In this video I discuss what it would take to train to become Batman or a real life Bruce Wayne. What is a 'peak human' IRL? Can you really learn as many skills as Batman, while maintaining his incredible physical condition and going out fighting every night?
I approach the question in two ways: first, I examine what the closest you could come would be if you were willing to give up everything in pursuit of becoming The Bat (hey, it's your life!). I talk about accelerated learning, brain plasticity, supplementation and more. My conclusion is that while Batman's feats and skills vary from writer to writer, you could certainly come close if you were willing to go all in and become a kind of 'Bruce Lee meets Da Vinci'. But it would likely ruin your job, your relationships and your health and you wouldn't last very long...
For those with a passing interest in training to become more awesome though, I discuss alternative options: such as using meditation and supplementation to squeeze a bit more energy into the day and adding a 'skills workout' to your training regime for practicing the cooler stuff like flexibility, ambidexterity, rope climbing and archery. Because why not?
Anyway, it's just a bit of fun but Batman/Bruce Wayne are certainly inspiring figures and I like the way he represents the pinnacle of human accomplishment. To me, training is about taking on challenges and pushing your limits and Batman provides great inspiration for that. Plus, if aliens ever invade, you'll be set!
Check back here because I'm publishing the much more in depth article on becoming a real life Batman soon and I'll add the link here along with some others!
Thanks a ton for watching and don't forget to subscribe for more like this!

Batman, peak physical human condition, genius level IQ, speaks 30 languages, has mastered 127 martial arts styles, great detective, and experience and skill in all forms of detective work (forensics, puzzle solving, physiological motives, etc.) mastered almost every weapon known to man, speed reader, constantly power naps or micro sleeps, goes days without sleep etc. master strategist and has numbers of gadgets all designed to be small, compact, and sleek, even inputting them into his suit, amazing knowledge of pressure points and human weakspots allowing to hit hard in the right area and protect himself properly. Joe King Bruce would do his research before engaging in any training. He wouldn't just hop from one martial art to another, he would have a carefully designed plan, based on the known roots of each martial art and how some of them connect, in such a way that he would learn and master the techniques that had the most carry over to other arts first. He would quickly learn how to identify useless techniques and discard them, in order to be more effective. He would constantly challenge skilled fighters of each art, and he would dedicate a few hours to combine his skills from different schools, creating effective combos and testing them. As he transitioned from one art to another, there would be way less things to learn, and even fewer worth learning. I'm sure he wouldn't loose his time learning an art that wouldn''t add much to his skill book. If Aikido was a priority on his list, it would receive the attention it deserved. You have to understand this is a man with so much practice, knowledge and dedication that learning new motor skills would be routine. Finally, he wouldn't only learn from martial arts masters. He would seek special operations training too. He would also seek the best underground fighters he could find and train with them and against them. I'm willing to bet he would engage in illegal underground fights, implementing his wide array of skills against the most vicious people, without rules. This is the way I believe the Batman style of fighting would be born. He wouldn't need to think, he would react with whatever technique was the most appropriate to a certain situation based on experience and practice. He wouldn't need 127 martial arts under his belt, but his own style.

Your not wrong, it would be quick to learn other forms of say Karate after learning the first one to many similarities same for judo or bjj. Besides as they say there is nothing new in martial arts, most of the stuff coming out today is just a different spin on something that has been omitted from a current art.(i.e.) pre ww2 judo where there was still striking versus today's judo where they have stopped teaching strikes. Military systems are even easier due to the fact they will be stripped down of anything that is not effective, but the problem is also they are made to maim or kill, not for capturing. Now would he learn holds; yes from juijitsu or anything like that, but again only so many ways to do things. just my opinion.

I think an important consideration is that Batman's overall fitness/performance only needs to operate within a certain threshold in order to do the things Batman does. He wouldn't necessarily need to be performing at peak human potential 100% of the time, in fact for some villains/circumstances he may not need to. He may devote his time developing only the skills necessary to overcome the challenge in front of him... because that's what Batman does.

