approach is when I wake up..always with an alarm clock set at the same time everyday...I will scan my blood sugar and take directly 2 units Aspart after about 1.5 to 2 hours I start making breakfast and take usually 9 units of Humuline regular that will do until about 3 pm then I start with my evening meal and take another 4 to 6 units of Humuline regular depending on how high my blood sugar is before the meal .... that's it for the day...next day the same cycle over and over again. Once a day at 9.30 I take 16 units Tresiba. That's my insuline schedule....your welcome 🙏🏻 BTW....I do Carnivore and one avocado a day...the rest 100% animal based foods twice a day. 10 am and 3 pm that's it....

Hot showers in the morning lower my blood sugars, and I see this trend happen after I am out of the shower and making my coffee and breakfast, just in time to eat. Now, I take long acting at 5:30PM. I eat dinner at 6PM because my long acting seems to work within the hour and my sugars will drop, in time for dinner. Then I get stable throughout the night, and the peak of that long acting works around the time I wake up 6-7AM. Most of my carbs is around dinner time. But I do shoot to try and keep my carbs under 30 carbs a meal throughout the day. My breakfasts are 15 carbs usually. And then a light exercise and hour or so after I've taken insulin. This seems very effective for me!

I’m doing IF and low carb diet too.. hopefully it’ll improve my morning blood sugar further. And yes, I noticed that exercising and drinking lots of water in the morning upon waking up help too! My problem sometimes is not the blood glucose upon waking up.. but 2-3 hours after I wake up.. but once I eat my breakfast (no carb breakfast), it’ll go down a little and go down more after I move around.

Thanks a lot for the information. I was on Metformin for 5 years and my sugar tests showed no difference. Then I stopped and started intermittent fasting for 6 months and then OMAD in July. I noticed that my blood sugar in the morning goes to 135 at 8am and then starts to decrease until noon 105-110 before eating. After lunch Keto does not change and reads 110-120. I'm thinking of continuing until my morning sugar drops further from 135 to 110. What do you think?
@sandrawestley4193 Жыл бұрын
That sounds good to me, it’s the only way I know that works for me, I fast from about 6.30 pm until noon the next day, I do have some coffee with 2 teasps of cream during the morning till lunch time, and I’m getting readings of 5 or 6, at the start of the day, I’ve only just been told I’m pre diabetic. But I must have been getting some high spikes as a month ago, after eating lunch of poached eggs on 2 slices of sourdough bread, I couldn’t walk I felt I was passing out, I had no idea what was wrong with me, it was awful, I had this problem every day, and feeling fatigued I put it down to long covid as I had that a Xmas and since then I had this terrible passing out fatigue. Cutting out most carbs just having small amounts of wholemeal pasta like a 3rd of a cup, I just cannot believe how much better I feel. As I’m nearly 80 going for a run is not possible, a walk now is possible, which I do each day.

Well, at first I had reasonable blood sugars in reward for my new behaviors. I got off of two meds---the expensive ones. But now I have dawn effect. At 5am I'll be about 105, 110 (started up), bedtime 80's or 90's, but at 6am 140 or higher. The longer I fast the higher it goes. I have despaired at lowering this until my body decides to stop betraying me by creating sugar. Even after a first meal near noon it still gives me a horrific 1 hour number. Finally by bedtime it becomes a better sugar more like my actions have deserved. I hear this will eventually stop.

My dawn phenomenon starts at 3:00AM according to the CGM. It goes from 120 to 280 when I wake up. I exercise after dinner, not eating after 6pm. Take good load of basal before sleep. Yet my blood sugar still goes high. I don’t think waking up on 3AM to add insulin dose suites my life style. The pump might work but my precious insurance only cover 50% after $1750 deductible. I wonder how much does it cost me to get the dialysis.

Also i sometimes fast from 24h to 30h, i lose some fat during this fast and usualy my insulin dependense goes down. I weight only 63kg, but i can say i feel mutch better then wen i used to weight 83. Thank you for your comment my friend. I am not a doctor so I am not in a position to provide medical advice. If you have concerns with that I would recommend consulting a medical professional. In my videos I share my personal experience. Hope this help and wishing you all the best!
@beverlyramsahai85032 жыл бұрын
If you eat early and fast over ten hours I wouldn’t take the meds in the night it’ll lover it further. You should do a trial. Check it in the morning with meds and without but most importantly talk to your doctor Frist before trying anything and when you speak to him give him your no’s from the night and the morning.

It is amazing that the fruits recommended by these so-called experts are remarkably different from each other. What is it so difficult for them to have some consensus to recommend just one list for the diabetes patients?
@matt_fs3 жыл бұрын
Without Keto or intermittent fasting, I would need double or quadruple more insulin generally. They must be staples when diagnosed. Shocking how it isn't being discussed within the mainstream medical community.

