I used your design to make a twin daybed for our vacation rental. Used 2x4s salvaged from another job. Even my wife (who's an interior designer) approved (although you really can't see it with the mattress and bed skirt on!). It's at least 175% over engineered, too! I think I could park my Dodge Ram 2500 on it. My kind of bed! Thanks!

Ha ha! This bed is definitely built to last. I made it for our 135 lb Great Dane to sleep on so it had to be able to take some abuse! Thanks for checking out the video and good luck!

I made the legs 28" so I could fit some bins underneath, and doubled up the legs to account for the added height. The design and and video are great, thank you!

That's a good idea to double up like that. Glad to hear that the build went well. Thanks for checking out the video!

I would consider making the slats removable...so you would glue or screw small spacers along the cleat and then just lay the slats - easier for moving, cleaning, storage, etc. I would also make the slats 1x 3 but that would change the whole 2x4 vibe.

Thanks for the great idea! I want to surprise my 5 year old with a custom bed, but my question is: how much weight do you think this bed can hold? We have family that stays with us sometimes and they are on the heavier side, lol.
@joelydic4 жыл бұрын
This bed is super sturdy and would probably support an elephant. Lol. It's actually intentionally over built and strong. I think if you make it you'll be happy with how strong and sturdy it is. Good luck with the build!

Thank you for the video. I build 3 bed frames because of your video. Do you think that this can be used to build a full size frame?
@joelydic4 жыл бұрын
Good deal! Glad to hear that the beds turned out to your liking. You could probably use this design, but you might need to add some additional supports in the center. Thanks for checking out the video and good luck!
@notslahify5 жыл бұрын
Trying to make this frame but ran into two questions... 1) did you screw the cleats in just at the end, or all along the length? The video doesn’t show 2) did you use shorter screws to secure the slats onto the cleats? Or the same length screw for the whole project? Thanks!
@joelydic5 жыл бұрын
Good questions! I secured the cleat with screws, after pre-drilling holes, probably every 12-16 inches. I believe that I used the same length of screws for the entire project and I think that they were all either 2" or 2.5". Hope this helps and good luck with the build! Thanks for checking out the video!

I need to make a queen as well and am looking for a simple design I can get done with just the compound miter and circular saws I have. Wouldnt the horizontal and vertical span of a queen be too great for this design with just 4 legs?

Hello, I am very new to this and am fascinated of how well you built this!! What type of woods would you recommend for both affordability and prevention of bugs / termintes? Are pressure-treated lumber good?
@joelydic4 жыл бұрын
I'm glad to hear that you liked the video! You can just use pine for the build unless you're planning on using it outside. If you're going to use it outdoors then you might want to use pressure treated wood. Hope that helps out and thanks for checking out the video!

Hi great video man respect. The 2 cleats are 2*4?

Super longshot here... don't know if you are monitoring this post... Since we're still mid-pandemic and we need a bed as well as a fun, cheap project we're going to use your plans... we want to know if you recall if those were 4" screws? also... did you really make a pilot hole for every screw? Amateur woodworker here so looking for best practices...
@joelydic4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the slow response. I believe that those were 2.5" screws and unfortunately there were a lot of pilot holes. When your putting screws in the close to the edge of the wood many times it will crack without first drilling a pilot hole. Hopefully this helps out and thanks for checking out the video. Good luck!