I think we can all universally agree that, currently, no human being can do what Batman does in the comics. Even the most dedicated and most seasoned Olympic athletes would simply pale in comparison to what Bruce Wayne has done. Let's face it. The man is strong enough to bench press more than 1000 pounds with no issue at all, while simultaneously possessing gymnastic skills so good that they'll make Simone Biles wet in her pants. Plus, he's fast enough to dodge and evade gunfire like it's second nature to him, and he's managed to walk away from physical damage that would severely injure, and even kill, any other human. To put it bluntly, if someone like Batman were to exist in real life, he or she would be the genetic freak among genetic freaks, and even that's underselling it a bit.

@@MeliorIlle the world record bench press is around 1000 pounds (quick google search puts it at 1075 lbs . If Batman's whole thing is that he performs at the extreme limits of human ability (seeing as he is the go-to example for Peak Human in DC), I don't think saying that can bench 1000 pounds is inaccurate. Whether or not he can bench that much without issue should be the point of contention.

@AdamSinicki 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah I guess you could say that :-P My wife would probably disagree... Lol not sure, he's supposed to eat something like 4,000+ calories a day so all of them would be pretty huge! He'd eat a ton of protein for all that training and he'd probably want a fair amount of carbohydrates just to supply the energy... Loads of everything!
@lankymcgainsplease1236
@lankymcgainsplease1236 7 жыл бұрын
For maintenance I would estimate Batman's macros to be: Protein: 230g Carbs: 570g Fats: 90g This is based on a 4000 kcal maintenance level and a bodyweight of 210lbs. Protein is slightly higher than I would recommend for a normal person due to the extra stress Batman's body goes through in training and fighting. Carbs are as high as possible for maximum energy while allowing fats to remain at the lowest possible healthy level. Everybody is different so Batman would have to adjust his macros based on energy levels and how he feels, but this would be a good starting point.

From what I know from the comics, he had been training his mind from 10 years old to prevent himself from ever being mind controlled, and to be as smart as possible. He started physically training himself when he was 11, starting with blood doping, and using machines and electric currents to increase his physical strength and endurance. He made sure his diet was sufficient with Alfred's help. Like you said, though, he had the amazing income to provide the resources for these.

The argument in the book _Becoming Batman_ is that Batman has essentially studied an advanced form of Ninjutsu, which incorporates Striking [hands, feet, knees, elbows, head,], Grappling, joint manipulation, mental discipline and weapons in various ranges. This to me makes more sense; Batman learning Ninjutsus basically means he has access to no fwere than 12-18 genres of specific technique, from Taijutsu body techniques [the various direct fighting arts] to 6 different, applicable weapon's schools [Bojutsu/stick fighting, shurikenjutsu/knife throwing, kenjutsu/swordfighting] other body techniques [Kopojutsu- bone breaking and healing] and skills in infiltration and espionage. I figure this would be batman's "base" art, especially considering it shows how there are variations of ninja techniques within different schools. Add to that some more power-based fighting styles [Muay Ty, Kyukoshin or Goju Karate, Hang Gar Kung Fu, Boxing], a speed style [Wu Shu, Kali] an adaptable style [Jeet Kun Do] and some form of CQC [Krav Maga, Special forces training] and he'd basically be covered in most _fighting_ aspects. That still doesn't take into account the other disciplines such as body control, pain tolerance, escape artistry and the other skills like driving, acrobatics, hang gliding, rapelling etc which he'd need to complete his purely physical skills set. Then of course, there are the *mental* disciplines... This video here gives a good account of his fighting techniques, at least. kzbin.info/www/bejne/omS7iX9nl7BgnLc

