Thats a great way of breaking them in. I used to do it that way. Now i just chuck them in the rigs and fire them in the mud and water and clean really good when im done for the day and replace frequently 😆 👊👍💯

Water is abrasive. It speeds up the wear of the brushes. Water break in seats the brushes to the comm faster so you get more power. Water break in doesn’t prolong the life of the motor, it actually takes life away. Water break is an old method for racing applications were seated motors were used for more power changing motors during a race. It makes for a faster better seated motor, but definitely kills the motor faster.

Good tutorial, I usually just spray out the motors with contact cleaner and keep the bearings lubed. Especially when you run in the rain and dirt. 👍🏾

If you break the motor in, using reverse voltage, you will lose some rpm and torque when it's running forward. As the brushes break in, they will form to the commutator giving a slight timing advance in the direction that it was broken in. Another thing is to experiment with different lubes. While racing a slash spec class on a carpet oval, another racer and I experimented with a dozen different lubricants using a dyno, and the consistent lap times of our short carpet oval. Certain lubes would pull up to 3000 more rpm, and shave 3 tenths off of an 8 second lap. I don't use water anymore. My motors were faster and lasted just as long on a 10 min dry 6v break in. I did blow the motor out with compressed air during the break in, lubed the bushings during break in, and cleaned and lubed it at the end the same as you did...

What lubes did you find work better? I have never added lube to the inside like that either just the bushings on top and bottom. Should you put lube in that side slot also?. Thanks in advance.
@ragsixracing
@ragsixracing Жыл бұрын
@@bryanallen7373 I only added lube to the bushings. It was a long time ago and not racing any more. Don't remember the exact brand but our best results on rpm was a full synthetic motor oil

Might try Deoxit D5. It's a non-solvent contact cleaner and lubricant. It works well on scratchy potentiometers and switch contacts, so it might work well on motors.

So would this still be beneficial to a motor thats run about 8 packs? Its an arrma 12 550. Also would this be wise to do periodically as a maintenance cleaning?

I saw a guy this weekend that I think was adding Kerosene to the water also. Not sure what that is all about but when he noticed it was out he put it away and said I wasn't supposed to let you see that.

I have an old rebuildable motor in mint condition. Ran it in water at quarter speed for 20 minutes and got black water. I switched the water and did it again but got black water again. 3rd time black water again. I stopped after that. The motor sparked constantly during the water break in. Am I doing something wrong?
