Hello friends! Today I am sharing the five things I have begun to integrate every day or every week to add a little bit more glamour to my everyday life. You all know I love 1950s glam, and doing these five things has definitely made me feel more put together, better mentally, and more productive every day. What are some things you do every day to feel more put together?

You are adorable! FYI, I am a nail tech. and a great way to keep your manicure is to oil your cuticles. You don't have to have a fancy oil just something you will use. Especially after washing dishes and bedtime.

so true, also my grandmother taught me that you always push back your cuticles, every single time you wash your hands, no need to get out kit, you do it with the towel.

I used to pincurl my hair every night in my teens and twenties. That would be during the late '60s/'70s. In the mid '70s we all had the Afro perms with the metal prong combs. After that it was a bob and I've stuck with variations on the bob ever since. I'm 71 now. Makeup goes on every day and hair is done whether I'm staying home (which is mostly now) or going out. Back in the day we used Amami setting lotion (very sticky) and later a green gel in a wide squat jar called Dippity-Do. Anyone remember those? During the '70s and '80s it was the 1930s and 1940s styles I loved and was copying. And I loved 1920s art deco. Anyone remember Big Biba in London? I had my bedroom done out like that, dark amd moody, ostrich feathers in vases and one of those glamorous lady lamps and Hollywood style lightbulbs vertically in a row each side of my mirror. That was in England. I'm in Australia now, bit more laid back and up to date. But not the clinical grey and white granite and slate look.

Dippity-Do was great! I haven't thought of that in years.

In the 60's and early 70's we would set our hair with brush rollers.There were metal brush rollers and plastic brush rollers.We slept on them (barely) so that we'd have a good hair style the next day.Ouch-they were torture, but we wanted the right look for school or work. The pink sponge rollers were much more comfortable to sleep on, but often slipped out during the night.I still use Aquanet Hairspray!!!

One of the tips my mum taught me in the 80s for putting on long-lasting lippy, is to use your foundation powder on your lips as a base, then apply the lippy. It also helps to stop bleeding. I haven't done it forever, but i bought my first Besamé lippy recently and that trick was what saved me from throwing it at a wall. It's the worst lipstick I've used in 20 years for bleeding lol. Given that it's a replica recipe, i know why the foundation trick exists now 😂
@WithLoveKristina
@WithLoveKristina Жыл бұрын
Oh interesting, it doesn’t bleed for me! I always use a lip liner, and blot it too though; I wonder if that helps? But I’ve definitely heard the trick of doing foundation/powder!
@Selena-gz9ts

I've always done this. Is that not supposed to be done? I've been doing it wrong? I base my entire face and a little of my neck. Sometimes I go so far that a little ends up on my hairline and I take a wet wipe to it carefully not to touch my face and only the parts that I got on my hair.
@aussiejubes
@aussiejubes Жыл бұрын
@WithLoveKristina yes the lippy comes with instructions and blotting is a key instruction. I also blot, I blot all lipsticks. I've never used lipliner because I feel like I look like a clown and I think it does help stop bleeding! I have a nude liner, I will try using that with the Besamè and see how I go! Also, now I think about it, perhaps the fact that Australia is so hot that lipsticks are soft and melty contributes to the amount of bleeding im experiencing. I don't know why that never occurred to me! I need to investigate a makeup fridge now.
@aussiejubes
@aussiejubes Жыл бұрын
@Selena-gz9ts I don't think it's not meant to be done, I think it just fell out of fashion. Although I'm not a makeup girly and haven't seen a tonne of makeup videos, I have noticed that in all the ones I've watched, nobody used powder foundation as a base for anything. Except the one person who puts powder foundation on first then covers that with liquid foundation, & surprise! She does it because it makes her makeup stay perfect all day!

I love the nostalgic feelings I get from your videos. You're an amazing creator and your editing skills are brilliant. (Btw, I'm a new subscrber.) I remember my grandma used to get McCall's, Good Housekeeping, and the Ladies Home Journal magazines. I was 11, 12, and 13, when I started devouring the design, and beauty tips. I remember one magazine had a big "How to be Glamorous" interview with Joan Crawford. It was included as a pull out section. I was absolutely obsessed. My grandma let me take it. I had it for years. The styles began to change, as did the make up and clothing. I remember at 14 having a beauty routine modeled after this. Always wearing moisturizer, giving myself manicures, pedicures bubble baths. It brought comfort having a routine.

Just a thought - maybe you'd be interested - if you use your foundation basically to cancel out the redness, maybe a green primer would be an even easier option for that? lately so many green primers, concealers and color correctors have come out - brands have been really putting focus on correcting your skin so you have to use as little coverage as possible. It's nice, I quite like this trend

I am the type of man that has always felt I should have been in that time frame.... missed it though.... I think that the 40's and 50's were a magical time. This country came together and had neighbors that you actually talked to and had real-life relationships with... Americana lost and that is sad. So, Kudos to you for you to bring it back!

I want to make it very clear: while I love the aesthetic and style snd many of the physical items from the 1940s and 1950s, I very much prefer to live in the modern age and would never want to go back to that time. I like technology, I like equality, and there was a LOT wrong with the way people of minority groups were treated back then. The aesthetic is great. I am obviously in a very traditional relationship that I love - because I chose that. But that’s it. Modernity and progress are in all other ways much preferable to living back then.

Do you remember the ones with brushes in them? They hurt to sleep on. My sister had an old firm teddy bear of mine she kept under her neck all night and slept on her back. (I still have that teddy, he would be 69 now.) Like one of those ancient Egyptian stone neck cushions the ladies slept on. Honestly, the things we did back in the '60s in the name of beauty. Those complicated up-dos all the interlaced curls.

I wish I had your hair. I have naturally curly hair, which means that if I even walk BY a brush, it will frizz and look horrid. I have to finger set my hair and only EVER brush it if it's fully wet and covered in conditioner. :( The upshot is that it never looks tidy, professional, or intentional. The words "curl clumps" are the bane of my life.

@@larkfly9273back when I was in my 20s and curling my mid length hair every night I found rollers gave me split ends. I started pincurling and would turn the pincurl with the ends outwards flat to my hair and Bobby pin across them making sure all the ends were held under the pin. Sometimes it meant two bobby pins in a cross X shape. Hope that helps. And I would very lightly spray it with a water plant sprayer once pinned, to help set the curls, if it was between washes.
