I have to build exactly this with a few tweaks. Thank you for another great video and great ideas for handling the added loads for the garage door wall

Glad it was helpful and remember, construction methods use in this video might require structural engineering.

Glad I live in a rural area without any restrictions at all...only thing I'm required to do is have someone do a drainage test if I'm installing a septic system...other than that, I can do whatever I want...

Just keep in mind these are only examples of how it can be built and you might need more structural strength and engineering.

Looking to design an art studio with a small kitchen, bathroom/shower, and a loft with a dormer. Your garage series really helped me visualize and think it through, especially the stairway location. I'm trying to decide between using ICF or wood frame since the cost seems almost equal right now. Thank you!

Happy New Year. Do have an estimate of what the lumber cost would currently be for this project approximately? Thanks, Mike

No, I will make a lumber list if I get over 100 viewers asking for it on this video. Not in the series, but for this one and Happy New Year and thanks for watching.

I would love a lumber list! I am planning an addition for a vaulted living room with a loft! Can I pay you to design it?? And write up the blue prints?

I would contact a local designer and engineer.

Ok most of your plans for framing are great however some of the building is not what a normal framing is done on a house or garage. I'm talking about the wall you have hanging down next to the landing. Normally it is on top of the landing. Also if your going to have a laminate beam going all the way across the front then you can eliminate the garage door header. We also have out outlookers spaced so that the roof plywood has one on the seam as well as between seams.

what i don"t get : 2x12 for the flloor joist. Where do you find 2X12 by 20 feet? Here, in Quebec, the max is 16' (at least at home depot)
@gregvancom
@gregvancom 2 жыл бұрын
I understand and if you can't get it locally, then you might have to ship it in or use Truss Joist. You could always make the garage 16 wide and remember that you might need larger lumber also for the walls, floors and rafters.

in your opinion could this be built without a ridge beam, and instead use plywood gussets at the ridge along with collar ties. thank you. you are providing me lots of great ideas for my upcoming garage build.

Hey Gregvancom, what’s the general rule for collar ties. I know in other videos you’ve said they can be every 36” or 48” and not needed on each rafter. My question is how close to the ridge and short can the collar ties be, to be effective. I don’t want to take out too much of the cathedral ceiling headspace
@gregvancom
@gregvancom 2 жыл бұрын
Most can be spaced a maximum distance of 48 inches on center and collar ties can go to just under the ridge.

I am interested in not just vaulted ceilings but cathedral arches... And how to use them in construction, be it decorative, or structurally
@gregvancom
@gregvancom 2 жыл бұрын
If you can, provide more details or email me some pictures of where the arches would be located and designed.

so with this design how do you recommend venting. looks like soffits are blocked and the gables have post
@gregvancom

If you drywall ceiling, then vents might be required.

Looking to build a similar garage but need 12 ft lower ceiling height for car lift and a 34 ft length. What is the roof pitch and center 2nd floor headroom ?
@gregvancom
@gregvancom 2 жыл бұрын
You can make the roof pitch what ever you want, but I think this on is a 8:12 roof pitch.
