I just need to thank you because you corrected something for me as far as my breathing goes. My last teacher told me that when I breathe out my stomach should go in and it didn’t make any sense to me because my stomach naturally went out…. So thank you because finally I know that I’m breathing correctly 😊

Do you think patti labelle is one of the best belters? I hear mix feelings from people about her they say she just yell alot so what is your thought about her abilities?
@indieartistschool4 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting question. Hmmm, technique-wise, I think she's pretty solid. I haven't heard anyone say she's yelling. But, you know, belting is not something every listener likes to hear. But for those that do, I think it's fair to say Patti Labelle is good at what she does and is admired by many!

@Devon Hawkins-Anderson Well said! I agree.

Patti Labelle isn't just one of the best belters...She's IMO the greatest vocalist period. Her sweet head voice, chest belts, range and her unexpected note choices will caress or grab your soul at any given moment. Anyone that knows what they are talking about would not describe her singing as yelling. People need to understand that power does not equate to bad singing and neither does grit equate to bad singing. Singers have different tones in the same way that instruments do. A trumpet will never sound like a flute....but that doesn't make a trumpeter a bad player. People are too quick to think that if your voice isn't clean and Whitney-like, it's bad singing, but this is wrong. Great singing comes from how you use the voice you have, to emote and make people feel.

Hey! I've been taking vocal lessons for two years almost now, but I havent been able to figure out the best way to enter the mix. I can blend in flag, but my tone isnt the best & it isn't the most efficient. I've been trying to figure out how to add more narrowing & twang to have a heavier chest mix. Any exercises you recommend for that? And for tone development, what would you advise I do? I want a sound similar to Harry Styles, Ryan Tedder, Niall Horan, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Brendon Urie, and Shawn Mendes. I also want R&B riffs and runs and to be able to have a floaty sound like Jason Derulo and Bruno Mars.

hi, i have taken classical singing lessons for so long and to be honest, i can't sing in mix voice like i always want. however, my goal is to sing pop song and belt all the high notes just like adele, lady gaga or ariana grande. i can only sing in chest voice for low notes and flip into head voice for high notes, i literally don't have any connection between these 2 registers which i know we call it's the mix voice. when i ask my classical singing teacher about how to get the mix voice like all the pop singers did, she said i will get this voice one day and all i need is patience but how can i get that voice if everyday i just sing and practice in all head voice?? so do you think i should continue learning classical singing method if my goal is pop singing? thank u for reading this long! hope to hear from u soon!

The techniques to belt in high mixed are quite different from singing in head voice in classical. We have exercises and training we coach our students through who have belting as a goal. I recommend you look into our 1:1 coaching & mentorship program here: www.indieartistschool.com

Mixed voice is not something you ‘get one day’ it’s something you already have but need to be coached properly on how to utilize it
