our rabbit likes to run behind the couch because it is a very small area. so, we will set up a board or some other barrier so he can't get behind there. it is also pretty hidden and is extremely convenient. 😀

Last year my rabbit unfortunately passed away and I have always felt guilt that I could've been a better owner. Which therefor lead me to promising her and myself that if I ever was able to get another rabbit I would give them all the love and freedom they deserve. Fast forward to now and I currently have the ability to get another companion(s) and am currently trying to fulfill that promise by before getting them getting everything bunny proofed and reading/watching many things on how to properly care for them like they deserve, and I just would like to thank you for helping people like me become the best bunny owners we can. :)

😪 Hi. I’m so sorry you lost your sweet bunny. Those furry babies sure do leave a big hole when they pass...I know exactly how you feel as I still grieve for all the fur babies I’ve lost. 💔 But, I’m sensing that you’ll be ready for a new friend soon, but till you’re 100% sure you’re ready, may I suggest visiting local animal shelters just to give you a few hours here & there to hold bunnies that are patiently waiting for a new forever home. Most people don’t realize that bunnies are even in animal shelters, but my sweet Rooney is an adopted bun & he’s just awesome! 🥰. Give it a try...who knows...maybe there’s a bunny just waiting for you to fall in love with them. Adopting a bunny actually saves 2 bunnies...the one that’s adopted & the one that will now be able to find a temporary home at the shelter because there’s room for him. Good luck!🍀. ❤️🐰

I'm literally gonna beg my parents to let me use these proofing ideas, I'm still trying to convince them to make my rabbit a free roaming rabbit though they do let me let her out at least every 5 times a week, I feel horrible that my rabbit has to go through all these things but I do sneak her out every time I have to go give her food, cuddle with her, play with her, talk to her about my day, or anything else. It's that our house is rented and the owners don't really like pets so that's one of the reasons my parent won't let me have Nefely/my rabbit be a free roaming rabbit

I LOVE your videos! Thanks for educating folks!! Since I have multiple bunnies in the house, we use a large under-the-bed style container for a litter box. It is probably 4 ft x 2 ft. We put 3-4 inches of wood shavings in the bottom and cover it with 6 inches of hay. They LOVE to play and romp in it and the shaving are a natural deodorizer, and are urine absorbent! We empty the pan into the compost bin, wash it, dry it, and start again! They don't go anywhere else! Thank you so much for promoting fine rabbit care!

1. A big suitcase or two to block off rooms if baby gates aren't viable. Easy to move or remove. 2. For carpet chewers, problematic areas can also be covered with grass or hemp mats. Both are safe for bunnies. 3. This one won't work for all bunnies, but leave lots of cardboard boxes lying around. No ink/tape/staples of course. They make great chew toys! Great video, Lorelei. Thank you for all you do for the rabbit community!

Great video! Unfortunately all 4 of our bunnies would make quick work of that shipping tape, they’d pee on the carpets and on the corner tiles! They would eat the baskets and cords, knock the plant stands over and chew through any sofa covers, haha.. We have bought jute rugs for them now and then, they love to chew those, and if you get the ones with no backing, they are safe.
@Bruh-ii4lf4 жыл бұрын
the corner guards would do you wonders, i would try putting more litter boxes in areas they pee in instead of carpets or tiles it helps them understand they pee in the box worked for mine :), at tj max they have tons of boxes made from untreated wood if they chew those corner guards again, my bunnies chewed through the couch guards and peed on them they eventually stopped peeing on the sofa and beds when i put more litter boxes around they got the memo, and for the chewing of the couch guard i trained them by saying no *including their names* when they listened i gave a treat to praise them it took time but they got it and don't anymore but ofc just because it worked for mine doesn't mean it's guaranteed to work for yours

I have only 2 (male, neutered) and we had similar problem (after the neutering). I used the potty training trick (first in little pen, then bigger penned area, then one room, then plus another). And the biggest cat litter tray ever (with hay inside)! As you also have more buns, more huge trays could save a lot of nerves & cleaning time :) I believe your sweat potatoes are trying to say: 'it's mine, not my bun-siblings' '. I wish you 5 the best!

