How to BRAZE Copper Plumbing Lines - #shorts

A lot of you guys got mad at me in my last brazing video for multiple reasons! Maybe it was because I was wearing latex gloves or because I burnt the crap out of the pipe! Well, I'm back to redeem myself, but I'm going to do it the same because that's the right way to braze copper, especially since I trained to do med gas. For safety purposes NEVER use latex/rubber gloves when working with any type of open flame.

How is brazing different from soldering? The technique looks the same

Brazing is silver it’s a lot stronger requires special torch tank

Brazing is basically like welding and combing together fitting with pipe . Soldering is just filling the gap in fitting and pipe with a solder type metal. Two different heat temperatures required

@ Vendettakush not necessarily, I can braze smaller lines 1/2”, 3/4” with regular turbo torch and map gas

Brazing is joining metals where the filler melts at over 900*f without melting the parent metals (that would be welding.) Soldering is joining metals where the filler melts below 900*f. Copper melts at around 1985*f. The filler metals melt around 1500*f. Typical soldering is done well below 900*f, which will not anneal the copper, but will result in a less-strong joint, if ultimate strength is the goal (AC lines, Oxygen lines etc.) Brazing is stronger than soldering because you are creating a metalergic bond and forming strong new alloys with the filler metal and the parent metals.

He is wrong i do refrigeration after the joint and braze turn that grey silver color which only takes maybe 20 seconds after heat is taken off you are at almost no risk of cause a crack by moving it

@@RogerWakefield sorry Roger, it may not leak now, but it definitely will in the future. I bet if you cut the fitting in half, and bend it at the joint, you’ll see you didn’t get full penetration. Wrong angle when applying filler rod and definitely not enough heat. Needs to be glowing cherry hot red before applying which is why your joint looks clumpy.

Also you have your heat on the pipe when your applying the filler rod, when it should be on your fitting. The heat pulls the brazing material deep into the fitting to achieve full penetration. It looks like you’re just melting the material at the crease of the joint.
