I had been looking for this very kind of video clip for years, if not decades! I cannot believe I had not noticed this video of yours for a year! I guess I had given up searching for it at some point. Anyway, thank you so so so much, ArtemisScotland!

Thank you for the instruction. I'm new to 18th century living history and needed proper instruction on a bow.

My lady and I are getting married this Halloween, and we are having a masquerade ball after the ceremony. But I would absolutely love to surprise my lady wife with a very elegant bow as she finds her place at the alter. Could you do more videos on such things? A proper bow is a bit of a lost art it seems.
@ArtemisScotland2 жыл бұрын
This really is an elegant bow and with a bit of practice we are sure you would look that part, especially as you are unlikely to be wearing 18th century costume which was often quite ridiculous in its style. A modern bow involves putting your feet together, your left hand across your waist, your right arm at your side and bending to roughly a 45 degree angle. Hope this is of some help.
@brokenspear66042 жыл бұрын
@ArtemisScotland I will not be in 18th century costumes, but we will be in these elegant masks we got from Venice, I will absolutely be practicing this bow, and thank you very much for the additional advice. Your channel is fantastic and thank you for your content

So for Lady or a Gentleman it's always left foot forward and bending the back leg? Sorry for my ignorance, i am doing research for a story.

My mother insisted that I should be lectured with such etiquette as this in order to not be rude to any individual or other persons, but I doubt it

Hi, I am Chinese and have little knowledge about the British. I am interested in this, want to use this in the daily time and I have a quick question. I googled around but did not find out the answer. Please bear me if this is just silly or not proper. Most of us (as far as I observed on the street of London) do not wear hats and so do I. Is it the same to behave as the video did, except that our left hand is kept somewhere, say on the left leg or in front of the chest? (I am guessing here) Any answer to this question would be appriciate.
@ArtemisScotland2 жыл бұрын
This video represents behaviour of the 18th century. It does not represent 21st century behaviour so you don't need to worry how you take your hat off now.

I have been seeing the quote on quote prince bow a lot in today's society when referring to a high class gentleman possibly from the 18s or something like that,do that kind of bow even exist back then or is it just something completely made up?
@ArtemisScotland2 жыл бұрын
It did exist - there are many books on manners which give guidance on how to bow and curtsy. Hope that helps.

This was the height of politeness in the 18th century. The lower you bowed, the more respect you were giving.

@@rekostarr7149 we haven't anything at the moment. A 20th century bow usually involved both fee together; left hand across your waist and bend a little in respect. Hope that helps.
