This was great! Tips for any other hair bleachers out there - if you've got ever-so-slightly darker roots after bleaching (like Jacynda does), when you're toning it apply the toner only to the roots for the first 20 minutes then drag it through the ends for the last five. It will give you a slightly more even result. :)

A few tips from a cos student. You can use a lower developer in the back than in the front so that the back doesn’t process as fast while you’re working on the front. Also try not to use over 20 vol. when you know it’s going to touch the scalp and make sure the lightener is safe for on scalp application. To help the bleach not dry out place a processing cap, plastic bag or plastic wrap over the bleach to trap in heat and moisture. But great job best at home bleach video I’ve seen☺️
@mysticgamer87832 жыл бұрын
What would you recommend for the back? 10 is just for deposit though, isn't it? (Genuine question)
@Dagian_Jade Жыл бұрын
@@mysticgamer8783 Late reply-- just found this video. @ A. Marie... Has FABULOUS advice. 🎯 The volume of developer you use depends on several issues: the current level of your hair color (#1- #9); Virgin vs. previous colored hair; the Condition of your hair; & how Much you want to lift it. I'd also add how sensitive your scalp is, and if you have any skin allergies. I buy "Sensitive Scalp" developer if I'm even within an inch of my scalp; but anything #30 volume & over can burn my scalp if I leave it on more than 5 minutes. Oh, and wrap your neck in plastic wrap if you even suspect the bleach might touch your neck- even with foils. I know of a professional Cosmetologist who burned her neck bleaching her hair by herself at home. People discount Chemical Burns, but they're more dangerous than Sunburn. For at home jobs with non-professionals, I'd also consider how long & thick your hair is, & how much hair you want to lift (i.e. a whole head vs. highlights/balayage)... because HOW LONG it takes to get the developer on your head is really important. I.E.... If you know your hair lifts super easy, but it's gonna take you @ 60 minutes to get all your sections finished (saturated); then you're going to have to wash out sections as you go, or you'll have multiple levels of lift! Or try using a low volume developer (like #10 Volume) in the back. It's always safer to use a lower volume developer, because it may be a pain to do your hair more than once-- it's safer than going too light or damaging your hair. And, the ULTIMATE TIP... Do your roots last, because the heat exuded from your head/scalp will speed up the lifting process. (Brad Mondo watchers have had this drilled into their brains for years, so hopefully no one gets "hot roots"). 🙃 As a natural, dark brunette, I have to triple process my hair over several days to get it blonde without it falling out or looking brassy. Most reputable salons will recommend this process as well, if your hair is very dark or in "iffy" condition; and warn clients it might take several visits to get their hair the color they want-- or if it's not feasible at all to get the color they want. For me, the length of time of application is very important, because I have LONG, SUPER-THICK hair and it takes forever to saturate it completely. Especially if I'm doing it at home, and then go back and cross-check it to make sure I don't miss any spots, or end up with banding. (Which is really easy to do when you're trying to color the back of your head- and even using multiple mirrors). Lol So, caution story... A college friend of mine is a natural level #8, and decided to "save money" by "highlighting" her waist length hair- at home- before her wedding. V.E.R.Y. B.A.D. M.O.V.E. So, she purchased a boxed "LIGHTENING" kit from Wally World. Now, I'm not sure if the kit included Volume #20 developer to be add to the powder bleach; but I'm assuming it was #30 volume, since it was a "Super-Blonde" kit. (??). So, she and her BFF started coloring her hair using foils; but since they didn't know what they were doing, and the gal's hair was so long... It took @ 1.5 hours to complete the job. Since the box said to leave the color (i.e. bleach) on for an hour, they left it on for "an hour" from the time they finished. So, the back was left on twice as long. Now, developer does stop lightening hair at a certain point-- so if the kit says "leave it on a maximum of 60 minutes), leaving it on for 4 hours isn't going to lighten it 4x as much. AND, the developer must stay "wet" to continue lightening. Thus, wetting the inside of the Processing Cap before putting it on; because once it dries out, processing stops. But... back to the story... these 2 gals never checked their foils to see how it was lightening. So, the back "highlighted sections" had become platinum blond, while the front was varying shades of brassy blonde. That is... the pieces that hadn't broken off. She ended up loosing about a foot of hair! I sent her to my "Blonde Guy" at his fancy salon in ATL. I don't trust most people with an extreme color process-- or to fix "at-home, botch jobs": especially ones this bad with a wedding coming up. 😉 But, this was also 25 years ago, when folks didn't have internet access, or KZbin for hair tutorials. We are lucky today that we have such a plethora of information at our fingertips. A good KZbinr who colors her hair at home is "AKA AISLINN." She actually is famous for her "Rainbow Colored Hair;" but she lifts her hair to Platinum and demonstrates how she bleaches it by herself. She even has a video called "How I Bleach the Back of my Head." Anywho... hope some of these tips, and my experience, helps. Good luck!

