Straight is more important than weight. It I wouldn’t go heavier then 20 ounces on the playing cue

@@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen Yeah, I used to think "that shot isn't really THAT hard" when the announcers sometimes pointed some of the easier hard ones out. Then I realized you guys often need to convert at 90+ levels to succeed. At that point I FULLY understood the assessment. When you have to shoot off rails or over balls I never had that problem though. I HATE those shots. Usually talk myself out of them beforehand...bad idea. And compared to you guys my game sucks beyond belief.

Sometimes it is discouraging, a bit. I could play full time and I would almost certainly never reach 30% of your level of play, Accustats wise. I try to keep in mind that there is no reason I should be able to, and try to judge my play entirely against my previous play, for advancement. There, channels like yours really help. Pro tourneys are sure fun to watch, though. Many of them, one mistake spells disaster, from what I've seen. Ridiculous level of skills and heart. I really enjoy your stories, too. Sad to see Efren tailing off, but still some one pocket, where he is still VERY competitive at a pro level. One, if not the, contemporary true 'heroes' of the sport. That Filler and Ko are really something, too. And obviously all the top pros, yourself most certainly included. Pag's a riot, too, at times. And I think J Hall is one serious up and comer to watch, on the skills/results side. He seems to be a natural, and can assess a table accurately, almost literally at a glance, even one pocket. I saw him freewheeling at my local hall, zero pressure, and initially I thought the shots he was picking were absurd, until I saw him execute time after time after time ... difficult kick caroms and combos and the like. Jason was my last personal pick, for starter pros rising. I got that one right, for sure. I was sad to see the current Mosconi cup. The rolls and beatings on the US side were often brutal, it seemed. Some days you are the bug and some days you are the windshield, I guess. I'm fairly sure you saw that differently. :-) I felt bad for Jeremy, too. One of my favorite announcers. Hard to put that much work in and have so few results. Maybe next year.

Another great video....Thanks Niels. Quick question. What are your thoughts on wrist action when accelerating through these shots? Some players like the Pilipino players use a very lose wrist while others prefer a stiffer wrist. Interested in hearing your thoughts specific to wrist action and getting more action on the ball.....and if that is a topic for another video, just reply ...."Coming soon" :)

Hi Rick!! Yes some players use extra wrist action. I personally don’t pay attention to this myself but a stiff worst will not help the acceleration I believe so try to keep things loose😄👍🏼

Very great lesson. I have trouble with draw shots. They are iffy at best. But I noticed when you exhibit the stroke your arm almost fully goes straight. Thus meaning more cue shaft sticking out from your bridge hand. This makes sense because I see a lot of pros use this bridge. Is this correct . I have been using a closeup for control .

I give the spin shot at 7:00 a try and it is way harder than it looks. I can get to the side pocket consistently. But that is it so far ,,after a about 10 tries. The cue does not bend back right away,,it goes straight across the table after contact ,,and then the spin grabs the rail. I see in your shot the cue bends back immediately after contact.

@@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen Yes after the cue stops it is near the side pocket after hitting 1 rail,,, I did it so consistent each time the cue never made 2 rails. Had the cue kept going it may have scratched every time. I re shaped my tip and Ill try again

Yes but it you hit it harder the angle will Chance. You won’t scratch in the side because the cue will move forward a bit more before the draw kicks in👍🏼🔥

Im hitting hard and even tried all bottom and the best I can get is straight across and back to 2nd rail. I can how ever make it happen if I move the cue up 1 diamond. I am going to change my tip ,,maybe that is the issue??? It ticks me off a little that I cant do it. lol

Hi Niels. Thank you for sharing this great video! Probably a basic question here, but hopefully you can shed some light. 🕯️ For shots like the Corey Duel one, and assuming we are hitting on the desired spot on the cue ball (6 o'clock), is it then true that with more speed, the cue ball will tend to follow the tangent line for longer period of time, versus using less speed; thus, not allowing the cue ball to bend back enough before hitting the side rail? If so, then how do you account for the RIGHT speed needed on these types of shots? In my humble experience (not much lol), I find that I get better action on the cue ball when I use less speed, but obviously this is not ideal when I need the cue ball to travel longer distances. Exactly. Softer speed makes the cue ball Grab faster but it will travel not so far so if you have to travel you have to bring more speed and then extra spin 😄💪🏼🔥

How far is the tip from cue ball on your final stroke of the first drill? I have been told a longer bridge is needed for "power strokes". I usually have a bridge length if about 6-8 inches for most shots, other than the break.

