I found this video because I am planning cross gable wall dormer for a shed I am building this spring. I figured the hip beams and jack trusses would be the hardest part to figure out. So I was thrilled when you got to that part…and your only advice was “this will be the headrest part to figure out.” 😅 But seriously, great video.

I would like to see the framing when an addition with a gable roof ends at the corner of the rake of the existing gable end. Not offset as you have previously shown. Would you frame the valley similar to a hip, with the valley coming all the way to the very corner?

Could you show example of floor framing of a small suite over a garage where the suite floor area in smaller and centered within the garage. IE, 26" x 26" garage with a 18" x 18' suite above and centered. Interested in the structural requirements......

How do you frame windows/doors and ensure 16 inches on center?

The doors and window can be positioned after you layout the 16 inch on center wall studs. Provide more details if I didn't answer your question.

If I wanted to build this but with a 430sqft garage with 9 foot ceilings on the bottom and higher walls on the top, would that greatly change the framing layout?

I don't think it would, but the design would need to work with your measurements.

I envisioned and searched for "roof with four gables", but I envisioned a square building like a four square house with it's hip roof, but the hip rafters would also be the valley rafters with all four sides identical..