Awesome method. The section you bleached last is the one you tone first to make up the slightly lesser lift and deposit more pigment. Also if you have roots that big you should start in the cold zone 1cm away from your very root. Then go back when everything’s almost done. That way you get no gold bands

It's a pretty easy science. Bleach your hair, tone, wait a couple weeks and treat your hair, bleach again and tone, then treat your hair again. Repeat the process until you get the desired shade. Only you know the health of your hair, so if you decide to do it yourself, be careful with how strong of a bleach you use. I would not advise you to go over 30 volume. Just keep repeating the process until you get where you need to be. The toners will take care of the undertone colors like green, yellow, orange and red. Just make sure you use a right toner. You can use a permanent hair dye as a toner so the next time you bleach, those undertones won't come back. I've had a lot of experience with this by myself and I'm actually doing this process again right now. I dyed my hair red 3 months ago and I used a dye remover a few days ago and I was left with blonde and orange hair, so today I bleached it with a 30 vol Manic Panic bleach and now it's completely platinum blonde, but I still have those pesky undertones, so I'm going to tone it with Revlon Ash platinum blonde. The Ashy color to it should remove those undertones in my hair as well as my purple shampoo, conditioner and spray. Coconut oil is amazing if you apply it before bleaching and after. I'm not a professional, I've just been dying my hair since I was 12 and my mom had to also dye my hair when I was 4-6 due to lice. So, I pretty much grew up with this stuff. I've never had any bad accidents and the only thing that I did wrong when I was younger was uneven application which made the color in my hair patchy lol Now I let my husband apply bleach and dye with instruction on how to apply it and set it up. I do the rest when it comes to taking care of my hair. I use all kinds of natural oils, conditioners and butters for my hair to grow thick, long, strong and shiny. So I don't really stick to one or two products lol. I use many different kinds on different days so my hair gets a variety of benefits. I treat my hair like it's a living being. Like how you'd give your plants good fertilizer and change it when need be. So yeah, don't kill your beautiful hair when you do things like this. Your hair will thank you and give you what you want if you take care of it.

How come the undertones won’t come back when you use permanent dye?
@maddiebyfaith4 жыл бұрын
@@CosmeticFanatic Because when you use a permanent dye, it's permanent. Temporary dyes wash out and therefore don't stay in the hair follicle. The color from a permanent dye can fade over time, but it doesn't get out unless you use a color remover or bleach and then after you get your hair to the shade you want, but you have undertones, you can use a toner which permanent dye can be used for. You just need to know what tones to use to combat your undertones. If you have orange undertones, a blue toner or semi permanent dye can combat it out. Just leave it on for five to ten minutes depending on how dark your undertones are. If your undertones are yellow, then purple will combat it. You can research a color wheel when you arrive to taking care of undertones when it's time to do so. Just look at the color your undertones are and directly across from it will be the color that will get rid of it.
@CosmeticFanatic4 жыл бұрын
@@maddiebyfaith Thank you so much, Madison Lopez! Could I ask you another question- if I bleach my hair and leave about an inch of the roots virgin brown; could I add blue toner to my ends to cancel the orange and a brown toner on my roots to blend nicely into the ends? I guess I would have to repeat this toner process weekly since I wash my hair everyday and I guess the toner would wash out. I don't think I'd want to use a permanent dye since I would like the option to change colours in the future, I guess! And then in another month or two I guess I could bleach again if I'd like to go blonder. Would this work?

Jeanine Morgan For wella you use the whole bottle of toner. For the 20 developer into the toner it’ll say on the back of the toner what the ratio of toner to developer is. For example the brand wella says 2 parts 20 developer to each 1 toner, so you’re putting double the developer of the amount of toner you’re mixing. So there would be 1 part toner 2 parts 20 developer.

A good thing to note about the toner you’re using, first it is a permanent color which typically you want a semi permanent color. Also to use the t18 your hair needs to be very light, if you don’t lift your hair light enough this toner will do nothing or very minimal toning.

u did an awesome job at explaining the process. only thing I personally suggest is limit your convo in the beginning. getting to the process almost took to long for attention span. but after u did it was on point!!! kuddos girl!

You are so gorgeous! I always have a major issue with sectioning. I always end up overlapping, and my ends just snap off. It is so frustrating. Thank goodness for my extensions, but still my hair is so broken that the little pieces end up getting fried. When I try to section my hair I always miss spots, it's so frustrating.

I am not contradicting anything you are saying, as you are a professional. I've actually been doing my own hair for about five years now and a few others, I'm not a professional. However, I've always found that when bleaching my hair (natural level two), 30 volume developer is the only developer that works best with me. Luckily for me, my hair has not fallen out. Have you found that lower volumes still help with pulling and lifting colors in darker hairs? I've always been told higher volumes are better with darker hair. Right now, my roots are in and the bleached is dyed over but a lot of that color has faded and now my hair is like three different shades LMAO. But I want to do a color similar to this but more shadowy and more of lowlights.

I've done that and used Wella toners and always end up back at the salon. Learned my lesson one too many times. I wish i could get it like that ! The orange for me doesn't seem to tone out as well as yours does. Even bought the more expensive "blondor", didn't help !

Thankyou for this post! With coronavirus I cannot get to the hairdresser and my poor husband has had to help me blonde the roots of my hair - your video is the best instruction I have seen and was very helpful.

I wish I had found this video earlier! I bleached my hair last night but it wasn’t easy. My hair is messy now but it’s ok I stay away from people at least 6 ft. Haha! I can’t wait for my second challenge. Thanks!!

Looks nice You are the only one I've seen mention that 'Toner is supposed to go on damp hair', good job! (I've watched at least 10 so far) What type of Shampoo & Conditioner do you use on the daily? Heat protectant?

wow this lady is really really good at putting on make up, and overall looks amazing with the really light silver hair, thanks for showing process and humble to show no make up, the before after is great. I wish more ladies up in seattle would wear make up, ugh, haha (is that a seattle thing to be anti make up? I don't know)
