I can appreciate how Mr. Jacomet's terminology and his explanations in such a manner in that it wont alienate any type of viewer. Too often with gentlemen this invested into this world forget that everyone starts somewhere. He justifies the items (three piece suit, sport jacket) that might seem odd or foreign to beginners promptly and with history to back it so that even the experienced can appreciate the information without it seeming repetitive

So, so elegantly described. It’s great to see and hear someone focusing on the staples in a man’s wardrobe in an age of “anything goes”. My father wore tailor-made three piece suits. He would save up until he had enough money for one. When he wore it, as a child I walked taller too. Now that I start to think about it (at his best) he was the one that taught me from a very young age the importance of recognising, buying and caring for the best quality clothes and shoes he could afford. “Quality not quantity”. You have helped me remember a happy memory of him that I look back on with real appreciation and fondness. It is easy to highlight the negative aspects of a person’s behaviour over time and paint their whole character that colour, harder to step back and see that we all have that light and shade in us. Thank you again for making this enjoyable and informative series.

I went for a 3 pieces suit for my first suit, it was one of the reasons I went into a sartorial style, I just love the way a waistcoat look and feel... As someone into workwear I also love the look of a good looking pair of jeans with a casual waistcoast... I'm 28 and would have never believed myself ten years ago if I've heard that I'll be wearing suits and waistcoasts just for the love of it ... Many thanks for your contents and it's always a pleasure listening too you

Thank you for your great educational videos, Hugo. Your videos helped me a lot to choose my first suit and gave me the idea which direction to go further, I am coming from IT-startups where people usually wear what's comfortable - shorts, sneakers, t-shirts, etc and when a start-up grows into a large company one has to suit appropriately for business meetings. The youth of today will look up to Gareth Southgate (England Manager) as a style icon, due to his (in their eyes) sharp waistcoat look during the World Cup. One of my favourite style icons is Michael Caine in his splendid Mohair Tonik 3 piece, in the movie Get Carter. How very apt you compare it to wearing a suit of armour! This suit was the character’s way of showing how successful he’d become and was his costume to face the trouble that was coming. It was certainly a strong style reference point for me as a young man. Super advice in this video as always. Thank you Hugo! Edited for spelling.
@SARTORIALTALKS6 жыл бұрын
Thank you Philo for you contribution. Gareth Southgate is wearing the vest pretty well, but he's far from being a style icon ! Michael Caine is playing in another league (if I may say). Cheers, Hugo

SARTORIAL TALKS I couldn’t agree more Hugo. The youth have much to learn - hopefully you can be their guide! I saw a chap in London with a lovely 3 piece suit with a yellow lining to his suit and waistcoat back It sounds like it shouldn’t work but it was amazing. Very Leeds United colours and so elegant. I complimented him as he sipped his coffee.

i noticed that also, when i wear my suits to lounges or places i go i get compliments everytime, but when i have my 3 piece suit on the comliments elevate instead of 2 or 3 people saying something about my suit, now 5 people express their thoughts.
@MLukacs6 жыл бұрын
I just viewed this video. Very nice explanation, Hugo! I really like your hounds tooth 3-piece suit with the double breasted gilet. I am pleased that you included a warning of the reaction that a man will receive when he begins to wear a 3-piece suit. I eagerly await fall, because the cooler temperatures mean that I can bring out my waistcoats. A way to take 3-piece suits to the next level, without adding much cost, is to experiment with odd waistcoats. When you learn how to match fabric textures and colors to create wonderful layering effects, odd waistcoats provide an outlet for your creativity. In cooler climates, you can layer with knitwear, as well. Thank you once again for outstanding satorial series! Another way to add to your appearance are the little things that, unfortunately, have not been passed down from generation to generation, such as accessories. A well-matched pocket square, tie clip, collar bar, etc, can add the finishing touch to an outfit without going overboard. Another example is how french cuffs with nice pair of cufflinks are too seldom scene these days. Finally, it is very rare to see a man wearing a boutonniere, except at a wedding or other special occasion. I recently purchased a used copy of "A Boutonniere: Style In One's Lapel" and realize what a shame that wearing a fresh flower in one's lapel has gone out of style. I certainly appreciate how you and Sonya have labored to share your knowledge and am looking forward to future videos and articles.

Mr. Jacomet, I love your videos! You have such an inspiring enthusiasm. With the blazer or a tweed jacket I fully agree with you, it‘s definitive something you have to buy after you own your basic grey and navy suit. I have very few suits, but I always try to buy them as 3-piece suit, since you don‘t have to wear the vest but you have the possibility to do so. And the price difference is not too high... For me my third suit would be a double-breasted one, and I‘m pretty sure you will get a lot of comments on that as well. So far I didn’t dare to buy one...
@SARTORIALTALKS6 жыл бұрын
Dear Volker, thank you for your contribution to this discussion. Concerning Double-Breasted suits, 70% of my wardrobe is double-breasted and YES you trigger a lot of comments with them but beware : a DB has to be perfectly cut and fitted. It's one of the most elegant suit for sure, but it does not forgive a bad cut. Yours, Hugo

The stand-alone waistcoat is my go-to piece. The signature of my current style. I think men and women look great in them and could benefit from adding one to their wardrobe. The traveling jacket sounds interesting. Another great video! One has to praise the constistency with which Mr. Jacomet replies to every single comment, a sign of true courtesy. Personally i always prefer 3-piece or double-breasted suits and since nowadays the ''are you going to a wedding'' comments come, even if someone wears just a dress shirt (especially in young generations) the criticism can be handled.

