How to Calculate Container Counts for the 21 Day Fix

Are you finding it difficult to calculate containers on the 21 Day Fix? Do you need some help learning how to use 21 Day Fix containers? This video walks you through how to count containers for any 21 Day Fix recipe.
Mixed recipes using multiple ingredients can be confusing to count containers accurately. This video simplifies the process and shows you how to count containers using one of my favorite recipes as an example!
I walk you through accurately measuring and counting containers for mixed recipes on the 21 Day Fix. This method applies to any bracket on the Fix, and any recipe-but it’s most helpful for those mixed recipes like goulash, soups and chili.
The process:
1. Add up all of the containers for the entire recipe. Once you know the totals for each container color, you'll be dividing that up.
2. Divide the containers by the number of servings per recipe.
For example (this is a different example than the above video) if your entire recipe has four green containers in it, and four servings, you have one green container per serving.
If your entire recipe has four green containers and six servings (4 divided by 6), you have 2/3 green containers per serving.

Thanks Becca you did this wonderfully and made it look so easy! But you've mastered this! I'm a visual person and love this! Question... I was told by a friend that lost a lot of weight doing this program that you measure like 1/4 c dry whatever , let's say Steel cut oats to pan and add 2/3 c water and cook and that was considered what the dry ingredients was meaning that's 1/4 cup yellow carbs and you eat that as 1 serving of 1/4 c.?? I'd love to hear your input. TIA

Actually for the yellow container autumn explains that you're suppose to measure it cooked... its suppose to be 1/2 cup cooked pasta... so actually it's 1/4 dry...

Thanks! This recipe uses 2 yellow containers of dry pasta which I account for as 6 containers of yellow cooked pasta later in the video. Elbow pasta triples in size-different types of pasta "grow" differently when you cook them. I did the math backwards, if that makes sense. I knew that I wanted 3 cups of cooked pasta in the recipe, so I started with 1 cup of uncooked :)

@@BeccaLudlum ooh okay lol gotcha, thanks for this video because its so frustrating I wanted to change some ingridents in fixate like the turkey chilli... like if i use ground beef instead is that okay? would that account for a blue container because the higher fat?

@@Lily-wn2qq Nope, lean ground beef and turkey are both on the food list! No need to add anything but a red there. Sometimes if I can't find lean beef, i'll add a teaspoon to account for the extra fat. I'm so glad this video is helpful-it's so confusing, right?! It's taken me years to learn how to do it! I'm always happy to answer questions you have :)

With your final serving bowl, how many of those will you you eat a day? And what if you decide to also have the simple grilled chicken, veggies and potato meal that same day. How will you know how many containers of each food group you had that day? Also, does the meat have to be measured raw or cooked?

Love this video!! I am slowly working on "fixing" some of my old recipes and making container counts for them. Takes a little extra time, but worth it once you've done it. I have a question though. I made chili the other night and forgot to measure out the beans that went into it. Would it work to use that graphic that Stephanie put together that says 1 carb = 90-130 calories/15-30 carbs? Or would it be better to just measure out next time with my actual containers?

What about a make your own recipe? How do we know how many servings there is to divide the container?

That’s the best part - it’s up to you! How many servings do you want? I usually pick a number, calculate the containers, then if they’re too high or low I adjust :)

I'm still confused 😭 why did you put 3 of the red cups for the one pound of meat? Does it total one pound? Is what you're doing is getting a regular recipe online, seeing the measurement Intels and then breaking it down to fit into the portion cup sizes ?

One pound of meat typically is about three red containers, yes. I always recommend measuring for yourself, but in a pinch this is the ratio that works for me. I have created hundreds of Fixed recipes and provided container counts for my readers, but this video is to help with a few things: 1. If you have a family recipe that is made with ingredients from the food list, it will teach you how to count it yourself for the Fix. 2. If you find a recipe online that is from a website that’s not familiar to you, but has fix containers calculated, I always recommend checking the ingredients against the food and then measuring a recipe or two for yourself to make sure that recipe creator is a trustworthy source. 3. If you find a new recipe online made from ingredients on the food list, but doesn’t have containers calculated, you can calculate the containers yourself :) :)

@@BeccaLudlum @Becca Ludlum ok. On point number 1: What food list are you referring to? What do you mean by counting it for the fix? On point number 2: Is the "fix containers calculated" you're describing, meaning the measurements that a website uses using the portion cups to measure ingredients or no?

So, I was thinking of ordering like 6 sets of containers so I can always use them for cooking and eating... and i thought I was crazy, but you have multiple containers.

So many people do that! I’d definitely recommend getting them from Amazon if you do that, because they can get expensive! I have a lot, though, because I order them from Amazon to test if the sizes are correct before recommending them to my readers :)

How do you figure out how many servings a meal has? Why is it important to know how many servings

Are you following the 21 day fix? If not, servings isn’t important. To figure it out, measure what your recipe yields and divide that into equal serving sizes of your choice.

@@BeccaLudlum thank you, I just started about 5 days ago im feeling the difference but I've lost about 50 pounds before and need more weight to lose. But I can't lose the rest I came to a haul but I heard about these containers im hoping this helps. I've already noticed a difference with me eating to much grains, beans etc the starchy /carb foods. I'm eating less and I'm also eating smaller more frequent meals so that should help boost my Metabolism because I do workout. Thank you for your help