Hi Lorelei! My boyfriend and I have who bunnies how live in an indoor self-build-pen, to which the door is open most of the time, and we are currently expanding the free roaming time to eventually free roam them altogether. We’ve been bunny proofing our place for quite a while now, and we have one tip we’d like to share, which we didn’t find online so far - it concerns blocking off areas. Since baby gates were not an option for us to block off areas (the grids are too wide, they are pretty expensive here and we felt that they don’t look so nice either), I came across a „dog blind“, which is like the blinds for your windows, you just attach it to your door frame. This was, however, rather expensive and needed drilling. But it inspired me - so I went to IKEA and bought some paper blinds - „Schottis“ to be exact, which was 2 or 3 Euros. And his works absolutey great! It is designed to be cut to the size you need, so you just cut it to the height and length you need. You stick one side to the door frame or your wall (the blinds come with tape) and on the other side, you apply a hook-and-look tape (which also comes with the blind), so you cab open and close it as you please. In one spot, we attached hook-and-loop fasteners on both sides, so we can put the whole thing away if we want. We also applied a narrow and flat kind of wooden pole to the side you open, to get a better grip. If you like, I can send you some pictures as well. I just love this solution so much, because I feel like it looks much better than baby gates (and you can choose different colours too), it is just SUCH a cheap solution, and it works so great for us. Since I have never read anything about this solution on the internet, I thought I might share it here. :) I really love your channel and your videos gave us lots of inspirations so far. So thank you! Greeting to you and Lennon from Germany Nina

I easily get headaches from strong scents, so in that case i probably wouldnt be able to use it. I also feel like it could leave stains etc. And over all would not be such an good idea to use on sheets.

My rabbit is much more active at night. During the day he doesn't get into much trouble, but night time he likes to destroy lol. So I've found the best thing to do is give him lots of toys at night. He loves to tear up boxes, dig, and anything that makes a lot of noise (rattles, hard plastic that he can throw against the ground). Maybe giving him something he can chew on at night might help him not chew on your blankets. Worked for me! Good luck! :)

I'm kinda happy I'm not the only one with this problem. I never saw anyone comment about it ;o; I haven't found anything that helps, except putting a playpen around the bed.. it's pretty uncomfortable to get in and out though. So if anyone has a better idea, that'd be great..

A lot of toys are essential; however, although I have special toys for my bun toilet paper rolls (with tp still on, unrolling it and shredding it everywhere) are their favorite 😋 I get the big dense commercial rolls as toys now... Lasts a while unlike regular rolls. As long as a toy is safe sometimes you have to let your bunny tell you what they like instead of insisting on toys that you think they should like... For paper (really any) toys be careful that your bun is shredding it and not eating a significant amount, and that the paper doesn't have any toxic dyes or scents. Having plenty of hay usually prevents paper eating but it's no guarantee so better safe than sorry!! I know other people use phonebooks and things that provide a similar experience so I'd recommend those too if you have easy access to them :)

I have applied your tips that fit our needs. These tips not just protect from my rabbit, but my ferret and even my cat. The main tip being the flexible cover for my USB cables and cords on my CPAP and SoClean machines. I also like the “garden hose” idea. Thank you, and blessings for you and Lennon. Also, FYI, I placed an order and received very good service and great quality Hay, Timothy Hay Cubes, bedding, stainless steel MidWest Snap y food and water bowls from one of your links...SPS. My Bugs Bunny is one happy bunny with the Hay Sampler and he is learning to like healthy treats just for him. Thank you, again.

I was in the same situation because my parents didn't like rabbits. They said rabbits ate too much and were so messy (from their experience in the past). So, I had guinea pigs instead. I spent time with guinea pigs, and I never thought that I would have a bunny someday because my parents warned me not to get a bunny every time I mention how cute they were. My depression and anxiety got too bad a few months ago, so I decided to bring home a bunny. I thought my parents would get mad about that, but they didn't. Luckily, my two 3-year-old female guinea pigs adopted and took care of the little bunny so well, so I didn't have to worry about her much. She learned everything from my well-trained guinea pigs. My parents love her so much now.

Question... do rabbits have a particular weight they should stay at.. or does it depend? I would love to see a video on that.
@junebug33545 жыл бұрын
I've read that they should have a thick layer of fat over their body but you should still be able to feel the tips of their spine and rib-cage without a struggle. Anything less than that is under weight, anything over can lead to being obese.
@demongirl67005 жыл бұрын
It depends on their breed
@Kirsten_Jones5 жыл бұрын
Depends on their breed. I have a Holland lop bunny who is full grown and healthy and she's only 3 pounds. Holland lops are supposed to be 4-7 lbs Full grown but she's happy and healthy (:
@firelilysparkles5 жыл бұрын
In general, look for a gentle taper from the hips to waist, but no visible jutting bones. When you pet the bunny, you should be able to lightly feel their skeleton, similar to how you can still feel an object covered by a thick blanket. Loose skin or fat around the chin is normal on adult female rabbits (it's their dewlap) and the occasional male rabbit as well. If they are able to happily jump around and seem to have a good amount of energy, they are probably fine. Your vet should be able to give you more specifics for the breed of your rabbit :)
@mansar25205 жыл бұрын

