For those who have difficulty coming up with their own constraints/projects, one thing that really helped me was keeping a swipe file. That's when you save screenshots and clips from games, movies, comics, etc... that inspire you. Later, when it's time to come up with an idea, you can randomly browse through your clippings until something catches your eye, and use that as inspiration

Mhmmm. Not bad at all. Thank you :) It also could be helpful to look trough some books (WE all have those "how to..." books, whose examples we never really use, because its overwhelming^^), search for one example that "triggers" you and try to give it your own "touch".

I also made a habit to write notes of ideas that are coming in my mind when I'm outside and doing daily stuff...it helps a lot...now I have so many ideas and I don't stare at my blank paper anymore...now I have to many piece to finish (but one by one I draw them)

I've heard a lot that creative thoughts and ideas come from our memories. For example, I've been playing a lot of Ghost of Tsushima lately and when I was thinking of images or scenes in my head that I could try to draw, a lot of them were so similar or even identical to what I've seen and experienced in the game. So it might be a good idea to observe a big variety of pieces, so that you can improve your creativity.
@coragon422 жыл бұрын
That makes sense. After all, unless you're randomly scribbling, pretty much everything you draw comes from some psychological stew of memories.

Unfortunately, I have crap life syndrome! Gave up art due to family obligations and just dropped the will to be creative because life has just been too demanding, too stressful, too wrapped up in dead end underpaying jobs, too stressful, too much. I'm dying inside due to the lack of creativity and time, energy, to create. The last pieces of artwork was done in 2018-2019. It used to be something I couldn't live without, now it's something I can't even begin again. Man, you're living my dream... professional artist. This is the ONLY thing I've wanted since 4 years old, but it feels just out of reach. 😭

@rr.studios2 жыл бұрын
He's made multiple useful videos based on shading already (not that I don't want more 🤣) and it all comes down to mastering these: 1. Simple Shape Shading, 2. Ambient Occlusion Mastering simple shading is learning how to shade simple objects like spheres, cubes, cylinders, pyramids etc...This is EXTREMELY useful because it helps you simplify objects into easily drawn shapes that you can shade (e.g. your legs, tree trunks, fingers and telephone poles are easily simplifyable as cylinders for construction and shading). This simplicity helped me out when I was an absolute beginner to understand concepts like midtones, core shadow, bounce light etc... without being confused about what color or value I should make a part of the drawing look like... Ambient Occlusion is really amazing for getting that realistic look in your illustrations; This is basically shading in parts that will get the least amounts of light. I really don't think I explained it well but you can get more info from Marc himself by searching: "shade" in the search bar in his channel's videos section (if you're on a desktop device) or "marc brunet shade" if you're on mobile or can't see his channel search bar. Goodluck on your art journey! 🎨 👍
@PrinceJr-oj7sq2 жыл бұрын
@@rr.studios To state it a different way (i think): -the shadows formed on every surface that isn't directly facing the light source (e.g. palms facing camp fire; shadows on the back of the hands) VS -the shadows formed in crevices or on objects that have close proximity to each other, which trap the light, never allowing it to reach your eyes. (E.g. Shadows between the legs, around the groin area)

Talking about constraints, the games like Gartic Phone are an extremely good exercise to full-throttle and contest your creativity: you have the topic (a decoyed one or provided by friends), you have a limited palette and tools, limited time etc. So your mind is instantly cheated to try its best and create something either funny or beautiful, and after time passes you are seeing some improvement as you are learning to mobilize your creative skills.

The part about creativity bring sparked my restrictions: I've seen an old interview with the creators of the old LucasArts games. Nowadays you can draw everything with every color. But back then, they had to work around those restrictive color palettes, resolutions, and limited drawing programs. I loved those games. And i think that it really favors the creativity.

Can't think of something to draw or have an idea but don't know how to go about it? Become a "literal illustrator" and flesh out your idea with words on paper or your phone's notepad app. That way you have a written guideline on how to plan your drawing and when your reference gathering (or drawing from your head), you can use what you wrote down or brain stormed to have a clearer idea what you really want to draw! Yes, I don't have the most Ultra HD visions in my head (yet) but jotting it down on my notepad app what I can imagine helps alot!

One way that I make characters is, I get into something new, and I create a character based on my favorites from that fandom for the story I’m working on. Then, if and when I go back to those characters, that’s when I start diverging them from their inspiration. Sometimes I’ll even do one of those art challenges you see on Pinterest and leave it for a while. If I come back to it, and I like it, I’ll expound on it more. Ive even combined this method with one character in that I did a Pinterest challenge, put a few traits on him, and left him for a while. Then I found a storyline I really liked and eventually applied it to him and another character.

A little trick when you're really stuck : just imagine the most evident/simplest figure and then try to do the exact opposite but without making it look bad. For example, you must draw a superhero ? Just imagine the opposite of Superman. It can be a dark colored character, the cape may be inverted, etc. You'll get some ugly results but trying to make something good out of that will force your mind to start "the imagining machine". It's a way to warm up before going serious in the subject.

@bobxbaker2 жыл бұрын
something that also destroys creativity is the belief that you are not capable of drawing a specific thing so you just avoid doing it, believe that you can but that it might require some time to learn is key for this. that's how you start researching subjects you're weak on and practice them because only when you find a weakness is the only time you find room to grow and expand your creative mind. when nothing is off-limits you aren't restrained by your own skill to execute what you want.
