13:12 Knight G4 wins. Threatens checkmate in 1 two seperate ways. If the rook drops back to defend pawn takes rook. If white makes a passive move then knight captures pawn on F2 or Queen captures pawn on H2 both are checkmates. White has material advantage but also a losing position
@laibw24585 күн бұрын
Qxh2 then after recapture keep checking with the knight on g4 or f2, the rook cant recapture due to bishop pin and the king is stuck on h file due to pawns

Hi Igor, this was a great video, I really liked it. I was thinking that in 8.01 instead of taking the pawn, the bishop can go to g6 right ??
@rietteweetraad23920 сағат бұрын
At 8.07 1.g4 Nxg4 2. Ng3 Bg6 3. Qxg4 Nxa1 4. Bg5 and soon Rxa1. Alternative 1.g4 Nxg4 3. Ng3 Qh4 and then 4. h3 Qxg3 or 4. Re1 Qxh2+ and a hard time for white to defend.

For the puzzle I would say Nf4 threatening mate with Qxh2, and rook can't take it (Rxf4) because of the same Qxh2 (now the queen would be defended by the bishop in d6)? So the remaining thing to do for the white after Nf4 is to perpetually check the black king with the queen or lose material (Rg1g2, fxg6, Rg3g2...)

In #3, why wouldn't they take the attacking G pawn w/the knight (instead of the bishop), thus preserving the fork and escape protection?
@Niraj_0044 күн бұрын
Nxg4 to take at Nxf2 and checkmate or after Nxg4 play Qxh2 and it's also a checkmate if he takes Rxg3 to capture our knight then Qxh2 checkmate protected by bishop

Wait a second… In the Gukesh-Ding example, Can’t white just play Kh1 and still be winning? If Qxc4, Qxh8+ followed by xc4? What am I missing? Edit: Oh… Qxh4+ Qxh4, Rxh4+ Kg1, Rh8 and black is fine. It would’ve been helpful to see that variation for me. Is Rf2 to block the check not still winning? Someone help.

sure, Qxh2 leads to a draw, but Ng4 seems to be winning, as Rg3 must not move...and white seems to have perpetual check at best after Qe6+ Kf8...

@@scionescire Why Kf8 , when Kg7 is possible ? And I don't think that black needs to draw or white has perpetual checks. Ng4 just wins the game on the spot.

@DeathNanaya4 күн бұрын
I’m not too sure myself, but my best guess is you block its sight with Ne4, since that square is no longer defended by the knight, or I think a better move is Be4, since that leads to Knight takes rook, Bishop takes bishop and now threatens the other knight, knight moves away, your dark squared bishop opens the path for the queen to take the knight.
