How to build a lounge chair (free pattern)

Follow along as I turn this pile of scrap wood from an old table into a mid century modern lounge chair. I had a lot of fun with this build and am super excited to finally have a lounge chair. It’s not without flaws. The wood still shows some dark spots and holes from years of use as a table, but it has a ton of character.

I started out by buying a cushion from the garden section of my local home repair center. www.lowes.com/pd/allen-roth-C...
Next I used Carbide Create to design a pattern that fit around this cushion. I cut it out on my Shapeoko XXL cnc router, but this could also easily be done by hand with some poster board.

Before any critique, let me say I doubt I could do any better and I think it looks great. I think I would have added a slight pitch so the seat wasn't sitting level but allowed a sort of force leaned back position. I find even when I sit on normal chairs I lean back so this happens. Instead of so many domino's (you bought the tool, don't feel bad to use it! Screw what others think just cause it's not something everyone owns), thoughts on cutting out dados on the inner board that is doubled up for the back and seat area? The the slats would rest on the board and not trying to shear a domino. Again, great chair, it has me thinking and I love the rescue of old material. I see alot of pianos being given away for free. I need to get a chair or two out of them :)

Thanks for the honest feedback. Initially I thought it should lean back a little. When I was testing it, I put shins under the front so it was raised slightly. I didn’t notice a huge change feel wise and it actually looked better to me when the top was level. This may have had to do with a combination of the angle between the bottom and back, and the taper on each section. I think I’m going to try to do a little more with this idea of turning old pieces of furniture into something completely different.

Hey Chris, I really like the chair. I've just started getting into the wanting to build a chair as well. I went to you link for the plans but they aren't there, or did I miss them? Any way, I eventually want to build a chair through inspirations from Frank Lloyd Right, the Eames, and Gustav Stickley. Great use of materials on hand.
