Crazy is hard to write because real crazy often isn't a logical or meaningful process. To make a character, the progress has to flow from something the audience will see as authentic.
@MrMango331 Жыл бұрын
Madness always has a method but not necessarily to the one witnessing it.
@MarvinPowell1 Жыл бұрын
In my opinion, it's easy to write insanity. You just have to give the audience valid and logical explanations for why they're acting the way they do, which sounds ironic cause it is. "Real crazy" isn't just randomness; it always stems from something and has a reason for it. Then again, maybe it's easy to me because I've never been sane.
@Notsogoodguitarguy Жыл бұрын
Crazy often is quite logical in a sense. It's just that perception of reality is warped. Like, someone that's crazy and dependent on someone else might see that someone else show a hint of affection to someone else, and the crazy person start to spiral into thoughts about how they're not loved anymore, losing the other person, ending up alone, etc. Often times it's rational thought a different lens.
@onkelpappkov266611 ай бұрын
The difficulty is providing conflicting perspectives without contradiction. You have to show the "crazy" perspective make sense and you have to show a "normal" perspective that also makes sense, and both have to look believable.

She doesn't have anything bipolar. Bipolar people oscillate between states of deep depression and overstimulated dangerously optimistic (wasting large sums of money, becoming nymphomaniac for that time...), usually going from one to the other extreme for weeks and then going to the opposite extreme... She looks more like a Borderline Personality Disorder, that makes the person to have hyperbolic reactions and feelings that are excessive in comparison to what caused them.... 🤔
@Ashbrash1998 Жыл бұрын
In the book it appeared she had bipolar as she did have bouts of depression and bipolar isn't as simple as you portray it though you aren't wrong. It could be cyclothymia, which is less severe and debilitating. Which lasts a lesser amount of time. Then again it probably isn't the only thing she has considering all the trauma and betrayals she went through also affecting her psyche as well as her upbringing. So diagnosing would be very difficult as it would be a giant umbrella
@KS-PNW9 ай бұрын
There's multiple types of bipolar the large massive swings are typical of bipolar 1 but there's also bipolar 2. Bipolar with psychotic features, cyclothymia, dysthymia etc. That's not even getting into complex PTSD etc which can present similar symptoms. The book Annie is explicitly bipolar. Castle rock's Annie not as much..
@anniealexander99116 ай бұрын
Despite rage, or a temper, not being a symptom of any form of bipolar disorder, lazy writers persist in using rage to indicate bipolar disorder. Rage, or a temper, does not indicate "bipolar tendencies" (whatever that means). No other symptoms are mentioned. Annie Wilkes is isolated and separated from society, and contact with other people is like an anchor for remaining attached to reality
@reverse_engineeredАй бұрын
As someone with bipolar myself, I appreciate this clarification. People think bipolar means sudden whiplash between exuberant and aggressive, but nothing could be further from the truth. The two states are what you said: uninhibited to the point of being self-destructive and overwhelmingly inhibited to the point that you can't bring yourself to do anything. And they don't turn on the flip of a switch. Moods often drift slowly over months or years, though for some people like myself, it may be days or weeks. How extreme those moods can become varies greatly from person to person. I have a relatively mild case that I lived with just fine without knowing it for almost 40 years. On depressive days I may just sit around the house doing nothing because I don't find any joy in anything. On hypomanic days I might get into a new hobby, stay up all night writing code, or binge watch Filmento. 😁Most days I'm just normal. My sister who is a bit more serious went years without any issues, but she spent two years badly depressed to the point of needing to be hospitalized and spent several months hypomanic to the point that she maxed out her credit card buying stuff on eBay, or more recently, became quickly and deeply involved with a new romantic partner. That said, that's only when it's uncontrolled. Once doctors realize you are bipolar, it can often be controlled quite well. With the help of medication, my symptoms are now so minor that I maybe feel a bit down for a few days but I can still work and play and everything else - it's like I didn't get a good night's sleep - while on the flip side I might be a bit excited and might stay up late some nights playing a captivating video game. Even without medication more minor cases can be reasonably controlled. The most important part is knowing that it's happening. You can seek help if you know you need it. Others around you can be your guide and help you make better judgments when you are unable to. Many people have it without it being a debilitating disease in much the same way that people may have ADHD or autism. I went almost 40 years without knowing I had hit. My wife and I joked that I had "male PMS" because I would have a few days of depression about once a month. If I spent a week on a bit of a high, it wouldn't seem much different from anyone else who find something new and exciting in their life. Some days it might be a bit _too_ excited, but most of the time you wouldn't think it out of the ordinary. At times I might be quite mellow, while other times I might be quite excited - it wouldn't seem strange unless you knew me long enough to know that I wasn't consistently either one. I didn't know I had it until a traumatic episode a few years ago led me to get help with anxiety and the medication put me into a clearly hypomanic state, which was a clear sign that I was bipolar. A similar thing happened to my sister when her postpartum depression was so bad that she got treatment for it and it triggered a particularly by hypomanic state that lasted several months before she got help. In both cases, we managed quite alright until something serious set us off and that's often how it goes. I can think of a few nasty bumps throughout my life that are likely explained by bipolar, but only a few - the rest of my life has been fairly smooth sailing.

Hi, your video brings to mind one of the towering examples of craziness in cinema (even though I've never actually seen this part of the novel filmed) is Lennie from John Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men". For some reason, film makers overlook Lennie's psychotic break at the novel's end in which he hallucinates seeing, first, his dead aunt, and then, a giant, talking rabbit. What's great about Lennie's story, IMHO, is that his madness doesn't stem from what's been done to him but, rather, from what he's done to others, his guilt over disappointing those who cared and care for him, and his realization that everything he's dreamed of and worked for has, by his own actions, become impossible to achieve. Unlike Stephen King's Wilkes, whose defeat the audience yearns for, Lennie is a sympathetic madman, and his end is tragic. Thanks, you're glorious, good-bye. Signed: I think it's a shame Steinbeck, TMK, never wrote a horror story and Stephen King, IMHO, hasn't written anything good. SB, FOFY.