I do have a bit of a note here. I don't usually do youtube comments and for those who may disagree I do not usually read these so just save your time but I do have just a food for thought comment. I do study martial arts quite passionately and one way Batman could learn so many different styles is by what I have called a bleed over effect. Both my senseis have talked about this. In simple terms it is this. The human body only has so many variations it can move or move another body in combat. Many different martial arts actually teach very similar techniques with only slight variations. Punches, kicks, grapples, conditioning are not as different as you may think. Take boxing, which will teach you how to punch very well. Lets say you box for a while and get good at it but may want to learn say Ju Jitsu. Well you do the classes and the sensei starts to go over punching but because you have that boxing experience, your punching is already going to be good and will need very little to no work adjusting to the new style. This is how Batman can learn so many styles. Lets say he stared with a well rounded set like a variation of Kung Fu for offensive techniques, Ju Jitsu for ground work and grappling, and lets say a wrestling/boxing combo for conditioning and aggressive combat training. Well if he were to go all out as Batman does and master all these disciplines and lets say it takes him a ton of time like normal lets say 5 years if he went all out and did nothing else. Well now the skills he learned in these styles will translate very well into any other style he may try and he will have to spend significantly less time learning that style because he already knows a lot of prior techniques and the human body can only move or fight in a certain way. So if he were to go to learn maybe Karate or MMA, he would already know how to punch, kick, grapple, condition, do combos, etc based on the prior knowledge and would only need to dedicate time to learning the specific variations based on more advanced techniques and considering his prior knowledge that would take far less time. So to say he knows all of them yah is farfetched just because like mentioned the world of martial arts is constantly evolving and everyone can come up with their own variation. But to say he knows 127 may not be as impossible when considered. Because after you've learned 3-5 well rounded martial arts then you have the ability to learn more and more quickly so it wont take years or 10,000 hours to master a new discipline because maybe 7,000 of those hours is stuff you already know. Like I said. I don't read these nor do I normally write them so save yourself the trouble if you disagree. I'm putting this more out there for food for thought. Anyway have a good day on the interwebs.

When referring to Bruce Wayne's skills in the Martial Arts, it's true that no one could learn all of them. At least, not separately. During the years that he spent overseas, he was pretty much "off the grid" for several years because he was visiting remote places...Those few places where the root-core of all martial arts styles originated. He learned not only how to recognize the many styles that exist today, but can also counter against them while mixing & matching the styles. In effect, he knows the branches because he knows the roots of the whole tree. But above all, if Bruce Wayne has any "super powers" at all, it was the wealth he inherited...With his wealth, he did not have to waste time or effort on providing for his basic living, like food, clothing or shelter that can consume most others. He could travel to where he wanted, afford the colleges he wanted, the wealth of the Wayne Foundation already provided him with with connections & contacts so that he could find anything or anyone he wanted. Wealth is indeed its own super power, which is how Tony Stark could become Iron Man. But if you take away Stark's suit & the wealth/resources to make another suit, he's just an ordinary, average person. Bruce Wayne without Batman's gadgets & vehicles is still an extremely formidable human being.

In respect to Batman and knowing "all" the martial arts, I can tell you that you have to take a few points under consideration when it comes to Batman fighting. One, is that there is no one martial art that is better or the best. But can become familiar with a few and know some defensive counter moves. Also, there was something that Ben Affleck said about training for the Batman role and it was this, "I trained until I built this muscular body, then I took it one step further and created this Brawler like body". This would tell you that Batman had the bulk to take an initial hit from a martial artist and then adjust--never mind that he would have to do this while encountering a meta-human. Also if you look at Batman v Superman he was taking a beating as he was giving one. Also take under consideration that all the thugs he encounters during the night while on patrol were not martial artist.

Another thing that always gets me about Batman is that he has insane stamina. Think about it, we literally never see the man pant or sweat unless the author/writer/animator really wants to make a point of showing how beat down, broken or just old he is, and that’s one of the craziest aspects of him to me

Adam Sinicki How do you find the motivation to train the way Batman would. I have a schedule planned out, but it is very hard to keep motivated considering all the distractions. I want to train 7 hours a day with the Dymaxion sleeping schedule and develop a photographic memory, but I can barely do everyman and keep motivated to finish my daily learning goals. I'm 15 years old by the way. How can I find the Iron Willpower that Batman had?

The reality is if Batman would have really undergone all the training that is speculated for him to have went through he would not only be Peak human but he would be far beyond any regular ordinary man he would be borderline superhuman. He'd be doing the kind of things that you see Captain America doing or even on a level higher than that, people in the special forces come close to a Batman level but they're not even the most developed or cultivated people in the world. People in different societies isolated from what we would call modern civilization do all kinds of paranormal things and reach states that are seemingly unattainable. Batman's character is used to inspire the fact that there is no limit to which the human body can be worked without the writers really depicted how borderlinely superhuman he would actually be to keep him relatable to everyday people, that's the appeal of his character although it's not rooted in total fact. Batman has developed many powers to become who and what he is that just aren't seemingly blatant physical superpowers but they're extraordinary life skills and internal developments that are actually useful in the everyday world and make you seemingly unstoppable in real life. He has the power of internment, he has the power of ultra and altruistic character, he has the power of omnidimensional personality, he has the power of variety, hyper analysis, adaptability, indomitable will, superhuman genius, ambidextry, combat expertise, abnormal athleticism, infinite patience, incorruptability, unpredictability etc the list goes on these traits are just overlooked in the fictional Universe because they seem to pale in comparison to Godlike beings. Batman is no slouch and a very attainable goal in this world or the fictional one.

