I'm 78 now, three years after a prostate cancer diagnosis, surgery, nodal radiation, then 20 months of ADT which took my testosterone to "undetectable" levels below 7 ng/dl. I gained 30 pounds of belly fat on ADT despite regular gym and aerobic activities. Now I am on TRT to restore my testosterone, going back to the gym every other day. I have lost the 30 fat pounds, so I am now working to restore the muscle tissue I lost on ADT. I track my workout with software so I will know what exercises are working, and which need adjustment or switching to something better. The constant bombardment of pictures of jacked skin-tight teens on gear, while looking for exercise and diet help on the net can be discouraging, because you know that can't be you, not matter what you do. Figuring your realistic limits is harder, what "should" the tradeoff be between calorie-limiting dieting for fat control, versus providing the protein calories for muscle growth and repair. What is my "maintenance" level of nutrition? Can I really "lean bulk", and if so, how much protein do I need to do it. Muscle gain is so slow, it is hard to tell whether you are eating right or not. So far, after 1 year of TRT to "high normal" levels, my PSA has remained "undetectable", but the threat of recurrence is always in the back of my mind. Nevertheless, I am plugging away at it, trying to put some lean muscle pounds on my 5'9" 146 pound body, to avoid sarcopenia and becoming that stumbling old guy who falls and breaks his hip, and ends up in the cemetery.

I'm 58 now, been working out from when I was 16. HAd a carcrash and revalidation, and after that, I picked up the iron. I tell anyone to do something for muscles becaus with muscles it is the best way to grow old. A sidenote, I never took any PED's but do take creatine.

Standing desks? I have to draw the line there. I'll walk 10-15 minutes after every meal, spend 50 minutes a day on a bike. Lift 90 minutes twice a week. But STANDING DESKS. Really? As I am a retired Professor who still reads and writes quite a bit, the idea of getting up and doing exercise every thirty minutes, lol. Sure, I'm down with that. If you have to THINK or be prodded to do something every half hour then why even live. I have to draw the line somewhere between sanity and INSANITY. To me, every 30 minutes smacks of obsessive compulisive behavior, NEUROSES, if you are CONSTANTLY worrying about standing up or doing something. OMG! The adrenaline, lol!

I appreciate you for sharing and agree that having a standing desk isn't going to make or break someones fitness routine. But something is better than nothing. I have never had a standing desk myself. But with that being said, I know several friends who do have them and find them helpful. Just curious for those reading the comments, do you have a standing desk? And if so, do you like it and find it helpful?

@@TotalFitnessBodybuilding lol! My wife uses a standing desk. But I still have to drag her to the gym to lift weights twice a week. She resists RESISTANCE training? But she is at the age where it is REALLY necessary for bone and structural health.

Dude. I acquired 3 blood clots from sitting for long periods.

@@Smokeycam1 More info would be needed in your case. I know dozens of people who sit for hours, exercise some and never have blood clots. Diet and genetics play a part here. As mentioned above. I may sit for long periods BUT I have four periods of prolonged movement everyday for a total of 90 minutes of exercise every day seven days a week. In addition I train with weights two days a week for a total of three hours. That should be sufficient to prevent any blod clots and no one in my family has a history of blood clots, no one. IT is NOT necessary to OBSESS about getting up every 30 minutes unless your blood work is not in the normal range and you have other factors at play.
