If you get $943 SSI they add / round you up an extra 25 percent which brings you to roughly $1200 .. I just went through this and the HUD Homeownership specialist did this all in front of me .. next you will have to go to a handful of classes once a month …im in WV . Also they added me to the Home Blend program which pays your Down payment and they pay half of closing

I rode the merry go round for a few years. This is what I learned. Not all PHAs offer the program. Don't say why. I was referred to a lender in one county and it was a slum that was offered. Also suggested in same affluent county that I should be ready with at least $20,000. for downpayment. Another county told me that they'd done very few of those-1-2 and must live there for a year prior. If you are disabled or a senior on a fixed income, the length is for the duration. Dont have to worry about 15 year deadline. The same affluent county also does their share of segregating under the guise of deciphering median annual income in your neighborhood of choice. In other words...I have given up, even after attending the homeownership workshop and receiving certificate for completing the initial eligibility guidelines. I may try again but my local HUD office doesn't provide FSS either.

I am renting in SF Bay area right now. I lost my job and only work as a caregiver but do not make enough to pay my rent. I have cleaned out my savings trying to pay rent and I am on my last legs. I am officially 100% of FPL and am looking into applying for social services for EBT, rent assistance, etc... Can I apply for Section 8 even though I am renting right now. I have lived at my place for over 10 years and can't afford any place else right now.

Whats the maximum amount they allow to buy a house thru section 8? is there cap i understand different states have different rules but can they allow a million dollar house? Yes i get you'll pay high property tax for higher priced homes
