Loved this video!!! Now I am not terrified of one of mine laying any eggs. I did get a surprise when my two MALE mollys started shooting out little babies. I nearly tore the house down trying to get that blue ram, who was in time out in the community tank, outta there!! It was so much fun and now I know what I need to do. Thank you so much

I strain my brine shrimp through a cheap little round strainer so as not to add salt to the aquariums. I raise and feed shrimp daily. I hold the strainer over a cup and squirt the turkey baster over that and use the strained shrimp immediately. Some tiny ones get through the fine strainer anyway, so I pour the cup back into the original hatchery through the strainer and use those shrimp too. My best GBR success brood was when I let the parents raise the fry themselves in a dark tank. Both parents did a great job. I finally netted the fry when they were quite old and showing the ram shape.

Informative vid! Hatching eggs, and rearing the fry in the plastic buckets is an interesting idea....seems to save a lot of space and keeps rearing and maintenance fairly centralized. Thanks for explaining your baby brine shrimp hatching process. When do you start weaning the fry off brine shrimp to dried foods? ANd how do you go about it? Might be a good topic for a future vid. Could you use the same water from the tank in the small bowl for the fry or should you use different water. Also what is the best way to keep the bowl the same temperature without a heated room
@pittsburghpets37595 жыл бұрын
Depends how clean the tank is, its best to just use new treated water. Can heat a 5-10 gallon tank full of water and then float or sink a jar/bowl in the tank. Allowing the warm water to surround it

Been raising some ram fry using containers like you do bit have been having a fair bit of die off within the first few days after hatching. Any idea where I am going wrong? Keeping airstone high in the water line and doing a water change in there daily. They are dying before free swimming stage. Any ideas?

make sure air is not too high and the fry don't get pushed around, no water changes or food until free swimming

Thank you for sharing 👍 I'm a bit confused with the hatching of bbs. When do you setup the bbs for 1st and 2nd batches? Also if u harvest in the morning do you keep bubbling the bbs eggs and feed from that same bottle at night? Also when u put the gbr eggs with pot into white bowl you add methylene blue. Do you change water before eggs hatch or leave them until they hatch? When all eggs are hatched what do you do next? When do you start 1st feeding to newborn fry? Could you do a video of next step from eggs hatching in bowl?
@pittsburghpets37596 жыл бұрын
I use a container a day of bbs, so yes I use the same one at night. I don't do water changes until I start feeding. first feeding when fry free swim

@@pittsburghpets3759 Thank you for reply When do you setup bbs eggs to hatch for 1st and 2nd hatchery?
@jamiem53645 жыл бұрын
@@CrowntailHalfmoon Some people really need to learn how to listen! He uses one batch of brine shrimp morning and night then after the night feed he cleans that bottle and puts new eggs in, the next day he feeds the other batch of bbs while the newer one is hatching then repeat daily. Its not rocket science!

Excellent video and channel! thanks for all the info! A couple of questions if you don't mind; - How often are you changing the water in the containers? and how much approx 50% changes? - When you pull the eggs and add the meth blue 3 drops; How long until you do the first water change? Will you re-add the meth blue or do your water changes eventually remove it? - What's the temp of your fish room? I assume that's heating these containers? For a home aquarist would a desk lamp be fine over the top? Or should I get heating pads for under the container? Cheers!
