It's funny how learning about your own native language, helps you to learn a new language. I'm a native English speaker, but I like to watch videos on learning English because the same teaching techniques and obstacles are the same for learning Spanish or French, etc. It's like reverse learning. It shows the very similar ways languages are constructed, then you can compare what you know in your native language to the new language to push through on grammar and verbs, vocabulary. It takes what's blind to you in your own language and makes it visible in the new language, you realize you've been doing the verb tenses and conjugations blindly all along in your own language. Thanks for your videos.

Thanks a lot, teacher! I am Russian speaking. Here are the proverbs that I remembered: Without work, you cannot even catch a little fish from a pond (Без трудА не выловить и рыбку из прудА). Patience and labor will grind everything. (Терпение и трУд все перетрУт). Chinese proverb: "The path of a thousand li begins with the first step." I myself have been learning English all my fairly long life, and I am still on the verge of the first step. Your speech, dear Liza, I understand well enough. There is progress in listening. But it is still very difficult for me to speak. And from this stop in learning the language, I even began to learn German. I really love to learn foreign languages, but I have practically no plan.

No wonder why I hardly accomplish my goal because 1st, I only had the goal, but no plan. 2nd, always feel that my time is already limited, so was eager to bit off more than I can chew a time, turned out that nothing was able to accomplish. I know the grammar and I know how to make a sentence but when it comes to use different expressions or everyday life expressions, I usually get stuck and this is where you comes in. I have learn a lot from your videos. Talking to native speaker and then break their conversation down to make us understand in an easy way is something only expected from a teacher who knows when and how to hit the mark. you are awesome. keep it continue so that I can learn along with more and more new expression. A few days ago I was in a situation where I needed a perfect English expression to express my thoughts and suddenly I came with the right one "a perfect storm" to express myself. whenever I learn new expression like this I try my best to use it again and again to get fully master of it. Lisa i love all your advice, tips and wisdom you share with us, it is so true that usually we have dreams, plans and wishes that we want to accomplish but we don't put them into a concrete target, objective and we just swim into a surreal path that doesn't take us anywhere, we just walk in a circle. In my case something like that has happened to me when i try to learn new things in English, because of my "intermediate" level of English, sometimes i find boring attending languages schools because they put me back in earlier grades just because "i don't have a very fluent English or i forgot some grammar rules", so i usually learn by myself with books and videos, but not having a course program may get you into a non specific goal. Next year i will get my Architecture College Degree, so I've started to focus into getting the TOEFL Diploma with 450 points to apply for a master's degree in construction, it requires several exams in math and other subjects, so, as you say, it is also important to put all our energy into one thing so as to get the results we want and avoid to do lot of things at the same time.

Great tips, Lisa! Everything you put it here makes all the sense. I used to be an English teacher in my country but I've been conscient that I would need to improve it as I had to prepare my classes. Another tips that I use to give to my students was that if they started to think of something, they should just turn into the languge they were learning, since it happens that something you have a context that you might wonder " Oh Gosh, how would I talk about that in a English country? Even if we feel that we can express in another language in many ways: For example: The other day I went to a mechanic garage and the professional was explaining a malfunction in my car, something in my own language and I would no idea about it even in my native language, and then I tohught "how would I understand if I were in an English speaking country? Then I decided to look for car mechanic terminology in English. Knowledge is infinite, but it doesn't mean that we need to get desperate, but just learn the most that we can from that context. No w I'm working in another area and i 'm learning the technical terms about it.

Adjective ruin not only sentences but also the messeges as well. The word 'profoundly' does more harm than good here, doesn't strengthen your intent; it rather tells you don't mean it. I hope Liza would some day explain this. The same with "I really appreciate ...

@@mak.stif.g3672 What? in what way is it more harmful than good? He's saying that he's grateful to a big extent, therefore the profoundly and the really, it isn't harmful in any way. It doesn't even pass off as being insincere.

Chinese proverb: 笨鸟先飞, meaning “Untalented birds fly out first.” If we are not so talented on something, we can work early while others are still sleeping. Similar to “Early birds get the worms.”
