2 New Dawn roses are coming to my garden. We need strong constructions to support those vigorous and heavy climbers. Here I am, building my own arch!

I’ve just recently started watching your videos. Oh I wish I had started at the beginning of the year. Especially this one! I plan to build a petition at the side of my house that will hide my rain barrel. And this will be perfect. But like I said it would’ve been more perfect earlier this year because the utility company came through and cut down hundreds of trees in my neighborhood this summer. Now they have all been sent to the wood chipper. Just think of all the lost branches.

Welcome! I am glad you found my channel! I know, for me all sorts of crooked wood is a treasure. The good news is, nobody wants it and there are plenty of places to get it. Haha.

Looks beautiful! So happy to hear you could get advice from your dad in Ukraine, and hopefully all your relatives are all safe. Praying for peace for the Ukrainian people.

You are an inspiration to all of us who are limited with skills and budget. You have inspired me to build an arbor this way that will be an entrance to my vegetable garden behind my detached garage. I will watch your video again and take a snip picture of it finished to remind me of steps I will need to do. I believe the top will be the hardest for me. I may need a carpenter to get the shape and then I can add the twigs. Thank you, Olga, for all your inexpensive ideas. By the way, at my last house I had a carpenter build a large arbor over a double gate on my side yard. I planted 4 New Dawn roses on the corners. They have been in the ground probably 3 years and have covered the large arbor now. It was fun to drive past my old home and see my accomplishment in fruition. Can't wait for your future projects, Olga. You are such a positive person and a joy to watch.

Thank you, Elizabeth, for your wonderful message! When I look at my baby New Dawns ( this is their second year in my garden), I really can’t imagine them growing so quickly, but you are not the first person to mention a huge growth of New Dawns in just several years. So, I am excited what this second year in their lives will bring! thank you for sharing!

My husband would think I was crazy to tackle such a job! I will have to show him your video. I would be worried about rocks and tree roots in my yard… seems like it used to be a rock garden 🤣. Welcome to CT! Absolutely beautiful ❤️

Yes, many rocks! My hubby is used to my crazy ideas. We are married for 22 years!

I paint lumber for ALL projects prior to assembly. That way all the cracks are also painted. A 3rd coat can be done once something is built. Then done! Easy to set up lumber across 2 rabbit cates or trash cans or ladder on it's side but opened wide....then back & forth w. those tampon rollers, flip, other side, edges are done by putting lumber close so that one or 2 passes of the roller gets them all at once.
@OlgaCarmody Жыл бұрын
Very good info, thank you for sharing. Make sense to paint all that lumber before putting it all together!

Your new arch looks awesome! I've been shopping for arches, but nothing is doing it for me. You've given me confidence to maybe design my own arch. I love the whimsical touch of the branches. And painting it. So smart.

You can do it! If I could do it, everybody can, and hopefully my video will give courage for gardeners to try and create something unique in their gardens.

I’ve been binge watching your videos. You come across as a neighbor, a friend. Thank you for sharing your lovely garden. I’m surprised that you feel you don’t have carpentry skills as this looks so well done. You certainly have an artistic eye. What a blessing that your dad could help you. I hope all is well for whatever family you have in Ukraine. We pray this war will end soon!

Very nice arch. I put in two today but they are just bent cattle panels from Big R. A Wollerton Old Hall will go one one side of the first arch and a Generous Gardener on the other side. The other arch will have two new apple trees that I hope to train into an arch. Arches are so beautiful and give structure to a garden. Good luck on the new roses. Mine haven't arrived yet either.

Just a tip to save money. If you buy some steel wool. Soak it in water for a couple of days. Paint the wood with the steel wool water, it will immediately go a nice old grey colour 👍🇬🇧

Gorgeous, I can't wait to see an update with the rose climbing on it! Just wondering how you set the posts in the ground. Concrete? Stones? Or did you simply back fill with the native soil?
@OlgaCarmody2 жыл бұрын
I was contemplating to do concrete, but gave up that idea, since I created quite deep holes. What I did, I collected all the waist stones from the property and back filled the holes with the brown soil.
