Feeding girls/guys the “I can change you” tripe is what encourages people to stay in abusive relationships. This movie is awful
@turtal25954 жыл бұрын
well technically you can take part in changing em although its a gamble. If you dump them and people keep on dumping em for the same reason maybe they can change then? Edit: At least you would be saving some poor soul experiencing being in an abusive relationship, and you'd have the experience to look out for signs that a relationship is abusive and leave. its a win win...I guess?
@jimothyworldbuilding36644 жыл бұрын
You're more likely to change them by turning them down. The reason people become assholes is because they don't see any incentive in being kind and see incentive in being cruel. Remove the incentive of girls getting with guys who choose to be assholes while spouting that nonsense through informing girls of the fact that "no you can't change him you dimwit" and BANG less assholes.

@fatuusdottore5 жыл бұрын
raxahax Sexual harassment was painted as wrong, though.
@fatuusdottore5 жыл бұрын
Cenoreira It really fucking doesn’t. It’s a film. It’s like watching a superhero film and thinking you can fly because Superman does it. The film is cringe, but even more cringe is people seriously believing that people emulate what they see in films. I loved Requiem for a Dream, particularly Harry and Marion. I didn’t end up becoming a prostitute of stealing my mum’s TV for heroin money, funny that. It’s a weirdly conservative idea that liberals have for some reason adopted, that “films cause violence,” etc. That’s not what happens at all, and people who are prone to being in abusive relationships often have major issues themselves (I should know, I end up in toxic friendships from time to time due to the time with my abusive mum making me think certain things are okay when they aren’t/forgiving things that really go over the line and even thinking I’m the only one who’s done something wrong, when the other person clearly did wrong too, and in some cases, deliberate damage.) In my case, I have to resolve the issues that make me attractive to particularly female narcissists, which I suspect have to do with my mum being one/my experience living just under her and having no one else to model what a healthy relationship with other women should be like. Add bullying/isolation to that, and I also have underdeveloped social skills, so in theory, I know what to do, but I am afraid to take action if it involves talking to people. So, a film like this can’t “make” you think you can fix someone. If you don’t have the family history of abusive dynamics and grew up in a normal/healthy/loving home, the chances of you getting into an abusive relationship are pretty low (it can happen, but chances are you know how you should be treated and you don’t have major self-esteem/isolation/trauma-related mental health issues the predator can learn and later use against you.) You have to have some vulnerability, because a predatory person won’t pursue anything with someone they can’t manipulate or exploit. It’s like animal predation - they select the sick/frail ones/alone ones, because the strong ones will run or defend themselves/have a support network to defend them (and that’s another thing, if you share friends, the manipulator will absolutely turn them against you by telling them lies.) So, TL;DR films don’t influence much of anything. Life experiences do. There are patterns to these things that Tumblrinas, with their limited understanding of psychology, don’t understand. So, while this film is absolute garbage, it’s just a story. You need to calm down. I’ve actually been in highly abusive dynamics (mostly family and some friendships, although I did have one guy I was talking to/romantically interested in show signs of being pathologically controlling, but it stands), and the film is just a film. It has no bearing on real life.

It's not weird.. I totally understand that and there was already their "rules"
@Mitters5 жыл бұрын
Without being controlling, I totally get why people don't want their friends dating their siblings. My brother has dated a few of my friends, and I am no longer friends with them. Not my choice either, they just didn't want to come over anymore because "they might run into my brother". And didn't want to see me because I "reminded them of him". Etc. Etc. When they'd come over to hang with me, they'd either hang out with my brother instead, or he'd join us. Its also weird to have your friend knowing what your sibling is doing at all times. It's very intrusive. And vice versa. I dated a few of my brother's friends. Same sort of deal. My brother and I share tons of friends, and we all like to hangout. But it's nice to be able to have friends that your DONT share. It also makes you feel less significant in your friend's life. You don't know if they're coming over to see you, or your sibling. And the 3 of you hanging out feels weird ? Sharing isn't always caring. The brother in this film went about it in an INSANE way, but also, growing up under a golden boy can be difficult. It's likely his parents constantly compared him, his peers would as well, and the teachers definitely did. My brother is an actual genius, and in school teachers would constantly tell me how much they "expected" from me, because he was so intelligent. He was an All-star athlete, and helped our team to maybe district championships. I am a potato. And now he's in the armed forces, and serving our country. My parents couldn't be more proud. All I can say is, I'm super happy he has a gf now that isn't one of my friends. I've lost enough of them. And he lives far enough away, that I'm not constantly compared to his "greatness". :P needless to say I sympathize with the brother 😂, but he's also a whiney cuck the whole movie. In all my situations above, I am insanely proud of my brother. I love him, and spending time with him. And I even introduced the girls he ended up dating. And if they couldn't be friends with me after they broke up, that's on them. :P I guess they weren't great friends to begin with right ? #endrant

What's also terrifying is right after he slams his hand on the car and yells for her to get inside with the most threatening voice imaginable, he doesn't even take her home or somewhere where she'll feel safe, but to a secluded area where they're both out of the view of any witnesses and it's just the two of them. That's a girls worst nightmare. The movie tries to play this moment off as a romantic kick-starter, but to women, this scenario ends with us in a body bag and a nationwide search.

SO MANY ALLUSIONS TO NOAH BEING AN ABUSER a) Nobody in that girl's life wants her to be in a relationship with Noah, although they say that it's her choice, they actively tell Ellie she should stay away from him. b) When Lee walks in, why the hell would he immediately jump to his BROTHER HITTING A GIRL IN THE FACE SO HARD THAT SHE BLED unless that's something he would be capable of? 3) Noah clearly gives no shits about consent. He beat those guys up because he's extremely possessive. 🐄) SHE DIDN'T WANT TO GET IN THE CAR, SHE WAS THREATENED. That’s how you end up with the first loser you see and later wonder how you missed all those red flags.
