@@damonclark5742 yes that’s a great tip.a also with light weight you can really focus on the range of motion and slow down the rep to feel that burn
@monsterhuntervideos4446 Жыл бұрын
You can safely go heavier, but you just have to increase the weight very gradually and only up it when it starts to feel easy. You just want to make sure you're fully adapted to lifting it back up over the back off your head after finishing your reps before deciding to up the weight. I only up the weight by 2.5 KGS when I feel ready. Obviously you can't go as heavy as when you use a rack, but you can still adapt to lift relatively heavy. Like the other people have commented just do higher reps and go slower to make up for not lifting at your max. You can still go all out on Dead Lifts if training at home.
@matthewm1525 Жыл бұрын
There is another way. It’s called the Steinborn Squat. They started doing squats, like we do today, before they built racks. So they would load weights (or the bar would have the weight built in) and lift the bar in its end. Then they would stand next to the bar and slowly lower the bar on to their back as the would squat down. And gradually moving faster and more quickly, they would lower the bar into their back until they were at the bottom of a squat movement. When you’re done you lean the bar end down while at the bottom again, and push the bar upright. I would highly recommend doing this with lighter weight at first. lol
@uzzie888 жыл бұрын
I already do this. It becomes difficult when you need to increase the weight.

If you feel weird or uneasy moving the bar from the collarbones to behind the neck, AND have decent Overhead press strength, you can press or push press the bar to a full lockout, stabilize and get your bearings, then give it a controlled drop by dipping down a bit just before it makes contact and kind of "absorbing" any impact that may have occurred. I like it much better unless the weight is light. Gives me peace of mind. Great vid btw.

How about cleaning the bar back up from the back squat position? I noticed in the video he doesn't lock it out first when returning the bar. Seems like that would be safer than just trying to clear the head.

If you're in a gym without a squat rack you're in the kind of gym that's gonna be pretty upset if you miss a clean and drop that bar on the floor. If you're absolutely stuck at a place like this it'll be a better use of your time to do lunges with the bar in a front squat position. Whatever you can Front Squat for a set of 5 will be close or exceed what you can Clean. However, whatever you can Front Rack Lunge for a set of 10 reps per leg will be something you can easily Power Clean and lower under control.

Eh this technique for back-squatting without a rack assumes that the person doing it can (at least once) overhead press what they can squat... for most people, that's not the case. Back squats are all about high weight, low reps. Imo, advising people to put a high weight on their back in this way is potentially dangerous.

It's far safer and smarter to just work on pistol squats if you don't have a rack.. if you aren't able to do a pistol (most of us can't) look up a progression and work through the steps. Hungarian split squats are another much safer alternative.
@Criticalbench8 жыл бұрын
Yes, pistols are awesome and should be added to your training but learning how to do a clean and front or back squat is also very advantageous and should be done with light to moderate weight. Thanks. CC
@alicereader8 жыл бұрын
Bulgarian split squats are really a very good option, but pistols are dangerous to do with weights, because at the botton position your back round, so every weight you hold may overload the spine.

I do these at home when I have no rack until I get one in the next few months. You can still do 8-12 reps and you can improve your form from practice. If you want to train power and strength at a quicker rate or for dedicated lifting you will need a rack in case of failure and to put it down because you will not be shoulder pressing what you can squat.

How safe is the back squat variation with heavy weight? In terms of shifting from the clean
@Criticalbench4 жыл бұрын
If you are familiar with the movement and can execute it properly it should not be an issue. However, if you are new to this then you want to start out light while getting your form and technique on point before going heavy.

Bro can you make a video on how to catch the bar in front of the shoulders
@S87-p6c6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this great video. Made my workout a bit easier. But I'm limited by the weight I can shoulder press to get the bar over my back. Will raising the volume with reps and sets make up for the lack of weight progression? Are front squats better than back squats with this technique?

This is only way I can do barbell squats. It works and is much more challenging . Annoying part is you can’t push your self too hard or you won’t be able to get the bar down safely.

That is great advice!

What's wrong with the last option?

is there a good way to practice for the flexibility and maneuver to get into front rack position? I don't feel confident in my ability to get into and keep that position.
@Criticalbench4 жыл бұрын
A lot of people find this position a little awkward. However, it does become more comfortable with practice. What I can suggest is to start including more functional movement exercises as well as stretching exercises into your programming to help improve your flexibility, and your ability to get into this position and hold it comfortably.
