My friends in Detroit would brag about how I could put braids in very short hair and you could pull it and it wouldn't come out. Straight silky hair is really hard to do. It slips through your fingers if you don't keep a really tight grip. It makes your fingers cramp. My daughters have the silky hair 😫

@@TradBarbie I have mostly straight, but a slight wave to my hair. It’s super soft after washing though, and a scrunci does not like to stay put after. I found though, after a day or two, I’m guessing the natural oils and maybe a little “dirt” from the day is back, and my hair has a grip to it again. So, if your going to braid very soft,silky,or fine hair, it’s better to do a day or two after washing or do it while damp. It helps a lot 😉✌️

@@erinaustin2157 They're all old now. I have OCD so I could only do hair right after washing. I had that death grip though. I'd put that silky hair in a cornrowed pony. I could never now. I want to say I used hairspray as I went, sometimes, maybe not with the cornrows. Product can mimic that two/three day tackiness, but some could make it worse. Now that I think about it, my two childrens' hair got more slippery the longer without washing. I thank *GOD* for my nappy hair. I can't imagine having to wash it every day. I can stick it up so high with no product, etc. My mom has to wash her hair *every* day, or she looks home less 😂 She can't even go 28 hours without washing it. It's so straight and smooth that it won't hold a *perm.* Mine will hold a crimp after washing sometimes.
@TradBarbie
@TradBarbie Жыл бұрын
@@erinaustin2157 I know most straight hair is fine, but in my family each hair is *thick* and coarse. When it get's greasy it clumps together and becomes even heavier, and won't do anything. Then my fingers will slip and not be able to grip. It probably would've helped with my middle daughter. She has curly hair and it's rather fine and soft.

As a white foster parent to several black children I had to do a lot of learning. I never even learned how to do a French braid on straight hair. These types of videos have really helped. Doing my hair consists of mediocre brushing and a bun, so KZbin has been a game changer and life saver.

I had a hairstylist get frustrated with my hair for a wedding. She said it was literally like trying to braid water, try to make a part and it just flows right back where you don't want it to be. Some people say black hair is harder but I think every texture is just different and has its own properties that you have to have experience with to get used to. It's so cool you can work with so many different hair types!

Right its just like water, flows right through your fingers. It's especially bad? (bad for braiding) if it's just been washed. My hair is long and straight, and thats all it wants to be. Curl it in the morning? Straight by afternoon. T.T lol but really I'm happy with what i've got, you learn to love yourself.

For real, Im asian and used to braiding my own hair. You'd think braiding straight caucasian hair wouldnt be too disimilar, but their hair texture, especially with fine hair, just feels 'fluffier' and less dense than asian hair. Like our strands are more tough.

So lovely, as a girl my hair was like this and I grew up in an African country where women and girls took a lot of pride in their braided hair styles. It was easy for me to feel left out because often heard that my hair was too “slippery” for most braided styles. I was so blessed by a few women who were patient with my hair and gave me beautiful cornrows. To this day I love braiding my own hair and watching hair videos with beautiful African hair - but this makes me so happy! ❤

You take your amazing creativity and skill and make this little girl feel so special. My mom never took care of my afro and I had a horrible self image. I used to sweep hair, make coffee and clean up at a salon my mom worked at when I was in middle school, yes she was a cosmetologist and very talented, but it was the salon owner, Cathy, and two of the ladies, Rosita & Lisa, that used to care for my hair. Rosita spent the most time with me and even did some cute braid designs that my friends thought were cool. By the time I was in high school they had my hair looking cute. They would perm, condition, color my hair. I still think about them and I am 49. I have tried finding them and wish I could just to thank them. I miss them in my life. They made me feel special just like you are making that little girl feel. People like you make the biggest changes in children's lives. **Salon was Nature's Hairport.

yeah white hair and asian hair often is so slippery, so its hard to keep it from slipping out as you go and having pieces stick out everywhere. thats why a lot of white braided hairstyles are seemingly 'loose' on purpose to give that illusion that its on purpose
@tymondabrowski12
@tymondabrowski12 Жыл бұрын
@@pandapower5902 note also that straight hair is often thin and lacks volume because of no texture, so the "loose on purpose" look also gives the hair volume that 3-4 hair doesn't really need. It's not just to hide the flyaways. (In any case the flyaways are unavoidable, keep the same braid for a whole day and it will get more and more messy, sometimes in a good way, sometimes in a bad way).

I have fine hair like this little girl and I use water to style as well. Inside out french braids in two rows down the back, parted in the center, are pretty easy and look nice on my texture hair. first learn to french braid two braids down your head, then just flip the procedure so instead of taking hair and going over the braid you're making, you bring it under. so it stands up like a braid instead of the gathers you see in french braiding.

See this is why i feel bad for biracials with cave mothers. You know damn well you shouldn't be putting braids in that child's head 💀💀. The braid is absolutely adorable and I would love it on my own hair. I don't know if it would work but still... Can we give a nod to how dang still and cooperative your niece was? Even though she asked for you to do it, the fact that she was so still is amazing!

The one time I went to get micro braids in my hair. Straight, Native American genetics, hair. I had it long and I was getting tired of it tangling at the time. So I went to a business that specialized in micro braiding and extensions. I walked in and everyone in that place stared at me like I was crazy or had grown two heads. I got self conscious, but really wanted the micro braids. I went up to the appointments desk and asked if they had an opening for someone to get micro braids. I was asked when would my friend be there to get the braids, they had an opening in about a hour. I said to them, I'm not here for a friend, I'm here to get the braids for myself. The lady literally laughed at me to my face, then got a look on her face, "You're serious? You do know we do black women's hair, not white chicks' hair?" My response was, I am Native American. Why does my skin color or ethnicity matter if I am willing to pay you for the work? Which, now I am not going to ask for, but thank you for showing me just how racist a place can be with "white" chicks in photos in your windows. I walked out and went to the mall and donated my long hair for cancer kids. Took me years to grow my hair out again, but I'll never go to get micro braids sadly. I love seeing videos like this though. I would have loved to met this woman when I had wanted to get the micro braids. I would have probably gotten a lot more hairstyles I have seen and loved the look of. I already have thick hair, just because it is not curly, it has a similar texture and care needs.

Love it! I am not good with Dutch braids. I did a similar French racer braid top and bottom for my niece several years ago for her school dance. She loved it. It was not a heart, it was a top racer French braid meeting a lower racer French braid pulled together to one side. My niece also has to ton of hair and pin straight. I love braiding her hair. I love this braid in the heart shape, I would even love it if it was just a crown braid I think, love your technique so beautiful!

That is SO cute!!! One thing to remember with very light skin, if one is going to be out in full sun for more than 15 min, put a bit of sunscreen on the bare skin of the hair parts else the skin will burn. Or put on some kind of cover over the exposed hair parts. Nothing ruins the week like a sunburn!

I have been doing all kinds of braids on my hair since I was a child. It is only recently that I added any kind of oil to the braids, probably inspired from videos like this or more textured hair. The results are fantastic. Can’t wait to try something like this on my granddaughter! Thanks for the inspiration.