Batman is a metahuman because his physical abilities defy the laws of physics or the laws of physics are different in the BvS/Nolan Universe at which point it doesn't matter whether Wayne is human or not. Example BvS Universe. Saving Martha Scene: Throws guy into wall while remaining stationary himself (Batman would have to weigh over 400 lbs in order to remain stationary as he picks up and generates sufficient torque to throw the victim into the wall). Note: If he had 'super grippy boots' then the torque would transfer to the wood flooring and rip the flooring to pieces. Punches guy so hard that the victims head smashes into the wood flooring (He would break a bone in hand, wrist, arm or dislocate a knuckle generating that much force). Impaling guy with grapple gun and then pulling the victim through the air for an elbow punch (Batman would have to weigh over 400 lbs in order to remain upright as the grapple gun generates enough force to pull the 180 lbs victim through the air). Batman vs Doomsday: The speed at which the grapple gun pulled batman off the ground onto a building and off the side of the building would dislocate a shoulder. Remember this is a 240 lb object going from 0-80 mph instantly. The Nolan Universe is a little less unrealistic than the BvS but one quick error in TDK where Batman goes flying off a building to save his love who was just dropped by the Joker. The batsuit could not prevent his organs from turning into mush as he landed on top of the car because his organs were moving at the same velocity as his body and would impact against his rib cage.

Another aspect that this video does not address about becoming Batman is that it's a path of which there are very many ways to attain. The general concept behind Batman is someone whose a jack of all trades, but a master of very few to none and there are literally billions of people walking around in the world who fit that criteria from all walks of life. A person wouldn't have to do the exact methods for the exact amount of time that the comics or different media has depicted Bruce Wayne doing to become Batman in order for them to become like this character, that level of prowess is attainable in a variety of circumstances.

Now in my mid-60's, I have no interest in training like Batman, or the entire Batman persona for that matter, but I am definitely interested in optimizing my health and fitness. The Bioneer video series has been very interesting for me, including looking at training from some different points if view, for example, the importance of hanging. Obtaining the sweet spot between training and optimal recovery is important for a 'senior' body as I have no need to be excessively sore or injured! Keep producing the videos - there is something in these videos for everyone, and the content of the videos challenges all of us to expand our concepts of fitness and training.

What people keep forgetting is that Bruce Wayne is literally a genius. His brain can process things much faster than the average human. He may very well be able to observe a technique and instantly master it. The same way geniuses quickly absorb the information they're taught in school and test out of a class, Batman could be doing the equivalent with martial arts training. With his obsessive training style and genius mind, it's very possible that Bruce Wayne could've mastered an entire martial art, after only a couple of weeks training in that particular style. However, I personally believe that Bruce Wayne went the Bruce Lee route: research your own experience, keep what is useful, discard what is useless, and add what is essentially your own. In other words, I believe Bruce Wayne was exposed to 127 different martial arts (through both his instructors' teachings & the various opponents with whom he sparred), kept the techniques that worked for him personally, got rid of the techniques that didn't work for him, and added the "theatricality & deception" for which The Batman is known. #JeetKuneDo

Hey, man, I wanted to share some things with you... I am a fifth dan in Taekwondo, but I moved to Thailand a few years ago where the only adult striking in town is Muay Thai and Wado-kai. So last year I finished doing Muay Thai and have been training in Wado (Otsuka lineage, I think). It's fascinatingly different from. TKD (Korean Shotokan, but you didn't hear that from me) and it's grappling is very judo-like. I'm only a 7th kyu, but I hope to go test for a dan. Anyway, would love to see your martial arts! Second, the sleeping thing is a bit misleading. Those polyphasic sleep schedules aren't ideal for learning. The best way to cent learning is sleeping right hours after you attempt to memorize info. Physical recovery also requires REM sleep according to all research. It is very unlikely that polyphasic sleep confers a benefit for physical skill, strength, or intellectual value. And hey, do you know whatBatman would be if he consistently trained and learned just four martial arts to proficiency and one to mastery? 40. What he would be is 40. Also, consider that he may do roids!

