Been watching Golf Sidekick for about 4 years and this was one of your two best lessons for common golfers along with playing within yourself and having proper expectations. You can break 80 or break 90 using those lessons by not losing your mind over a bad hole or back to back 3 putts.

I sense that the act of making these videos and explaining your thought processes actually helps you maintain your focus on the course. I definitely suffer from scrambled brain on the course which leads to runs of 3 to 4 scrappy holes in a row somewhere on the round. Often I retrieve my focus but the score has been trashed by that hour of scrambled brain. Perhaps due to my age but I do struggle to maintain focus for the 4-5 hours of a typical competition round - and I see the same problem with most other handicap golfers too. Maybe using this 666 process could help and stop me from turning one poor hole into a poor run of holes.

Hey just wanted to say I've just completed a total binge of your channel start to finish. I've been searching for good stuff on strategy and the mental game many times in the past but never really found much good. Apparently the Google algorithm in its infinite wisdom decided that now was the time, just after I'd shot my first ever 39 on 9 holes (50 on the front nine, waddaway to break 90!), on om of those scary Jack Nicholson courses at that! I'm pleased to say I was already well on my way down the way of the Playa, keeping my game as low stress as possible but I did have some gaps in my strategizing, like I was always shaping it away from the hazards but aiming away from the trouble and letting the ball shape back feels so much better and opens up the landing area. Anyway, I was super inspired by the break 90 videos and decided to play the next couple of rounds with just a 6i off the tees to see if I can get consistent at breaking 90 in that way and then start to deliberately attack a few holes to go lower eventually. So I tried that out in the first round of the year last Sunday and I was amazing! I shot... well I shot 52, with 22 putts on 9 holes. Ouch. But now i was motivated to dig out my putting mat that has been woefully disused lately, and went from missing 25% from 3 feet to draining 100% from 8 feet i one session! Back at it today, I shot 44 on just the second attempt, still with 4 3-stabs but this time also 4 up/downs. Looking at my gs style stats after the round I realized I had 7 easy to fix dropped shots in this round which means... Yes, looking forward to breaking the next score barrier this year, if I can shoot 39 on 9 holes once I can do it repeatedly right? Right. Thanks for the great content and inspiration, keep it up Playa!

One of the best things I've read recently is an interview with Marc Leishman and he basically says to stop aiming for the flag. Aim for the middle of the green and let your misses work for you. If the flag is in the front of the green, aim for the middle. If you aim for the green and go short then you're not putting but if you aim for the middle and go short, you're golden. Aim for the middle and go long? Well hopefully you're still on the green. It's more about playing the odds and letting the dispersion of shots and misses work in your favor.

The system makes sense. The birthday holes is a good concept. And Zen before every shot, hitting the shot you're confident in. The challenge is getting up and down 6 times. That ain't easy. But amateurs have to hit some good shots to break 80. And even one double can be too much. But a good mental approach, with an emphasis on enjoying the game.
@somerandomguy7064 жыл бұрын
Allowed myself to go to my happy place and really focus on planning out my shots so that worst case I made a bogey. Missed in the right places when I did, didn't try too much when out of position. Helped that my game was on fire to begin with. All combined for my best round ever: 75 on a hard course 73.8/138 as a 9 handicap. 11 GIR's, 4 up and downs, hit every fairway. We'll see how things go tomorrow. One problem: didn't find a single feather to plant.

After shooting low 80’s for a few weeks and getting frustrated at not troubling the 70’s I took serious note of this video having watched your stuff before. Looked back at my stats on 6-6-6 and whilst I was getting 6 GIR I was only getting 1-2 up & downs. Worked on short game & putting all week, shot 77, 7 GIR, 4 up&down but also short game meant all the birthday holes were kept to bogey on this par 69.

I like a lot about what you are doing. The videos are nicely produced in exotic locations. The music is interesting. Your tips are interesting and a bit unconventional . Your wardrobe is unconventional, but I sense it is totally you. Can't figure out the funky language..."like a baus"...no idea what that means other than the implication is that it is cool. I am not prone to subscribing to ANYTHING but I have become a huge fan of your videos so am now on-board! I love everything about your videos, Matt. Thank you. I am completely convinced that my continued improvement has WAY more to do with the mental/attitude/strategic side of the game than swing mechanics. My questions about the 666 course management system is how to avoid obsessing about achieving the 6 greens in regulation and 6 up and downs. I am pretty good about not obsessing about my score during a round...although I do find myself counting pars. I currently average about 6 per round. I am guessing that with the 666 system, I'd fall into the trap of counting GIRS and Up&Dns and this could create stress if I get "behind" during a round. Isn't 6 GIRS and 6 Up&dns, essentially setting up a goal of achieving 12 pars? That is one more than the "11 pars and 7 bogeys" route to breaking 80. My best 18 to date is 81 and I'm looking forward to breaking 80 for the first time next year.
@GolfSidekick4 жыл бұрын
Hey playa. It’s the process behind hitting six greens. You just need to do the things that lead to the goal. Par fives, par threes and short par fours give you a great opportunity to make the green in Regulation. You just need to hit the smart shots to get there. Focus on the process
@wntfan6564 жыл бұрын
@@GolfSidekick Thanks. I'd like your honest opinion (perhaps this could be the topic of a video?) on the value of new equipment to reach the goal of breaking 80 at least semi-regularly. In my personal situation, I'm playing budget irons purchased over two decades ago. By playing more regularly the past two years, I've been able to improve from shooting in the mid 90's to shooting in the mid 80's with a personal best of 81. I only recently added a sand wedge. before that, all I had was a PW! Should I prioritize getting a complete set of new irons or first add a set of gap wedges? Or should I resist the urge to buy new clubs and just practice and play more? Like most of us regular playas, I struggle with inconsistent swing mechanics and ball contact and I feel that a set of "game improvement" irons could really help me.
