How to build a Viking Longhouse - Valheim Hearth and Home Update - Darkwood building guide

This is a full How to build Tutorial for a Viking Longhouse using the Darkwood structures introduced with the Valheim Hearth and Home update.
I have used the new Darkwood shingle roofs on this build, the roofs reminded me of crows wings so I built the large overhanging sections on the roofs to mimic wings.
I have explained every part of the build in a step by step tutorial and included the interior layout and decoration.

For me, even though I know that there are builds way more complex than this on here in KZbin, this one is my favorite. Its classy, it looks Viking/Nordic and the overhangs on the roof!! Simply amazing!

Thanks for this. Great build. I swapped a fermenter area for the jail and was able to combine the forge and crafting tables into one area. I put a bar in the empty area. Really appreciate the design tips. Keep up the great work.

Hey man the build is awesome! You can use ironwood beams from the ground directly and you'll be able to get much better stability. You can cover them afterwards with another type of wood beam if you don't like the aesthetic.

lol thanks man, I have a lot of practice with that now. Also the landscaping can really effect the FPS/lag you know if you flatern huge areas the game has to load it all in, so I am trying not to do too much 😁 think it will make the builds a bit more interesting as well

Building this in vanilla as a solo without any big coffers of resources. I'm talking starting from 0 wood, iron, tar, etc. Every single material used I had to go get myself and deal with the challenges that come with it. Been working on it when I have the time since this video first dropped. Finally finished the roof and I'm just starting on gatherings mats for the darkwood divider windows (built up until around 30 min into this vid so far). Long way to go, but I gotta say, extremely satisfying and rewarding knowing I did it all myself the old fashioned way. Getting some of those placements was a hassle and a half lol. Amazing build overall and my favorite so far in Valheim. Can't wait to finish it!

This is still one of my favorite designs. It's not the most complex or impressive build compared to some, but it's fairly simple to make and provides ample space for pretty much every need (except smelting) and some decorations.

Love this build! This is fantastic! I copied it on my friend's server and they are elated! I have one issue though. When it storms or rains, the hearth goes out. I have checked all points of the roof with no idea that could be causing it to happen.

there is an easier way in 27:00 , you just snap a 1meter wood beam to the 2m darkwood beam and snap the roof like normal.

The 2nd 26 degree on top eventually falls no matter how much I reinforce it with iron. I did it exactly like you did and it’s still falling.

Hey, sorry for the late response but yes I figured it out. So in his video he reinforces with iron but not as much as what apparently is needed. As in real construction it needs to start from the foundation. So I reinforced literally the entire long house with iron. Every beam, everywhere. That way when we get to the top I never had any issues with stability. Hope this helps.

Right-click Valheim in your Steam library Select Properties In the General tab, look for the Launch Options field In it, type -console Close the General tab Once in the game, to activate cheats, open the console by pressing F5. Type *devcommands* and hit enter. Type *debugmode* and hit enter. Press F5 again to close the console. Now when you press *B* you activate free cost for building (press *B* again to deactivate this). Press *Z* to start flying mode (press *Z* again to deactivate this).

The interior is a bit underused. With about the same size, in my own build I managed to include a second floor, surrounding the interior walls, just as some of the old long houses used to have, for storage and such. Long houses are really one of the best options when it comes to usability, fidelity in terms of "realism", and it really makes you "feel" like a real Viking in-game.