I noticed you were not as left or right as i thought you would play it, maybe a tip at most. I tend to overdo left and right. I did think you were 2 to 2.5 tips down, however. Are you trying to minimise squirt or deflection? Are you using a LD shaft?

I tend to use more heavy spin when I’m more in the stun/middle ball area. For draw it’s more like 1-2 tips also because there’s less meat on the cue ball there. I use the Luna nera low deflection shaft from longoni 🔥🔥👍🏼👍🏼

When I go to the 6 o'clock position for a power draw shot I send the cue ball flying off the table. There must be a fine line between too low and just right. My tip is a medium hardness and it is well chalked.

at 2:55 i notice you drop your elbow. idk if thats because youre doing a power shot, or if thats something you do consistently. Im not doubting you as im sure a champ like u knows the rights and wrongs of pool lol. But im just confused. Ive heard dropping your elbow while shooting, or moving it at all, is wrong because it can change where you actually hit the ball. So would you say its more of a personal preference thing? or maybe it should only be done on certain shots like power shots for ex? id really appreciate it if you can clear that up for me Niel. Hmmm I think you would Have to try this out. I use 12,4mm now. I got a lot of action out of the Luna Nera but with my old S2 shaft I could Also do it. Keep working on it!

Hmm I think fitness is great as long as you keep the muscles fast and explosive. Too much weight and slow muscles can effect your stroke speed

Hi Terminator, i have a question for you. You mentioned that you took 3 tries to do a full table draw shot from the 1st diamond. Seeing how it is definitely a tough shot, would you do the same when the same scenario happens in a tournament match? Or would you opt to play it differently and how?

Depends on what the table demands with position and how the match is going. Sometimes you have to go and otherwise more caution 👍🏼😄

I always thought I could at least do any stroke that any Pro could do ,,well at least once for me. But after trying this spin shot @ 7:00 with the cue at its hardest distance,,I cannot get it to happen. I can make it happen if I move the cue 1 diamond closer. It is making me think I need a new tip or a different cue. Im using a Predator Z shaft 2 pro. The cue ball goes straight across table every time and does not bend back,when the cue ball hits the 1st rail,,its spin sends it toward the other side pocket but does not reach the 2nd rail. I can do this exactly everytime. It is amazing how accurate every try is. lol What tip/shaft are you using??? Can you do this with about any cue???

Have you tried to cheat the pocket a bit? And more spin. It’s a combo of draw and a lot of spin. Keep trying! 👍🏼👍🏼💪🏼🔥

Cheating and spin are not seperate. It just helps to open up that angle but it not like when you use more spin then you have to cheat more.

@@DeeMoback these stroke shots aren’t my issue. I can power the cueball fairly easily which actually hindered my progression because I didn’t play for correct angles. I’m now trying to play w bigger angles to move the rock easier and with more control. Love Niels series cuz he’s so analytical about everything. I’d also love to see his opinions on tip diameter, hardness, cue weight and cue balance points.

I'm very good at miscueing when aiming that low...even at slow speeds it happens. I keep my elbow still, the cue as flat as possible and chalk up the tip. But still I'd say 50% of the time I miscue at slow speeds with a short bridge. I don't know the reason...my first instinct was that the tip was not curved enough but hey...blaming the equipment is always the easiest excuse. I'm sure that I'm the problem and not my cue. I just don't know what to focus on in order to work on that.

Maybe you’re dipping your stroke right before impact? Try to aim with stun(one tip under middle ball) and see if the ball draws back. If yes then you dip and hit lower at last second. Otherwise the cue ball should stop with medium firm pace and stun

@@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen Damn...my elbow WAS fine but since I focused so much on following through the ball over the past weeks my elbow started to go down... And I also noticed that by focusing so much on loosening my grip in the backswing (I pretty much let go with 3 fingers) I tend to regrip the queue in my stroke and I do that by tightening up my back fingers. So when hitting the cue ball my back fingers were tighter than my index finger and thumb. That made the tip dip. Now I focus on my elbow (again) and try not to loosen my grip too much on my backswing. That hepls me not to tighten up with the wrong fingers during the stroke. A loose is important but since mine was too loose I was struggling keeping it loose...my cue is pretty light aswell.
