Such a kind and considerate suggestion for seniors to dehydrate. It is more safe and less overwhelming and one can take out only what is needed rather than opening a full jar of something which may take a while to use up.

People at my Husband's work calls him "Charles Ingalls" because he brings his lunch in jars. He loves it! Food tastes good in jars! I save all my glass jars and use some of them in canning pickles or relish. It seals great. One day, you won't see glass jars anymore that you buy food in. They are using so much plastic. Love the use of jars. Great video, Tessie!😊

Last year my son sold his rental condo. The people left 2 cases of brand new pint canning jars. My son gave me one case and he took the other. I was so excited. It amazes me what jars people throw away. I keep all of my glass jars. Also when I first got married, 48 years ago, I took a glass Aunt Jemina syrup jar and used dripping candles in different colors to cover it. I still have that jar. Have a great day and save those jars.

Tessie great tip on using those Starbucks bottles that is great to store syrup in and good tip on freezing the ones that didn't seal. I seam to recall that video you did on that a while ago. What a great idea Tessie you come up with the best ideas I've yet to see anywhere else. Not many video's on canning with jars as much as you do. Your a true pioneer in this field. So happy you were able to pressure can using my jelly jars and I have many more of them as well as other types of jars. I've saved so many of them. I use them for storage of lots of things. Some I have even hung from the ceiling, screwing in the tops to the beam in the basement and then screwing the glass jar. My grandmother had those jars hanging from the beams in her basement filled with all kinds of things. I wanted to duplicate that. I look forward to your video's on dehydrating and pressure canning that is something I want to get into doing more of. That's so nice of Ellen Fisher to teach you that method of vacuum sealing I'm going to check out that vacuum sealer looks to be very easy to use and I want to start sealing up in jars." Tightwad Tess " Oh my I love it gave me a laugh. I enjoyed this video today. Love you my sister:) Prayers and blessing to you and Ken:)

I drive my mother crazy by keeping tons of jars. I keep them for craft projects and things. But now I can make a batch of my pear syrup and my blueberry syrup and your vanilla syrup. It would be great to have it on hand a d more have to make it each time. Tessie, I grew up helping my grandmother can. My mother doesn't can. Neither of us are God are growing a garden. My best friend grows a beautiful garden and so I buy extra seedlings for her to plant and she grows the fresh veggies for me. My mother and I both agree we miss my Grammie and Papa and their beautiful veggie gardens and the beautiful canned veggies we would have all year long. Great video. Canning isnt eccentric. Nice vid.Tessie. Reusing and repurposing anything is a good thing. I too save jars. Just love them. If I have a small amount of sauce leftover I put it in a jar and freeze it. Just leave an inch or so of room and don't freeze to long to avoid freezer burn. I'll be making some orange marmalade soon and will give the upside down seal method a try. There are so many kind great tips here. People from all walks of life can share and help each other in so many ways. Being from England...yes, this is our traditional way of jam making and bottling. We reuse jam jars and bottles. (Replacement lids are pennies if really wonky.) "Canning" here is rare and very expensive. Regardless of the US strict Rules Of Canning, we potter along Tessie style. Some oldies even put cellophane lids fixed with rubber bands on jam. So nice to see some common sense in frugal preserving.

If you can your own you know what you are eating. Dehydrating is wonderful because you can pack lots of food in a small space, it's light and needs no refrigeration because its dry. You can seal the container also with an oxygen absorber if it doesn't fit in a canister or the attachment for jars dont work. Just think the envelopes of mashed potatoes in the store are dehydrated.

I’ve been canning with antique glass lids (not the bail jars - but I’ll do those soon). These glass lids use rubber rings no longer made (they’re an odd size) so I had to buy antique rubber rings. The amazing thing is the rubber rings weren’t cracking & they still flexed. I soaked them in mineral oil & now they’re like new. I was so excited the first time I canned with them. I never knew they (Ball, Atlas, Presto) made glass lids - every bit as snazzy as Weck! I had to find directions on what to do in the vintage Ball Blue Books. - you would like those books. I’m watching this video to give me inspiration to can with my Classico spaghetti sauce jars (& lids). I’ve read that the Classico jars are true mason jars, according to Classico.