Agreed! Thanks for your comment! Stay safe!

I think the problem is there just aren't enough long-term research data. And bear in mind that not all of blood glucose comes from carbs eaten. Like when you are on fever or have crisis-related stress, you may need several units of fast-acting insulin even if you don't eat. Also there are lots of paperback seller 'keto gurus' who tell you can quit basal. Type one should never try that!
@matt_fs2 жыл бұрын
@@RedPetrol76 just because there isn’t long term data yet, I think it would be a shame to ignore the multiplicity of proven benefits of keto for people with diabetes or autoimmune disease. I think people generally need to stray away from ‘gurus’ and learn how to perform quality research to the best of their abilities.
@RedPetrol762 жыл бұрын
@@matt_fs I couldn't agree more with the latter. These 'gurus' know their target audience, it's easy to sell paperbacks to middle-aged men by saying "this diet is based on eating steaks and bacon". Avoid them. And don't get me wrong, I'm not against keto though I personally wouldn't feel comfortable with it. My meals are usually 2 units of fast-acting insulin which equals about 35 grams of carb with me as I'm physically very active. What I'm trying to say, one should always know how to count carbs, know own personal carb-insulin ratio and basal-bolus ratio, going keto is not a solution if you don't know your limits. It allows flexibility, like I never eat candy bars, cup cakes and such but I can occasionally eat pizza and/or have a couple of beers if I want and never ever go past 10mmol/l/180mg/l. My last Hba1c was 5.5. Also, If one's ashamed of condition and does not want to take shots in public or go to a restroom to do that, then an insulin pump could be useful. But there's still an underlying psychological problem, which would require support from the loved ones or therapy rather than mystifying it with a diet.
@RedPetrol762 жыл бұрын
@@matt_fs And then of course, a "typical American diet" is not beneficial for type 1, type 2, or anybody with or without any condition. Portions are too large, fresh veggies are expensive and they use corn syrup basically everywhere! That's the worst kind of sugar. People living in Mediterranean countries in most cases have nothing fundamentally wrong with their diet as they consume fresh veggies, fresh fish, maybe some crustaceans and little carbs and anti-hormone red meat. Many Americans, especially suburban Americans, have fundamentally poor diet including lots of harmful type of carbs, saturated fat and hormone beef.

I agree with lowering the late evening amount of carbs, yet doesn't that also apply to protein, since protein does affect blood sugar, yet only on a delayed basis?

My blood sugar level is always higher in the morning, over 150 and after meals is runs 114-130 ish. I have never been diagnosed with diabetes. My last A1c was 3.7 2 years ago. Is this something I should be concerned with?

I don’t have morning spikes so much as afternoon around 3 pm till nine it’s crazy. In the morning I struggle to keep it above seventy and I only take one long lasting insulin 15 units nowadays at My last meal at 2 to see if that improves anything because i take glipizde in the morning and insulin with that about floors me. But all of it wears off by 1 pm and lunch while low on carbs still shot up to the moon. So we decided to take glipizde in the Am and insulin at noon and excersize around 4 and wake up sweet about 87 glucose. Nothing over 150 after meals.

I have a question with reference to Intermittent fasting where you break your day into 2 parts and stop eating at 6pm until 7am the next day --- I know this means that you cannot eat anything after 6pm, but can you drink any water after 6pm?

according to Dr. Jason fung and Dr Berg, drinking water or tea or coffee doesn't break the fast, try to watch Jason Fung or Eric Berg on KZbin for clearer explanations

My mother has Type II and she does diet and also takes insulin but when we check her Blood Sugar at evenings it's very high like 290 etc but in the mornings it's a bit stable like 129 etc hence what could be the reason of the spikes in the evenings?
@lumberdone78482 жыл бұрын
most likely lack of physical activity/Complex meal consumption(meal that has carb,fat and protein) and definitely she might be dehydrated the other obvious reason might be that she needs more rapid insulin/drugs for highs correction

The insulin resistant liver produces too much glucose under the action of glucagon. Insulin controls glucagon right in the pancreas. Insulin also signals the liver to resist glucagon. In a normal insulin sensitive person, all this works fine. The insulin resistant liver primarily responds mainly to the glucagon signal. Of course, all this is much worse when you pile on eating crappy carbs.

Hey I just found this channel and love it so far. I am having an issue as a type one diabetic who does CrossFit. Mainly midway during or after my workout my sugar would spike to 300+ from a stable 120. It's a 50/50 of it going back down normally, but it makes me feel super sick and nauseous all throughout my workout and after. I've tried injecting insulin to try to settle it down but sometimes when I do it ends up making it shoot all the way down to 50- which isn't much better. What should I do?

How does a slim person manage with high blood sugar in the morning? She’s already slim and is trying everything to bring it down but can’t seem to have it under control. Also takes medication sometimes but still loses weight
