I think for my own build I will be adding a steel plate to the back side for the bolts to run thru. And I'll look for a couple garbage bed frames and use 6ft long pieces of mystery metal angle iron along each side of the board for extra support. Thanks for the inspiration 👍

Good tip about the countersink bit to center the hole in the wood! I would like to do some ramps for my Bolens, but at 1,100lbs, it might not be strong enough with bare pine/fir 2x10. I did make some short ramps for my car (4 foot / for an oil change) using 2x10 rough maple stud (real 2 in thick). They don't bend while running on it with my 3,700 lbs Q50! Always good to see you working new projects, you always have a great hack to reveal! Thanks!

I have two pair of the Aluminum ones that just unfold and to me, they are the best ones built. Paid 25.00 for one and 20.00 used like new for the other at a garage sale years ago. Very well made and will never break. I used wood ones in my younger days. Nice Build.

I always enjoy your videos Steve thank you. Now I'm not a certified RBP (ramp building professional) however I think you're going to find those ramps slippery especially on a frosty fall day. I've seen a great idea to make ramps have more grip...they used roofing shingles. Layer them as you would layer a roof, trim the sides and bingo no issues. Anyway, just thought I'd suggest it, no worries either way brother. CHeers.

Yes your correct but if I paint the top and throw in some sand it would be better , maybe some of that no slip tape PA sells if it will stick. Cheers bud.

I really like the way that you use that great electrical reciprocal saw ( sawzall ) LOL I'm trying desperately to convince Joe to use that type of saw !!! How's she goin'? Nice idea for the water/traction grooves!!! I think that will work just fine!!! If you find the 2 X 10 flexing too much, maybe a 2 X 4 on edge on the under side, just to stiffen it up a bit, would be a consideration. You know, a strong back, as we in the trades call them!! LOL Great video. BTW you breaker tripping: can you plug the vac into another circuit? That'll probably solve that issue!!! Take 'er easy!!!

Thanks Mike , that breaker needs to be changed as its tripping off at 9 amps. It's the style you plug into a fuse socket but generally I do plug the vac into a different outlet.

No I didnt because in my situation they will be used on sod at my remote camp so they will sink into the sod a bit and stop the ramps from sliding back. Yes metal at both ends on a hard surface is best . Cheers

I have some very LONG wood ramps that I want to cut down maybe throw some hinges on them so I can fold them up for better storage but I can't think/come up with a way to keep them folded up and somehow connected/locked so they don't come apart? Any ideas?

Hi CK I would put 2 beefy strap hinges on the bottom side and butt the two sections tight before you screw on the hinges. The planks extended will drop a bit at the hinges but bind at the join and as long as it's not a very heavy load it should be fine and fold up nicely for storage.

At the folded ends I'd just use a bungee cord or a length of velcro tape , that holds great too.

@@kittyhawk7060 I just went to harbor freight and got two ramps for like $69. They stick in the ground pretty well. I could see two wood planks working fine just drill two holes and straps like you described. You could also put metal bracket feet with edges. Use treads or tread tape so you can walk it.

@@me37594 15 amp circuit. It has a resettable fuse breaker that's weakened over time and trips before 15 amps . I've since replaced it with a new one.

If you are interested in building anything out of wood, you will need at least a cordless drill, circular saw (or jigsaw), safety glasses, and drill bits. I would recommend getting a combo set where you can get the cordless drill and cordless impact driver. A mistake I made was getting my favorite brand of each tool. I should have got all 1 brand so the batteries were interchangeable. :)