Batman's martial arts thing is a bit tricky to look at. He most likely learnt a few core systems and then picked up substyles in bits. For example, he knows how to wrestle, but he probably learnt some greco roman, some sumo, some mexican etc. Also some of the stuff listed in his martial arts includes parkour, which isnt a martial art in the conventional sense.

Hey man! Seems like you really took the time to make this video and just wanted to give you my personal thoughts. I'd personally say that for the martial arts aspect you should learn BJJ, Boxing, Muay Thai and Wrestling/Judo. On top of that it is a good idea to add in a martial art that focuses on weapons. You would definitely want to train full body or upper lower with an undulated or concurrent periodization with a mix of compound movements and gymnastics. As for cardio it would definitely have to be a variety or different things with an emphasis on running and swimming which would make it very hard to excel at when you're trying to become stronger AND a skilled fighter. All in all I would have to say it is impossible but a fun target to shoot for!

Both Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson used(probably still use) the equivalent of a "safe steroid" developed by Wayne Tech. It was during the mid to late 90's if I remember correctly. It had slighty less effect than regular steroids, but none or little of the drawbacks. I mean, if i was a billionaire businessman who also was planning on being Batman, i'd probably try to push the med field with that as well.

Just because it stops the hit doesn't mean the force is stopped. The highest end motorcycle crash gear you can get still won't save you if someone cracks you with a BFH (big fluffy hammer), just like the best bullet resistant materials won't save you if you take a shotgun at point blank range. It can stop all the bullets sure, but the force will still cause massive damage to your bone structure and internal organs. Lets not even start on the force he takes using the grapple gun and ripping himself up buildings at the speeds he does. And if you're wearing the best impact gear and the best ballistic gear, you won't be going ANYWHERE fast or for any long duration

There are real masters out there who are great at a wide variety of martial arts. Yes, it involves some cross-training, but really it's more about studying the arts to a depth that most do not discover. When you can do this, you do master every martial art, all at once, figuratively speaking. This means that what you master is the principles of motion, anatomy, physiology, psychology, and energy. Once those are mastered, then all the martial arts feel like the same, just different points of emphasis on certain types of motion -- and once you develop the mind to see motion easily, then it all starts feeling like a simple matter. However, this kind of mastery also means growing a wisdom to know what things not to waste time on. Higher level martial arts requires more relaxation than tension, so some methods that rely too much on tension become deemphasized (like a muay thai kick), so you don't care to keep all martial arts related skills at an equally high level. DK Yoo would be an example of what I speak of. As far as the Uber-Man theory, I think it is ridiculous. It doesn't take into account that when your body and mind are exhausted after training, studying, and work, you need to rest for long chunks. Your body will make you. Plus, what, when Batman was training with all these different masters and experts would they sleep all night while Batman would awkwardly stay up all night training? What is much more likely is Batman is just like other dedicated polymaths (Benjamin Franklin, Averroes, etc) and just is very good at learning very quickly by recognizing patterns across different fields, learning what to focus on in training and what to ignore, so as to learn very quickly when it would take most others years to learn.

You hit good points but here's the thing when rage and desire are your motivation and yes you have billions of dollars then there is not much to stop you. To be Batman though is beyond that. He basically has computer knowledge hacker like, he has police knowledge and homicide detective understanding. He is trained in multiple styles of Martial Arts predominately uses more of a true krav maga style on the street an a judo approach. To the league he uses a more karate or wing chun approach. He's built to the physical peak of human possibility and depending on the series your watching he is even an inventor and designer of his own weapons and armors. Finally along with strength he is the full aerobatic expert as well as escape artist.