Cassie K I give my bunnies paper towel and toilet paper rolls, coardboard boxes for hiding and they chew them (it isn't dangerous) I give them these wooden sticks at the pet store which they love. These fake carrot toys, eventually they bite the orange strings off, so I tie those to the walls of their pen which they bite. You also need to give them a toy which will carve their teeth down, otherwise they will grow too long, hay also files them down

@ShowMeYourHaven15 жыл бұрын
Put the play pen around your bed so she can't get to it. Also spay her.
@funstuffwithjordanuniverse51194 жыл бұрын
Be sure to give her supervised play times outside of the play pen. Also, it can take a really long time to develop a trusting relationship, so don't give up! And maybe figure out what situations lead to biting. It sounds like she's being territorial, so if she's not already, definitely spay her if you can. Also, I can kind of relate because there was a while where I was disappointed because my bunny is not very cuddly like I expected. I wondered if I made a mistake. Over time, we developed a bond, and now I fall more in love with him every day. He's sweet, shy, and inquisitive, and eventually he trusted me enough to actively seek pets. He's now my emotional support animal, and he's gonna be living in my college dorm starting this weekend! :) (I just realized your comment is a year old, so I hope everything worked/is working out)

We got our first ever bunny almost 2 years ago. We got him as a rescue, and I think I am now a bunny person forever. We have been learning as we go, and for the first month or so we kept him in a cage about 4' x 4' with an open door two story hutch inside. Shortly after that, we let him out of the cage all day but he only had access to my office. That's where I learned what he will chew and what he won't. Yes, we learned the hard way. Then we opened up his space to our living room. We used the square metal pieces that are clipped together, and basically we put those around the furniture, so Oswald could still roam but the furniture was safe. We're opening up one room at a time, using the same kind of protection for the furniture. I have always worried about what materials are safe for him if he chews, and from this video, I can see that packing tape is safe if he does chew? Any unfinished wood is safe? And fabric is safe? This is a long story for a bottom line question... Is there anything that is hazardous if he chews (other than cables and wires - that goes without saying). Thanks

It’s definitely better to let them free roam all the time, especially because if you bunny proof, they’ll be just as safe when you’re not home as when you’re home. Obviously if that’s not possible, though, you should try setting up a play pen for them in the day, so they can have more space and freedom 👍 Good luck!

I have 5... I spend minutes vet care, about $100 a month... with yearly and one time (spay or neutering) expenses add about $400-$1000 to that... but every penny is worth it! I also rescue so expenses can vary some... I currently have 2 needing to get spayed and together will cost about $800 to get fixed. I have one that I wish could get done but at 8 years old and a rehoming take back it's not safe to get him fixed at his age. But I have a 2 year old rescue and a 5 month old rescue (adopted from a fellow rescuer) that both need to get fixed. We are going to be bonding my 4 year old (my first bunny that I hand raised) bunny and my 5 month old bunny and maybe eventually bond my 2 year old bunny with my other 1.5 almost 2 year old bunny (hand rescued) if they will ever get along. I wish I could free roam all 5 bunnies... but these tips will help me bunny proof for run time! Each bunny gets plenty of run time :)

I would recommend the the rabbit chew repellant spray from Lorelei's rabbit hacks video. It's simply Apple cider vinegar, rubbing alcohol, water, and a squeeze of lime juice. I've actually tried this formula out myself, and it works great because i have all wooden furniture! Just spray it onto the bottom of the piece of furniture (where your rabbit could reach) and that's all. 🐰❤

BRUH FELT THIS TOO HARD, I spent literal weeks setting up my room to hide all of my wires and training my rabbit to do her stuff in a very specific part of the room. So many weeks of hard work on both me and the rabbit's part, I told my dad to simply go out and buy some Hay for my bunny to eat and not pellets. This man comes back with a $70 CAGE. This cage doesn't even fit through the door unless I like put it at an awkward angle. That's how big this cage is, I was so upset. Then when he was telling me why he bought the cage instead of the Hay I GAVE HIM MY MONEY TO BUY this man says "The manager lady told me that you should never have a rabbit out of the cage and that bunny proofing doesn't actually work" and I was livid. I told him that this cage is incredibly overpriced and that you literally aren't supposed to have a caged rabbit once they are adults BECAUSE THEY NEED TO MOVE AROUND, they most likely got you to buy that cage because she knew you had no clue what you were doing and convinced you to spend $70 on a cage that is too big and isn't needed. I was then called spoiled and ungrateful, this was like 2 years ago and this still bothers me because I had to rearrange the entire room just to fit this monstrosity. . . like ugh.
