How timely! Read a headline today about how Google may be focusing less on Assistant as they focus on Bard, and Google Home is really the single point of failure for my smart home. Will be looking into these with interest.

I might be able to use this for my R2 build as I'd like it to have some voice recognition... but I'd like to swap out the human response voice to R2 sounds.

Surprised you went for a more obscure compute unit instead of trying the more popular raspberry pi first. Why?
@orionstoy Жыл бұрын
lol yeah go out and buy a 200 to 250 dollar "35" dollar computer and hope it works and the usb ports are functional or you will have a 200 dollar very poor paperweight. Pi's have gone under .. they are useless and not near what they used to be.

@@sniperpaddy3271 at the time I was planning the project the Pi4 was still hard to get and the Latte Panda v1 was one of the least expensive alternatives. It has a coprocessor for running GPIO so could lead to some interesting addons. By experimenting with alternative solutions that's how we gain experience. Just using the same old boards would be boring.

Could you do a follow up video about how to add extra commands?

Mycroft calls these Skills. There is a Hello World example that can be seen in their skills marketplace. I might need to create my own skill to complete my ambitions.

I have 6 pis that I bought about a year back right before they went crazy on price. I built a cluster with them, but I am concerned with privacy on my echos... so I think I will see about replacing them.

Mycroft being shut down not to long before this video was posted doesn’t effect any of this?

The website is still up and we can still order, is it truly shut down?

cool project. I'd build it into a Star Trek Communicator together with the usual ability to pretend talking to a Star Ship and getting clips from the series. I'll actually plan doing this, I just don't know if all this stuff would fit into one of the cheap 10.- small communicators...
@Workshopshed Жыл бұрын
The PiZero probably won't have enough power to make that work so you might want to think about having the communicator as a remote for the main project. Mycroft do warn not to use BlueTooth microphones but I'm not sure why. So perhaps a wireless headset could be used, connected to USB audio?