Some even say you can mix the jacket or waistcoat with other suits or trousers, so that give five with one pair of additional trousers (but never the matched waistcoat and jacket with odd trousers). My only three piece is from my Grandfather and being vintage medium brown polyester, not something that can be worn often (haven't for years when lost weight). My grail suit be a three piece tweed fitted to me (nothing worse than a wrong sized vest).

I really wish they'd make waist coats with the suit fabric in the back so it doesn't look as if the jacket is missing if you're not wearing your jacket.

For those wishing to add a waistcoat to an already purchased 2pc suit: MTM double breasted vests are reasonably inexpensive and a light/ice grey or buff/light tan material will pair very well with most suits. A minor amount of care might be taken when doing so if one were to care that they run the risk of people thinking that they are trying to approximate a stroller suit.

As to this comment about wearing the same suit as 2 days ago, what is the cleaning standard for suits?? dry clean after every use? once every couple of not messy wears??
@SARTORIALTALKS6 жыл бұрын
Dear Jorge, please no dry cleaning. Just hang the jacket immediately after coming back home on a proper hanger in wood (not a metallic one) with large pads for the shoulders (take a look at the Hanger Project website), and if possible suspend the hanger close to an open window (or any place with a flow of fresh air). And this will be normally sufficient to maintain your suit in good condition. The ideal being, of course, to have a sufficiently large wardrobe (of, let's say 6 or 7 suits / jackets) in order to leave 5 or 6 days between each time you wear the same suit/jacket. Hope it helps, Cheers, Hugo

Your shirt has a magnificent collar!

Thanks Michael. It's a club collar that is under-butonned (the two buttons are hidden under the collar). Bespoke by Marol in Bologna. Hugo

Can you add a matching waistcoat to that first blue or grey suit?
@SARTORIALTALKS6 жыл бұрын
Of course you can. You should, even ! Hugo

Love the channel and have subscribed. I am getting fitted for my second bespoke suit now. First was a 3 piece navy suit. Current suit being made is a medium gray suit. Do you recommend another 3 piece for a 3rd suit?
@chri7im5 жыл бұрын
Exactly the order I got my suits lol - grey, blue and then blue three-piece

Hugo, What are your thoughts on blazer with peak lapels, single button?
@SARTORIALTALKS6 жыл бұрын
Peak lapels + single button is great. It's a stronger statement than a normal blazer though. But if you can pull it off, go for it of course ! Best, Hugo

I'll add one note to this I find that there are 4 ways of wearing a 3 piece suit. The 3 that were mentioned, and the 4th is the jacket with the waistcoat, with a different trousers or chino.

Hello, Hugo. Do you think it's ok to wear a 3-piece suit with an ascot? Or a 3-piece suit is too formal for the ascot and a tie would be preferred?
@SARTORIALTALKS2 жыл бұрын
Dear Hugo (!), yes it is absolutely ok. Cheers, Hugo

Thank you, Mr. Jacomet for this second part; when I watched the first part, I felt tempted to ask you about vest, since I have never seen you wearing one, so I thought vest were not of your taste. What a mistake! I have two made-to-measure three-piece suits, but recently I bought two vests off-the-rack, so I started trying odd-vests: sports jacket + pants + vest or two-piece suits + vest (contrasting colors, not matching them). Since I now know you like vests, I wanted to ask you, what is your opinion about wearing odd-vests like I mentioned before? Thanks, as always, and cheers from Colombia.
@SARTORIALTALKS6 жыл бұрын
Good Afternoon J., odd vests can work very well indeed. But you have to master the color/pattern mixing rules in order to make the whole outfit harmonious (because if you use it with a sport jacket, it means you'll have to mix three different colors). It requires some experience, but it's possible. Normally, a contrasted vest (worn with a suit) also creates a more "formal" feeling. Cheers, Hugo

Nice video as always. About the three piece suit and odd jacket, it reminds me of odd waistcoat. I don't have a three piece suit but there is this one suit of mine that looks better worn with a combination of an odd wasitcoat. What do you think of odd waistcoat? Is it considered a staple or just a complimentary?
@SARTORIALTALKS6 жыл бұрын
Dear Rio, excellent question. I would not call an odd vest a staple but it's an interesting piece of clothing. Back in the days it was looked upon as a higher level of dressing, because it meant that you could afford a cut in another bolt of fabric (a different from your jacket and trousers). Cheers, Hugo

I like the look of odd waistcoats, so I go for it. I find something elegant about a matching vest and trousers, though.
