Adam: “I’m going to keep you fed and we’re going to get you strong right now.” This is beautiful and I wish I’d heard this 20 years ago. I spent so many years (in my teens and 20s) reducing calories and doing tons of cardio trying to lose weight, and I yo-yo’d for a long time. Looking back now, I can see just how much I did to work against my body instead of with it, but since Oct 5th, 2021 (almost a year ago) when I started true resistance training for the first time, I finally felt like I’m working with my body, and I am glad to say I am being fed and getting stronger. And I honestly cannot believe how much my metabolism has sped up! I know it is in large part due to the wealth of information and advice I’ve gotten from Mindpump. Thank you guys so much.

Word. The teens and twenties are like that. There’s new problems in our forties and up. I lose weight to make my legs look great. Now my ribs look gaunt. So I gain weight to look healthy, now my thighs look unfit. So i try to grow huge leg muscles and intercostals. Whatever. If I’m not always moving, my body doesn’t have a pump. I’ve decided i might just have to have chubby thighs or a scrawny chest. But i can’t choose which is worse. So i just look meh.

I highly recommend getting a DEXA scan. I’ve been strength training for 3 months. I started the process by getting my blood work done and a dexa scan. My second scan, at the 3 month mark showed I had decreased fat mass by 0.4lbs, increased lean mass by 23.5lbs!, and increased bone mass by 0.3lbs. Just looking at the scale it doesn’t look good. Looking at results in strength, body composition, how I look and feel tell the real story and it’s awesome.

I love the content of your podcasts. As a physician, I am very impressed with the knowledge and scientific data you refer to engage your listeners to improve their health journey. In particular, I am impressed with Sal's devotion to research and staying up to date on the latest studies. My husband just recommended you guys to me a few weeks ago. I listen to your discussions daily at work between seeing patients. I have started some at home strength training about 5 weeks ago as the treadmill 4 times a week (walk with a few sprints) for the last 5 years and yo-yo dieting for the past 20 years has not helped. My weight has remained pretty steady the past 10 years unless I do the latest fad diet which is not sustainable. I am 54 with 4 grown kids and am now turning to getting "buff" as my 17 year old would say. Or at least increasing muscle mass and strength. I am motivated to continue and am hopeful for some progression in my health. Thank you guys for all you do!

Thanks guys. Hits home as someone who went through 15 years of an eating disorder. And recently cushings like symptoms with cortisol and weight gain. Was always into weight lifting and building muscle has been the one biggest factor of getting stubborn fat off (as well as moods elevated and normalized). Everything said is so on point!!! I shared this with my good friend that is obese and insists on cardio as first choice for exercise. Praying she takes the advice cause she is so sold on weight watcher's... hate the program.. does great for portion control BUT purported and fat are high points so she ends up eating a ton of fruit ( no points) and low fat& processed carbs.

Great episode! Adams point at the end cannot be overstated. I was working so hard over a year ago and was not getting any results. But my life was miserable and I was in a super stressful and unhealthy situation. Once I changed that, and moved on I was able to prioritize my health. My sleep is better, but still needs improvement. But with strength training I’ve built muscle, lost 30+ lbs so far in the past year, and changed my life for the better in so many was. The info on this podcast has been a game changer!

Thank you guys for this content. Found your videos while looking up reverse dieting. I’m 42. Lost 28lbs over 28 months but was dead, weak, cold and tired. Started seeing a womens health and hormone specialist. She has started me on protein pacing, carb cycling…. It is so much more food than I’m used to, but these type of videos help me to not freak out. My calorie increase was pretty drastic, pretty fast, so I have gained 9 lbs in this detox, healing, feasting phase. But I have hope that I need to fix my metabolism and gain muscle that I lost. My tests results were awful in how much my body was breaking down muscle for energy. Wish I had know all this a few years ago, but at least I can start working back to a proper relationship with food and now adding in strength training. I prob need a actually routine to follow, but starting with no equipment training like squats, push ups, bridges, ect.

Hey, i have been listening to you guys for a few months now. and for 2 weeks been doing the first week of "maps anabolic" that you have on youtube. i watched an episode that really resonated with me about the types of people that fail at fitness and realized i was like 5-7 of them and yo yo dieted and overtrained myself to my heaviest weight during the pandemic. so one of the pieces of advise i have been trying to follow is to focus on strength and reverse my calories before i cut. which is hard for me to focus on that and not force myself to eat less calories at first. definitely going to pick this bundle up. its perfect for what i am trying to accomplish moving forward!

Just found this channel recently and I have been loving the advice ever since. I've tried many different diets and had success. The unfortunate truth is that I haven't been able to sustain the eating habit that diets require. Being a father of four active kids it's tough finding the time to get a good workout in. Glad I've found inspiration for different types of workout ideas. Keep up the great work!

I heard a awesome quote that I think everyone should keep in mind for their fitness journey or just life in general. And it goes “Comparison is the thief of joy “.
