While some aspects of aging are hard to picture and are the topic of ongoing research, one that we know quite a bit about is muscle.
But muscle is complex. Not only is it always adapting to how we use it, our muscle also changes multiple times over the course of our lives.
Today, we’ll learn about how our muscles change from the time we’re just a fetus, to our last mortal moments. There are three types of muscle: cardiac muscle, smooth muscle, and skeletal muscle.
As you might’ve guessed, cardiac muscle exists in our hearts. Smooth muscle can be found around our blood vessels and certain organs. And finally skeletal muscle is the type of muscle that lets you move you body, and it is also the focus of this episode.
Skeletal muscle is the most massive group of tissue in your body accounting for about forty percent of your body weight, so where does it come from?
Find out the answer and more in this Human.

“Sarcopenia, also known as muscle loss, is a common condition that affects 10% of adults who are over 50 years old. While it can decrease life expectancy and quality of life, there are actions you can take to prevent and even reverse the condition.”
What is muscle atrophy?

“There are three types of muscle atrophy: physiologic, pathologic, and neurogenic. Physiologic atrophy is caused by not using the muscles enough. This type of atrophy can often be reversed with exercise and better nutrition.”

It did go with the title, but made the focus on how biology and your life cycle directly impacts it. He basically just said: be active, lift weights and eat right... or you'll eventually turn into an old raisin that probably won't even be able to wipe your own ass with some assistance. There isn't some secret to build muscle.

Awesome video I'm happy you emphasised the adage "if you don't use it, you lose it." Great video! Glad you focused on the, 'if you don't use it, you lose it'. So many people have no idea how little you really need to do to not lose as much as our sick society shows us. There are PLENTY of 80+ showing just the opposite. I just find it's hard to get people to change their ways, the older they get, regardless of the benefits. So, the benefits of exercise need to be drilled in to our heads earlier on, like we first start going to school.

Factoring in an energetic lifestyle as you go is the only way to maximize your time on this rock and maximizing your energy on others is the only thing you'll be remembered for

@WeatherManToBe
@WeatherManToBe 4 жыл бұрын
If it's big enough to notice a shape difference, then no, it won't go back to the way it was. However, it will 'fully heal' in that it be functional, just misshapen. There is an interesting push to not have surgical intervention for partial or ever total tears now a days.

I thought pulled a tore a peck yesterday , but I just needed to warm up better, ...I do have a partial bicep tear , but fortunately it was on my dominate side, I think I also might have a partial tricep tear on my dominate side idk? Either way simple answer they technically don't not on your own, but luckily for me , the side that has tears is still bigger and stronger, ...there just not as pretty as the other side. Yeah I've gotten pulled pecs a lot although idk? If any of them were tears? Idk? I don't see a difference really. Yeah u will probably have that forever.

I was excited by the title then disappointed by the content. The world of exercise science is light years beyond this video’s content. I was hoping to hear about mTor pathway discoveries, new hormonal influence knowledge, resistance training study data, anything that was actually scientific regarding muscular hypertrophy. Not all of us nerds with a doctorate push pencils all day, some of us bench 300 lbs in our spare time and love this stuff. I would LOVE a reboot attempt at this video, maybe start with Jeff Nippard as a launch pad to assimilate data.

He addressed in the video. They don't know. This is the part of the video where he mentions ongoing studies of Hyperplasia. Hyperplasia would be literally adding new muscles not just growing already existing ones. Great thing about nutrition science and athlete science is everyone is still learning everything. More experiments are needed on a lot of subjects. Like do we really need 1g of protein per lb of body weight to pack on size? Or can the body generate muscles by stretching them then filling them back up with more blood

In my late teens & early 20s I felt very weak..but now I’m older and gained muscle through exercise, my muscles twitch faster than b4 when i sprint 🤔.. I feel lighter & more agile 🤷🏽‍♂️so people, exercise a bit.. i think it works 🫡😃

i have pretty bad RA and repetitive motion triggers it. I also have an extremely fast metabolism. So, since i can't work out anymore (can barely even grasp a weight or put weight on my wrists or shoulders in any direction, my metabolism has completely taken my muscles from me. I was lean at 6' and 180lbs, now...skinny at 6' and 130. Feeling hopeless. I've watched every youtube video i can and talked to experts. i'm just destined to be a scrawny, weak, dude in pain all day everyday. effin, woah is me.
