Got nice clear tubes with high specs with my new TNV\DTNVGs, 2600+ FOM! They’re amazing, to say the least! Areas that I needed IR illum with my former ITT thin filmed green tubes with 1900+ FOM, I don’t need the IR illum with my L3 filmless tubes. They’re that good! If anyone, that uses nods professionally, is on the fence about the extra cost or lead times for L3 filmless, it’ll all be worth it. You’ll experience the difference! Photos don’t do it justice.

@@turnitdowntyler Awesome to hear man. Question: what the hell is the difference between filmed vs unfilmed? I've looked EVERYWHERE and can't seem to find an explanation. Next step is to call TNV and ask them 😑
@turnitdowntyler3 жыл бұрын
@@thesickening0169 the team at TNVC will definitely provided a better explanation lol. But essentially unfilmed allows more light transmission, which provides better clarity and less scintillation in darker environments. It was said that unfilmed is less durable than filmed but that hasn’t proven to be the case. Unfilmed is the cream of the crop when it comes to tubes. You get better overall specs with unfilmed. But thin filmed is nothing to complain about.

Honest question: Is night vision technology behind the curve due to the niche market behind it? There seems to be a lot of trade offs, even on the highest-end of the market for NVGs. Are we likely to see a new technology come out anytime soon that might leap the industry forward by a large margin similarly to how no one disagrees that MAWL is superior? There always seems to be a downside (ignoring price). As someone looking to get my first setup, I'm fairly disappointed by the process, especially the randomness of the quality you're buying. "Buy it and hope" seems like a shitty way to do things for that much money.
@Rolley1894 жыл бұрын
The manufacturing process of the tube is like reading a medieval alchemy book. There are some seriously complex materials and process's involved in just assembling them. This drives cost way up. As far as new tech, digital night cameras like the Sionyx Aurora are about the only thing at the moment. The problem with these is "input lag". They are, essentially, a computer that you are strapping to your head. They record in color but you are living life at 1080p and 60hz. I would say give it another 5 years before it really catches up. If you look at smart phone tech the cameras/displays they have now are extremely capable for something of that size and at that price. Samsung 20 Ultra can record 8k and has a 120hz screen on a $1400 smart phone . If someone can put those specs into a pvs14-ish housing, cut the input lag down, and amp up the refresh rate (hertz) I think you may have something that will be very competitive to dual white phos tubes for maybe a third the price. The tech is there someone just needs to do it. This is just my prediction.

@Smeeg Doodle Back in 2011 ITT became ITT/Exelis. Then in 2015 Harris acquired Exelis, which naturally included ITT as part of that acquisition & merging. Not too long afterwards in 2019 L3 decided it wanted to buy and perform an equal merge with Harris, so L3 & Harris performed an all-stock "merger of equals" becoming L3-Harris. Elbit Systems of America, the American division of the Israeli Elbit Systems, agreed to purchase Harris's night vision product line for $350 million, contingent on the completion of the merger with L3. That purchase closed in September 2019, and Harris Night Vision (ITT) was subsequently renamed Elbit Systems of America - Night Vision. So in summary; right now the two US manufacturers of NVD's are L3 and Elbit... Throughout the years and many business mergers ITT has been a leading trusted supplier of night vision equipment to the U.S. Military and allied nations. They won 100% of the U.S. Army OMNIBUS VI contract for aviation systems and 60% of the OMNI VI ground-systems contract, though I'm not sure what chunk they have of the newer OMNI VIII contract. Now to start wrapping this up, seeing as Elbit took ownership of Harris Night Vision (ITT/Exelis) in late 2019, when you buy Elbit you are essentially just buying a rebranded ITT/Exelis/Harris Night Vision Device. This is a long round about way of saying that you shouldn't have any concerns or worries about picking an Elbit tube if it has the spec you require or desire. I'd suggest reading this if you need a primer on NVG specs: www.nite-walker.com/post/2019/11/21/specs-for-dummies-101 ** disclaimer: I have NO ties of any kind to the companies or websites mentioned in my comment **

Video sucks. Don't start talking budget. Don't tell us to choose a housing. We don't know anything about housing choices. Start with the basics. 1. How do you want to use it? Weapon mount, hand held, helmet mount? 2. Infrared? or white or green? Explain the differences and why one over the other. Then explain the hybrids 3. Quality vs cost. 4. Power sources. 5. Expansion options. Last, show us a complete entry level for $2k and a complete $4k unit and explain the difference.
