Some advice with windows. Just teach them what a window is, bring them up to it and show them they can't go through it, it works with my birds and they don't fly into it Also, birds have very weak respiratory systems so don't use any kind of air fresheners in the room or use perfumes around them, that goes along with the toxic fumes Some things the video didn't mention, I notice that people look at these videos while they have a bird or wanting to get one, might as well add extra information for those looking through the comments:)

My two male budgies live in a cage that is opened 90% of the daytime (I'm closing the cage when I'm opening the windows). They fly in the house all of the time and I never had any problems with them. I have plants, windows, cables etc. For some reason they only choose couple of places for them to land - like staircase, the couch and paintings on the wall. All other stuff they avoid, they fly around a lot during the day, frequently getting back to a cage as their base and of course they land on my head, shoulder etc. I guess I just got lucky with them.
@BudgieWorld4 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of hazards that are enough to cover at first until your budgies get used to the house and know to avoid them, like windows would be a great example, and for that matter you didn't get lucky, your budgies just know your home pretty well. However there are some things we just can't afford a mistake to happen, like: frying food and your budgie land there, this would be just a horrible accident that cannot be fixed (unlike crashing to a window)

The problem is the budgie tends to fly around get stuck behind the radiators, the closet, tv.. Also his feet at the top of the curtain. I've had to move the damn closet twice last month, and he's giving me heart attack every time he lands on tv because it's mounted on the wall and has got a very small gap so if he falls in there we can't get him out.. He already freaked out when we tried to save him from behind the radiator. He currently remains locked inside his cage which I'm not feeling good about. But better safe then sorry, right? I wanna give him the free time where he can fly around but he just can't seem to learn the places he has to avoid.. I'm probably doing something wrong, I'm not sure what.

you either have to cover all the dangerous places you just said, or and that what I would do, just find a room where you can let him fly in with a closed door so your bird can't fly in all the house with all these dangers around.

i havent let my budgies out in a few months because my living room, kitchen, and dining room are all connected and dont have doors that protect my birds going downstairs and upstairs so i want to let them out in my bedroom witch is a decent size but i dont really know what to do. Im planning on covering my bed with like garbage bags or just anything and then leaving the birds cage in the room for an hour or so so they can get used to the environment and then taking off the top of the cage so they could come out on their own. I have a male and female budgie, the female is a little scared of me but i guess ill keep my distance when i let her out and my male budgie who isnt scared of me and isnt finger trained. The thing is the last time i had let out my male budgie he was flying into walls and looked like he didnt really know what he was doing and then he fell behind the couch so i scooped him up and then put him back in the cage. I dont know what happened and why he was doing that so i never let them out again due to my fear of them getting hurt. But since my room isnt that big and not too small for them i feel like letting them out here is a much better option than letting them out in my huge living room. I would feel so to blame if one of them had gotten hurt so i want to know what to do to prepare before letting them out, how to safely let them out, and what to do with my male budgies flying into walls problem because im very concerned about that. If anyone can help me i would very much appreciate it.

make sure you don't have any house plants. some release toxic fumes, others can kill your bird if they chew on the leaf.

A lot of house plants are safe for birds. And even healthy.

Place their cage outside, make posters about your bird, ask your neighbours (if you can) if they saw anything, look on websites for any budgies that have been found. I hope they come back safe

Get some wood wrapped in aluminium sheet if needed and close those gaps, also if the bird flies over and crashes, open spaces behind places where dust and spider webs are overseen or unreachable to clean form a high danger and have to be closed.

@@lahorekebab3845 I would never think it's a good idea to have your bird living in a cage it's whole life, so no. Not a stupid idea. This person is just trying to making their home safe for their bird

Just don’t even have those blue bleach things in your toilet. Even if you leave your toilet seat down, a guest or someone watching your house can leave the seat up and kill your bird while you’re away. Why chance it? Are you so lazy that you can’t spray some bleach in there? My friend was away having her baby and her house sitter left the toilet seat up and killed her pet who drank from the toilet with one of those bleach tablets in it and ever since then I caution everyone not to use them please
