I can't stop thinking about how at some point it cuts to a POV of Marcille looking at Farlin's behind crawling for 3 seconds like "Marcille this is your core memory? 🤨"
@Vespuchian11 ай бұрын
The way they used body language in the flashback to show Falin coming alive outside of the school was really great. She's clearly a physical/practical sort of learner who actually _observes_ the world around her. It also illustrated really well that no matter how much she might have read, Marcille actually doesn't know a lot, best exemplified when she can't identify raspberries. To her great credit she acknowledges this failing and endeavours to learn more. You can already see how the two girls would compliment each other's skills when working together.

I love the amount of love the series is getting in the animation department from trigger. Dungeon Meshi deserves it.

I love how our first real introduction to Falin as a person comes through the eyes of Marcille. With Laios, the audience can, and likely has already tried to, fill in a lot of gaps just with the information that they're siblings. So focusing on Falin's character completely separate from Laios presents a whole unexpected deminsion of her character to the audience. I also think the little Farcille interactions are absolutely adorable ^_^

My favorite part of this episode dealt with Marcille’s fight in completely character appropriate ways. Chilchuck is panicking and flailing, Senshi is desperately getting the fire going, Marcille’s doing pretty amazing all things considered, and Laios is just waiting, watching for the moment he can intervene.

One more thing i love about the Undine in this episode is the sound design of its blast. It sounds like a high-pitched scream, but at the same time it's clear that it's just the high-pressure water cutting through the air fast and precisely enough to make a whistling sound.
@knutaf11 ай бұрын
Man, this was a cool episode with some really great scenes, especially during the Undine fight. You pointed out a lot of things that I didn't notice. Believe it or not, I do not go back and frame-by-frame the show to see all the details, so I get a ton out of it when you do that for us. My wife messaged you on tumblr the other day and yeah, our household is definitely all about "honey wake up, new swamp jawn just dropped". Dungeon Meshi is officially "swamp jawn prequel" around here. I got my sister and her husband into DM last week and also got them into your analysis vids, so I hope you can maintain the energy to keep these going. These are like the definitive companion analysis to the show proper. I said it before, but I genuinely think these enhance the show by filling in all this additional context and pointing out many of the cool details that are easy to miss. For example, I never would have noticed the cool touch that the undine got smaller as it spent its water mass on an attack. So awesome. You've mentioned before about trying to keep your videos short, but well... why though? haha. I at least wouldn't mind longer videos with more of your thoughts. Just throwing it out there
@JohnSmith4237411 ай бұрын
See if you can keep from reading the manga. I went through the whole manga after watching the first 4 episodes to see if the story is any good. Too many anime start strong and just end poorly. Happy to say that Dungeon Meshi stays strong throughout and has a good ending. Now I wish I could wipe memory to watch the anime without knowing what happens next for extra fun. The adventures stay colourful and varied, so the author is clearly tuned into what makes this genre fun
@cristophernunez77867 ай бұрын
I thought he was going to talk about how the use of Marcille's blood gives us an idea of how powerful Undine's attack is. First crystal clear water came out and then water with blood. So the attack is so light and powerful that it passes through her cleanly and advances a distance, before her body even bleeds.

I loved the scene with Marcelle crawling behind Falin. I feel like I've seen this scene so many times in anime with the difference being the fabric in those anime would be clinging to the characters butt effectively showing everything underneath the fabric. We don't even get the suggestion of butt cheek separation and the way they use the sun to light the scene feels comical to me for some reason. The Dungeon Meshi scene we get feels so innocent and wonder filled as Marcelle is crawling into a brand new world.

Yeah, mostly twitter and sakugabooru dot com. TRIGGER posts 4 unfinished keyframes on their twitter for each episode when it comes out, with the names of the key animators. Some of the animators will also post little illustrations based on the cuts that they worked on, which TRIGGER will retweet. Sakugabooru has animation clips that you can search, and people will tag who (or who they think) did some of the cuts. Beyond that, AniDB and AnimeNewsNetwork both have general staff information of varying levels of reliability XD

I believe she is around 80, but for later plot reasons and because of her elven heritage this is seen as being pretty young.

It's not obvious because Marcille's haircut in flashbacks make her look a lot younger, but there's actually a fair bit of age difference in this flashback, even proportionally to their respective races: Falin is in her pre-teens, whereas Marcille is in her late teens, if not young adult. She's already a graduate and is joining the lesson on special request.

HOLY SHIT! What if the mandrake harvesting dog in the anime knows what's going to happen to them, and thus has that sour expression, because they keep reviving and using the same dog???? I don't remember if the dungeon holds onto all souls or just human souls tho, so I could be wrong.
@kaiyagazley85028 ай бұрын
They say in a later episode that only human souls are bound, buuut it's also implied that some elf-made artifacts are able to stop a soul from moving on (the ghost in the graveyard's ring). So maybe they've given the dog something specifically so they can reuse it over and over :(
@JohnSmith4237411 ай бұрын
@Swamp Jawn Thank you for covering this series. Everything is well-done in this series, but as with episode 3, episode 8 has a team take over the action (2nd half of ep 8, and all of ep 3) where the faces change too much. It becomes stylized, and the consistency in model face fidelity suffers a lot, but they stylize it to the point where it becomes the artistic choice. You could see from the preview images that Marcille's face was much more indented near the eyes and chin, he irises lean towards her ears, making the head look even more V-tapered toward the chin. I dont mind the Trigger style on the bodies, but the faces make it a tiny bit jarring. Also, many people don't notice or can't quite put their finger on it, which is sad. I saw the same thing for the first time in Gurren Laggann episode 8 (that director also did an episode of Dororo 2019) where it seems like the GOAL is to put his signature slant on it with the warping of the models. Not my favourite thing.
@JohnSmith4237411 ай бұрын
Hoping that Trigger do the upcoming dragon fight more in the style of the opening sequence of the series, but highly doubt they will. We've already seen the frames where Marcille blows the bridge in trailer #1 and it's the same Marcille face from episode 8. I can get over it, and for sure it's more effort to draw the manga faces in action, but just a little sad
