My rabbit is nearly 10 years old (born on 7th July 2008) and has none of these characteristics. That makes me so happy right now, because every day I fear the day, when it is over. Happily she is so activ, loves to hop around and be rebellious at night. (: ♥

My bunny is an 11 year old "lady" and doing great! We did have to go through some surgeries throughout the years, like neutering, which she did at 9 years of age because I hadn't found a vet with specialty in bunnies when she was younger, and normal vets never informed us, until she already had developed cancer in the uterus. After that she had a surgery about her digestive system, caused by a complication from the neutering. She also had an absess in her mouth, which is very common in bunnies. That's all... Now we are seeing a great vet that has specialty in bunnies and other exotic animals and her instructions are a blessing!

So sad that this vid just came out a few days ago as I just lost mine due to old age (he was 10 and was with me since 6 weeks old) not only did he lose his sight but also had splay legs due to arthritis. But the main problem was that an X-ray showed how his lungs were filled and he struggled to breathe so we decided to let him pass in his sleep while under anaesthetics. Having watched this I know I could of done more. Your bunnies are lucky :) I’ll keep following your buns and your videos, very useful content.

Last year I adopted a rabbit and we could only estimate her age I always just assumed she was 2 when she was abandoned because people are more likely to abandon a young adult (just my experience in rescue that they are more often abandoned after the cute baby stage). But she does identify with a senior according to the points in your video. She prefers to just chill but gets excited when food comes around. Maybe I should start preparing for senior care.

Haley do you know if larger rabbits age proportionally faster than smaller ones like in dogs? (i.e. can a Flemish or Continental Giant live as long as say a Netherland Dwarf?)

Neat trick I learned with my rabbit who is slowly getting older is to treat his sore hocks with Bepanthen. It's ointment used to help with irritated skin and wound healing. It moisturises and nourishes the skin. It has lots of beneficial factors on it. It is not toxic as far as I know but I would keep a watch out on your rabbit till the skin absorbs it so they don't lick it of. I've been treating my rabbit with it twice a day and his hocks are not as inflamed, dry and swollen as they used to be. Use with soft flooring. I've used on myself to treat sunburns and open wounds as well as while they are healing. It has a cooling and soothing effect that helps little with the pain. This cream does wonders.
@gayking69536 жыл бұрын
My boy has started to show signs of aging. He sleeps a lot and has stiff feet along with sore hocks. Sometimes when I hold him and grab one of his paws I can feel it crack slightly like it was really stiffed in one position. I don't think he is painful in his feet yet, not counting his hocks. He is just an old man at age five, he just turned. Still energetic, healthy, "fat" and full of life. Just needs little bit loving care.

Thank you for this vid, I hardly find opinions how to treat a senior bunny well especially how to equip his "living room" he's living in my living room, for pee and poop he normally jumps into his cage (open 24/7) but for a few days, he pees at the mats outside the cage. I added a bridge on his cage but he stopped use it since he has problems with his hind leg due to a light E.Cinuculi flash (so the vet said, special treatment) should I equip his area completely new? Trhowing away the cage and buy a litterbox especially for seniors? Thank you for helping : D

We have a rabbit (my neighbour actually) who are only 5 years but seems have gotten old. She has issues with her breathing sometimes, the vet she took her to says she wont live very long but she is OK right now. She is much more clumsy and has gained weight,is not as active as she used to be, etc. she has sore hooks and today when I pointed that out my neighbour put cream on her hooks. :) Ithink this rabbit got old to qick, but its probably because of the bad air here in town. :( to much smog? she is a standard rex, she was 5 yrs in april this year.

Because I know rabbits prefer to be in pairs and I hated seeing her alone I then adopted a mini lop for her to bond with. He's getting neutered on Tuesday and when he's recovered I obviously want to start bonding them. They've been in cages next to each other for around 3 weeks now. Could you give me some advice on bonding? I've never done it before. Thanks x

This makes me wonder if my rabbit I got is actually a senior. I bought him from a pet store as he was my first ever rabbit (I know, pet stores are bad, every rabbit after him has been adopted) - and he was fully grown when I got him. I was TOLD he was 8 months old, but he seems to be much slower than my other bunny. He doesn't seem ill per say, but I do question if he is older than the 3 years I estimated him to be based on when I got him and the age I was told.

@Trainingthroughlife6 жыл бұрын
Sadly there isn’t a way to tell how old a rabbit is after they are full grown. Some rabbits get white hairs fairly young like Ebony did. Other rabbits just naturally have white hairs in their coat so I wouldn’t base it just off of that. Also, rabbits over the age of 3 tend to sleep a lot more than young bunnies too. I would say your bunny is most likely not a senior if those are the only signs you are seeing

Hi Haley! Ummm I have a question. Our rabbit, Chewit, we were fostering him for a friend but then they gave us to him to adopt if we wished. We said yes so we now have a rabbit. Chewit it roughly about just under the age of 2. He was never neutered, so, we thought that was our first thing we should do. Last week on Monday, we took him to the vets to get his first injection. We heard that it usually takes a few days for them to be feeling normal again, happy and content. We are getting his second injection next week I think. We go on holiday in 2 weeks so we thought that we wouldn’t get him neutered until we came back. Do you have any tips for keeping your rabbit happy after neutering? Thanks :)

Hi! My rabbit is not a senior, but I do have a big concern. She is a Mini Satin breed, so she is much smaller than most rabbit breeds. I don't know what veggie diet I should give her. Every time I slowly put her on to a diet of maybe 3 leaves of lettuce, she gets runny poo. I am currently not giving her any veggies, and trying to find out what her perfect diet is. Do you have any tips? I am so worried. :(
@Trainingthroughlife6 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you are offering to much veggies at once. First make sure your bunny has been eating unlimited grass hay for 2 weeks before you offer veggies. After that, start with a small amount. Like 1/2 a piece of lettuce or one sprig of cilantro or something. Then wait 24 hours. If there is still no runny poop, give another 1/2 piece the next day. If there is runny poop, take away veggies for a few days and try again later with either a smaller amount or a different type of veggie. Start very small and slowly increase the amounts only after a few days of no runny poop. 3 pieces of lettuce right away is to much change for their guts

How do you know if your bunny has arthritis?
@Trainingthroughlife6 жыл бұрын
You can’t know for sure unless you have a x-ray or CT scan done by a vet. However most vets go by symptoms. For example with my bunnies, I noticed them losing control of a limb, acting very stiff upon standing, or falling over when grooming. I then asked my vet and she confirmed they had arthritis. We didn’t get X-rays unless there was a need to (like when Lulu stopped using her leg, we got X-rays to make sure nothing was broken)
