DIY farmhouse coffee table with woodwork plans. In this tutorial video I show you how to build a coffee table for your home. This DIY coffee table is not only beautiful but very functional. Building a farmhouse coffee table isn't as hard as you would think. I built this rustic coffee table using 2x8’s, 2x4’s and 1x6’s. This coffee table is easy to build. Using these materials I was able to build a farmhouse coffee table with storage. It doesn’t take a lot of material to build. I use pocket hole joinery for all of the joints.The table top measures 45 inches square. The table is 18 inches tall. This is a perfect addition for your farmhouse living room decor. This is a great DIY coffee table that you can build. It's not hard to build a rustic coffee table.

Do you have any issues with the bottom shelf expanding and contracting? It's fixed in the aprons tight and I was wondering why not the same concerns with movement of the top. I'm new at this and thank you for your awesome tutorials.

Sir you are a faithful Servant of the upmost Jesus Christ and he has definitely blessed you. I love your videos and how you are unashamed to let people know you’re a Godly Man. I as well was an LEO for 20 years and had to stop due to health issues. I’ve also had a passion for woodworking and I just want to say thank you and keep doing what you’re doing man. You’re an inspiration to so many youngsters and middle age men and women alike I’m sure. Be blessed.

@@731Woodworks Most people have a drill and a circular saw. They can build many of your projects with only those, a sanding block, and a paint brush. They need to buy lumber, which is expensive if they need money for food, diapers, and gas for the car. . I've been there. When you are in that situation, it is really hard to get out. You need money to make money, But hey, it is an idea.

Nice job turned out very nice. I too am a fan of general finish products. That's the only stuff I use. Another tip for you. When you are buying your boards for your top if you notice a dark streak running in the middle of the board DO NOT BUY IT. That dark streak is the pith which is the very center of the tree. That will cause your boards over time to crack and split and ruin the table top so try and avoid any of those.

I put the conditioner on for about 5 minutes. I paint it on with a foam brush and apply liberally. In fact, it is wet looking. then I wipe off with paper towels or an old undershirt. If you let it dry too much, it will block up the pores of the wood. I want it to fill the pores, but still allow the pores to soak up some stain. I use gel stain as it goes on more even in my opinion. You have your system that works for you. To each their own, I'm using veneered plywood, you are using pine, so technique will probably be different.

Hey Matt, can’t get enough of these videos. I’ve finished furniture with everything from polyurethane to lacquer but I’ve never felt real confident with using those. I’ve not tried the clear coat that you use in this video, but have you had any experience using polyacrylic? It’s become my go-to finish because of how easy it is to apply. My question is - how would you compare this finish your using with a polyacrylic finish? (Assuming you’ve used it before) Thanks man and keep the videos coming.
@731Woodworks
@731Woodworks 4 жыл бұрын
I now use Varathane water based polyurethane. It’s easy to apply. Gives a great finish every time and is easy to clean up. I think polycrylic is similar to this. Compared or an oil based, water based is much easier to use.

So would you not screw the table top down to the frame? I saw where you used the z clips but I wasn’t sure if you pocket holed the frame and then screwed the top down. Awesome video!
@731Woodworks
@731Woodworks 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. No, you wouldn't want to screw it to the frame because that would prevent the wood top from expanding and contracting which could lead to the boards splitting.

Hey Matt I've watch quite a few of your videos ,Thanks for doin them. I'm going to get into woodworking on my days off from the fire department. I was wondering what is your experience with water based stains opposed to oil based? Can I mix? I.e can I use oil based conditioner and stain and water based finish. Should I just stick with one for all three steps, lol as I write you answer my last question

Do you use the pocket holes on the bottoms of the table top to hold the top boards together better besides just using glue?
@731Woodworks
@731Woodworks 3 жыл бұрын
you can use glue to hold them if you clamp it together and let it dry. Providing you have good tight seams.

Would love to see/hear something about the z clips. Does it prevent the top from moving? Especially when you flip it back over and can move within the slots. Does it support moving the table too?
@731Woodworks
@731Woodworks 5 жыл бұрын
They allow for wood movement. The top itself won’t move on the table when you flip it. However I wouldn’t lift by the top with only the z-clips supporting the load of the base. I move my tables by lifting from the base.

Matt, I realize this is an old video, but I have a question. If I run the table top boards through the planner so they are all perfectly flush, what is you experience with staining the top after it’s been planned? Meaning, will the wood absorb the stain effectively given how smooth the table top will be?

Excellent video on the step by step but I have one little complaint,,,,,,,,,,would it be possible to omit the background music you picked for your video or at least volume down the background unnecessary music track. Thank you. I did buy your plans with the step by step as well, hoping that the music was not there,,,,,,,,,,,,,,sadly, same thing, very distracting and unnecessary .

Ugh! I wish I were a man. 😂 I want to do this but it’s just so foreign to me and I don’t have the miter saw or kreg jig but I’m going to buy one this weekend. I also want whatever that took was to round the edges! Wow! So much nicer that way! Edit: Also, I don’t know how to even use a kreg jig. I think I could do it easily on the legs and base but the table top is confusing. I’m going to try it though! I’m determined!