I will write it here, despite the Batman video has been around for some time. Quite ago, i tried myself to figure out Batman training. I decided at first wich martial arts he should have studied (never bought that crap about "127 martial arts to perfection"...), and then i was helped by this site maroonersrock.com/2012/10/the-martial-arts-of-batman/ wich is really eye-opening, and does truly make sense. Then i established a routine he should have followed: -from 10 (when his parents died) to 15 yrs: studied all the literature, maths and physics up to high school level, become good at athletics, artistic gymnastics (huge help for next to come), escapism, logic tests, some sports (skiing, scuba diving, parachuting), and boxing; -from 15 to 25 yrs travelled the world to study martial arts and other stuff, all the while attending college via correspondance course. Ok, it does not make MUCH sense, but let's say that he spent 16 hours a day, ANY day, divided in 8 hours of martial arts and 8 hours of study. That would still leave him 8 hours to rest and eat, wich is more than enough, and equally important. He's also a natural genius, 180 I.Q. with photographic memory, and the luck of being 6'2", and mesomorph; -therefore, he could have studied like 10 martial arts, and, if you consider it takes 7 years to get a Black Belt at, let's say, karate, generally training 4 hours a week, for 40 weeks at year, that will make roughly 1600 hours of study for a black belt, wich means that one year of practice, for 8 hours a day, any day, is something along the line of 2900 hours. So, he's at Ni-Dan level in 10 different martial arts, considering also each new one would be progressively easier to learn, and that he spontaneously combine them together; -and finally, also studying the other 8 hours a day, any day, for 10 years, being a natural genius, COULD have gotten him to get a degree in 2 years, instead of 3-4, wich means 5 degrees at the time he came back to Gotham. If i'm not mistaken, some databooks says Law, Economy, Mechanical Engineering, Criminal Psichology and Computer Technology; -oh, and i forgot he must have also learnt 8-10 languages, but i suppose he just mastered the language of any country he came to, plus a pair more; So, yes, becoming Batman is somewhat POSSIBLE, Bruce COULD have done something like that

TheGoogler77 Crap, i thought it worked. It divided martial arts for range and scope -long range: Shotokan Karate, Savate, Capoeira; -medium range: Goju Ryu Karate, Muay Thay, Panantukan (Philipino boxing), Boxe; -grappling: Judo/JuJitsu, Sambo, BJJ for ground work; -weapons: fencing, ninjutsu (all the samurai/ninja weaponry), kali (sticks, knives); probably i'm missing something but these are the main ones.

Also, it's implied in the comics Bruce became much better at anything by continuing to train and experimenting during his "active" Batman years. Even if he didn't have so much spare time, considering he divided himself between corporation business, his fake playboy life, and crimefighting (wich includes also time spent in Justice League, and training Robin). I suppose he continued experimenting with martial arts, improving his personal style, adding something else, like some chinese styles and concepts, and also perfected his detective ability, that he mastered almost exclusively during his active career, to the point he became the world's greatest detective. Lucius Fox still provides much of the gadgets, but Bruce certainly knows how to at least repair the tech and the batmobile, and how to hack computers at world class levels, he must also have created an archive of infos about anything that ever happened to him and the Justice League. Being Batman isn't an accomplishment, is a lifetime work

Hey, love your videos, have you ever considered periodized training? It could help with becoming/maintaining super functional abilities….

Keysi (kee-see) has not been abandoned. It has evolved twice since then (to defense lab and then now to Tritac), just like every martial art. It’s one of the best for modern day self defense. Best arts to learn in the pursuit of modern survival: Tritac or Krav Maga or Systema With Brazilian Jiu Jitsu And Wing Chun Boxing would be a great addition to this plan

He had great strength relative to his bodyweight. His absolute strength was pretty unimpressive.

Many people could claim that title, but at least in my definition, a peak human must supersede every known physical records in every criteria. There are powerlifters and strongmen who can lift more than Bruce Lee, and there's Usain Bolt, who is the fastest runner, and there are also fastest swimmer, people who can catch BB pellets, hardest punch etc. As far as I know, achieving peak human status through conventional means is almost impossible, but people can specialize in one area.

Mickey G I don't recall, does Batman have the non-superhuman records in every criteria? Or is he just supposed to be around equal to the best? Is he the smartest man in the whole DC Universe? As well as the most agile, strong, et cetera? I don't think that is the case but I am not 100% sure.

all the training is for naught unless you can take a punch. You need to mix it up with different fighters to see if you can take a hit.

Randy Coutoure's training seems to have proven he's altered his metabolism so he doesn't produce much lactic acid and has no muscle fatigue which sounds very applicable, and if I caught details correctly this is done with very high rep exercises, not purely those but a large amount of them over-all.