Hi Tessie! ☺ Another great video!! Best part, I get to see your vibrant, smiling, Beautiful face! Whose morning that wouldn't make??!!! 😘 I do have some jars that I have saved from grocery store products. I'm just careful that the tops are totally intact, meaning; I am guilty of banging the sides or top when the lid doesn't come off easily. 😄😄 I would guess that those jar lids would not make great candidates for being resealed. 😞That is so nice your friend gave those jars to you! ☺ Another wet morning here in my area. The trees, gardens & grass are loving it. The grass can not get any greener, it is such a deep greenish/blue; BREATHTAKING!! Have a Wonderful Day, all day long. Happy canning!! Happy Videoing!! ☺☺😎😎

I do that with my dry goods as well I absolutely love sealing them over and over. Today I made a yeast bread with a bottle of yeast that I opened .....it has to be probably two or three years ago. I always proof my yeast and it is always very active but I think that's because I've resealed the jar every single time! I bought a jar of yeast online and I did not realize how much yeast came in this jar and the bread recipe I use uses so much less yeast then many traditional recipes so this jar has lasted me literally years. Proper storage of food preserves its freshness which is way more economical Than People realize

I'm sorry people give you a hard time. It comes down to like you said common sense.... unfortunately a lot of people don't have any. I'm going to try this method with a few jars I have just like yours in the video I cant wait to see if it works for me. If not I'll simply freeze them like I normally do 😊

I love doing things old fashioned and i been teaching my self to dry can and dehydrate for about a year now we have a pressure canner I’m still intimidated but it lol, and for Christmas we got a insta pot, I looked at hubby and said “well what do we need that for?” Lol I enjoy slow cooking all day

Tessie your video is so informative and believe me you have taken the fear out of canning food for me. I was always so timid incase I spoiled the food or made us ill. Thank you for simplifying the process where you feel so comfortable doing it. One method of preserving I am familiar too is canning using "salt." Packing onions and salt in a jar is so easy. No electricity required. It is a very old maritime way of preserving food in the old days. Where I live the older women still use this method. People are afraid they intake too much salt but not really a concern as you wash off the salt before use and you do not have to add anymore salt at the dinner table. Great in soups and casseroles. .. I wash the larger pieces off and eat them just as they are. I just love onions. "Happy Canning! :) Love & Hugs sent your way!

I use those jars with the checked red and white lids, they work great.I recently made sweet orange jam and green tomato relish and red tomato relish. As strawberries are in season here in Australia I may make some more jam with them as its my husbands favourite.I really like the red/white checked lids on the jars as they look vintage and country.I sometimes sell preserves and baking and homemade crafts at a local farmers market.I love the social side of the market as well as a small income.Well Tessie until next time, take care, god bless you.

Good Morning Tessie and friends, I want to thank each and everyone of you for all the Birthday wish's and kind words. All the love and kindness I received yesterday was over whelming it really touched my heart and I am humbled. This truly is an amazing community so many reaching out to let me know how much I am loved and adored on my special day brought tears of joy to me. Each one of you has touched my heart in so many ways I cannot even begin to express my gratitude. Never have I had so much love from so many. And seeing everyone coming together sharing each others experience's and ideas and great advice just warms my heart. I love you all. Thank you for being my friend. Thank you Jumpoff for your wonderful Birthday Card it means a lot to me and for your wonderful message's and being such a great friend and brother to me.Thank you sweet Tessie for always thinking of me and being a special friend and sister to me I feel as I have know you for ever. This is a truly great community " Where Friends Are Made " really hold true. I am truly blessed to have you all in my life. Today is a rainy day I was blessed to have a nice sunny day and I was out side for much of it getting the recyclables and trash ready for todays pick up. I had a special Birthday dinner, Meat lasagna and apple crisp pie for dessert topped with rum raisin ice cream. Mom presented me with a nice Birthday card and in it was 100 dollars for me to spend it on what ever I wanted or needed. I will use that 100 dollars wisely it will go a long way. Now as an update on my mom's new pc she still does not have it yet. The staples tech called and said that he was still having trouble installing a virus shield as it was downloading from a site. So today we will go back and see if it is done. Never had this kind of problem before. Oh well we will see today. What are your plans for the day. Have a wonderful Tuesday be blessed :) Keep smiling :)
