Excellent Three things I would add, an emergency check list of what to grab & and go in order of priority, your utilities account numbers & passwords, your hard copy password book. ❤

All excellent adds! Thank you for your suggestions. Love the utility information. I have a grab and go list, but honestly never thought to add a copy in my binder!

7:32 I find January to be a good time to go thru my binder and check that each item is still current. I update family address and phone numbers using Christmas cards and letters, as well as social media.

Love that you have a schedule for the task of reviewing your binder. I have added to my calendar in my phone to be a recurring meeting with myself. This helps me stay on track!

I have a binder set up differently, I am going to reorganize into your 8 sections…KISS! Thank you for suggesting the photo with you and your pet for the binder. May I suggest using the photo and a copy of vaccination records to attach by zip ties to a pet carrier for cats or small animals. I get the 3 ring pencil pouches from office supply stores. I keep extra dog leads in the car so I can eliminate the step of getting a lead if needing to evacuate. Thank you for your content. I am a new subscriber and binge watching your videos from the beginning.😎. PS I sent your video to my adult children and friends.

I highly recommend "Get It Together" by Melanie Cullen (NOLO Publications). Very thorough - slanted toward End-Of-Life (includes funeral, will, body disposition instructions, etc) but still very relevant to evacuation scenarios. She mentions several categories of documents I would not have thought of since they don't affect me, but very important to others. i.e. military discharge, adoption papers, divorce documents, foster children records. Can't recommend the book enough AND there are forms in the back! 😀 Oh, wait, the above mentioned documents are featured on your pdf checklist. I spoke too soon! Still, the Get It Together book is invaluable.

Such a binder is helpful in an emergency hospitalization with the addition of a few letters of instructions. The person watching your house will need to know your pets and be instructed on their routines. The person seeing to your bills (while you can't) needs instructions and dates, etc. What is house maintenance routine? In caring for the house, what tools and products do you want used and where are they? A different angle, you get a call that an older love one has been hospitalized, can you think clearly enough to pack well for your trip and stay in their local, (including your phone and it's charger)? Would you have other persons' current phone numbers with you? How long would it take you to get on the road? Would you have the finances for that?

Wills and powers of attorney, etc., come to mind too. Hopefully won’t need them, but may as well keep copies of them alongside the other important things

Great video Lora! Thanks for the checklist - that is super helpful! I'd love to see a video specifically on what to do to prepare for or manage a cyber attack - like what's happening today with Windows... :( If you've hidden this info in one I haven't watched yet, please let me know

Thanks for the question. Nothing specific on cyber events yet. But I will definitely be working on some stuff in the future for that!

In an emergency, your area might not have cell service/internet; electricity may be down.

Absolutely! In a grab and go scenario, we are hoping to be able to go far enough to get to a place with power. I think the biggest danger is not have access to important medical records if the power was out. Thanks for watching.

1:58 Remember if you have to leave permanently, Colleges re-issue diplomas with the word "copy" plastered across them. You need your birth certificate to get other identification re-issued. Do you have sentimental items, like photos scanned and backed up to the cloud, (an external hard drive is handy)? I would suggest a portable fire resistant lock box. With it being among the load you pack into your car.

All great points. We keep some of our originals in a small fire proof box that we could grab and go if we felt like it was going to be a permanent leaving situation. The good news is, generally (although not always), if you were leaving for good you’d have a little more time to get stuff. The sentimental stuff is the hardest! We have a get out of the house list based on how much time we have to leave. If we have more than about 30 min, all the sentimental stuff gets packed! Appreciate your thoughts and advice.
